VII. CRITICAL RISKS

Retailers of nondurable merchandise face a dual challenge of a slow-growing market and

changes in demographics and consumer buying habits that have spawned structural changes within
the industry. Because of this, smaller clothing stores can struggle against their larger competitors
in a number of ways. Not only can brand awareness be an issue, but larger chains have the pricing
power to offer deep discounts to undercut cash-strapped startups. Twice But Nice: Ukay-ukay
Clothing will adjust our competitive strategies to these new realities and take advantage of new
marketing techniques as electronic retailing, catalog marketing, a smaller store, and improved
customer service. By completing these tasks we can succeed in improving our market position.
Also, making personal connections with customers through loyalty and referral programs is one
way to mitigate this risk, as is stocking unique clothing from local designers.

VIII. HARVEST STRATEGY

Ukay-ukay is a term used both for the act of shopping by digging up piles of used or pre-
loved clothes until one makes a good find. It also refers to retailers of secondhand clothes and
accessories in the Philippines. If we use harvest strategy for this kind of business, it will be a big
step up because you will have chance to have your own clothing line if you invest in clothes
industry.
