The Interrelationship between Education and Social Change
Summary
There is a strong desire for social, economic, and intellectual sector reform. Most
scholars have agreed that education has a significant role in social development, leading to other
changes. Therefore, we can deduce a substantial link between education and social change.
Education as a Means of Changing the World
This implies that social progress is impossible without education and that education precedes
social change. In the social sector, numerous improvements are being undertaken. However, they
are ineffective in practice due to the absence of sufficient education. As a consequence,
education should contribute to the closing of the gap. Higher education is an essential agent for
change, and this is intended to influence people's perspectives and ideas and inspire a desire for
growth in them. Education can contribute to expanding current understanding, and scientific
concepts will be shared amongst people by disseminating existing facts. For instance, many
children from low-income families have developed and obtained a professional, then a job, and
eventually a higher social status than their parents.
Education as a Social Change Tool
Through education, students are allowed to acquire new knowledge, skills, and attitudes.
Through education, several ancient myths and absolute ideals that inhibit development can be
changed with educated viewpoints. Mass poverty and barbarism are caused mainly by illiteracy
and ignorance. As a result, knowledge may be the best way to help people get out of their current
situation.
2
Many schools and colleges founded by community and government bodies (as opposed to
those run by private bodies) do not consciously consider themselves tools of social change, i.e.,
they frequently ignore their function of intentionally promoting social change through their
educational programs and activities. Teachers are not often aware of their role in fostering
societal change through teaching and personal example. Children adopt their teacher's views,
beliefs, and values. Teachers can instill a sense of achievement, drive, sensitivity, quality
expectations of learning and achievement, vocation, and a willingness to work again for unity
and progress.
Every school must have the acquisition of information through topics and the fulfillment
of the country's demands. Through a vibrant educational program, people and teachers should
work together to meet those demands. Unfortunately, only a tiny percentage of schools go above
and above what is expected of them. As a result, the school can scarcely be described as a change
agent in such circumstances.
Education as a Catalyst for Social Transformation
If learning results from societal change, it signifies that the need for education has arisen
due to the change. If the result is a high demand for learning, the education provided should be
linked to the type of societal change experienced. As a result, education may have specific goals.
Awareness education such as discussing, problem-solving, debate, and new thinking should be
fostered from a young age.
Industrialization
3
Trains, cars, jet aircraft, factories for rapid manufacture of standardized items, antibiotics
against sickness, and many more conveniences have all been made possible by industrialization,
scientific breakthroughs, and technology. Farms, fields, and woods have been devastated to
create room for mills and factories, resulting in air pollution, land, and water worldwide. Cities'
climates have been affected by noise and smoke. The higher a country's technical progress, the
greater the risk of death and the lower the survival chances from poisoned air, water, land,
disasters, noise, and other destructive agents.
