If youare not playing The Enemy Within Campaign, however, you could retain the setting and play it as a one-off, or transpose the location elsewhere within the Old World. in any event, an important aspect to the adventure isthe time of year, with events taking, place during the annual rapeharvest at Przstock (sometime inthe month of Erneze or Harvest BEGINNING THE ADVENTURE Refer to Map 1 1f you have played Death on the Reik. the PCs should be making ‘thelr way ftom Castle von Wittgenstein (in pursuit ofthe Purple Hand ‘and Gotthard von Wittgenstein). Scattering Stefan's belongings by the road he let the horse loose and returned to Prtzstock. ‘Three days later Stefan's saddle and pack were spotted. However, with no further incidents to fuel nthe name of Stefan “Maranaeur was forgpten, at last, that's what Henti-Philippe hoped and thought. And so things might have been save for one person, ‘Stefan's twin brother, Dieter. ‘Acthe time of Stefan’ Dieter Maranaeur was nearing, the end ofa successful wizard's apprenticeship at Middenheim. Yet, as the days of Stefan’ ordeal passed, his brother began to suffer in much the same way Linked by Kinship, Dieter at Bist sured nights but within a week showed signs ofa severe wasting, Gice Sot athe apes wer laeed mo deus ‘and as his condition worsened the physicians feared for his life. ‘Suddenly (ea the moment of Stefan's death), che month ongiliness auisted and Dieter begat wo reve. Dieter is being influenced to ruin Prtzstock and kil Rochereau. ‘The wizards frst move was to scout the local country and find a sale base for himself and his hed rt Schl This is where he got lucky, after a fasion. In a cave well-hidden by vegetation they discovered numerous human and humanoid skal, gz ennant of an ancient bate, ite a once sensed hat te ‘were magical in some way. What Dieter doesn't know is thatthe magical qualities ofthe sku are due to race elements of warpstone present in the cave. The amount snot sufficient to produce Chaos ‘except with igificant exposure, but itis enough to be of interest tothosetradidonally dependent on t- which leads othe final part, ofthe adventure. ‘A small band of Skaven, alerted to the presence of warpstone in the area, have come hunting fort. Having eventually narrowed the Search tothe cave, the Skaven have spied out Dieter and Kurt, and have also seen the flying skal. Their leader, being fairly smart as ‘Skaven go, has decided to bide his time to see just what the skis are capable of and how the Skaven might make use of them, Reasonably enough, the Slaven are uncertain of whether to negate or attack, given thatthe air may be thick with fying skulls of ‘unknown power, ‘The remainder of the adventures set out as flows. Afr seting the nial scene asthe PCs arrive inthe Vilage, theres a section ‘onNPCs in Pritzstock: what they do, who they at, what they know land suggestions on how they wil espond to various PC actions and conversation. The GM should assume that the FCS arrive on Day U, and events are timed ‘Arriving in the village proper (across a well-maintained but rather inadequate ditch, the PCs will be struck by both its prosperity and auietenes, Furthermore, a couple of houses have crude planks naled (Gea ra seve ey "anny ges = geocaly « 7 are “nanny’s fingers’ ‘considered to ward off ev spins). The doors ofthese houses are also inscribed with me runes, but it needs the Rune Lore sal to apprecate that they are indeed meaningless. ‘Travelling further with Krug or general investigation will reveal that all the are attending a meeting outside the house of Henti- Philipe. Once the meeting is concluded Henti-Philippe will be fee to greet the party, and reference should be made to his description in the NPC listing. Recent Events —— ‘Ten days ago a chil, Sel Baldurich, came running into the village seen, In the woods (Sighting 1 on Map Sa but see entry Seelis well-known inthe vilage for his various talltales and this one was put downto imagination, However, some three days later, Isolde Guderian was out fruit when she noticed a skal siting ona branch. Finally, on the morning of the PCs" arrival, Erietta Surhardt was attacked, again while working the vines. Three other workers heard her scream and rushed over to wiere Erietta was last seen. With te grape-harvest due to begin in 2 dag time the vilagers are now worned about thet liveltood: they are frightened to go into the feds, and migrant workers are sure to hear of evens and stay away. Allthe above is common knowledge, but the PC's are tkely to obtain ‘a mote coherent version from Henti-Philippe. Speculation in the village is rife and it willbe recalled how a young wine merchant disappeated a few years ago. In addition, there are various rumours/explanations of recent events: 1) The graves of dead warriors from an ancient battle have been ‘dure by clearing the forest. Local rumour, based on rth has it that a Chaos hoard from the Drakwald Forest was slain over to the south-west. Pethaps some were also slain near Pritzstock? (2) The skulls have been sent as a punishment from the gods for ot making proper sacrifice in respect of the recent excellent harvest. (3) Henti-Philipe is somehow involved in order to buy land cheap ca a eis Dee Hed Wh ng Sap ‘The last rumour isthe blackest and will only be spoken if thi foe eng vay tal ond Reruns wate, ‘The villagers are also angry that the militia has not done anything to stop the skulls and this has created some bad feeling between people. Just what the militia (four farmers and a warrior), are ‘Supposed t0 do nobody savs. but that doesn’t stop then from ‘complaining, PRITZSTOCK: THE INHABITANTS NB: Many ofthe villagers have the skill Vinecufure, This is similar to Brewing but applies only to wines, including knowledge of vine growing and other aspects of wine-making. Rocheteau will ‘open negotiation at 15% but may be bargained to 20%. The party ‘mUSt state how many years they wish to wait and individuals must return atthe appropriate harvest-time to collect their share ofthe ‘agreed sum, For each harvest day lost, Rocheteau's profit falls by 10%, The Cellar ‘Rocheteau’s house is not mapped but searching the cellar wll reveal fairly recent brickwork behind one of the large wine barrels, (there {s only 1' of space between wall and barrel {asked about this, Rocheteau, (who may be wondering what people ‘were doing rooting in the celia since the only entrance is via the Jutchen) will state thatthe alcove was sealed to combat damp. Use ofthe skill Mining will reveal tha the brickwork i less than 5 years ‘old and that there is no sign of damp anywhere in the cellar. Getting into the eealed alcove ie dificult. Lack of space prevents the use ofa sledgehammer.
