Activity 2 – Lesson Planning in Teaching Speaking and Writing
Instruction: Write and construct two semi-detailed lesson plans, one in teaching speaking and one in
teaching writing for the grade level pre-assigned to you by your course facilitator. Remember to apply
the principles and teaching methodologies introduced in the weekly lesson. In your lesson, make sure to
elaborate the instruction of the teaching strategies you intend to use and employ. See to the sample
lesson plan format below for your reference.

(Speaking)
I. Objectives:
At the end of 50-minute class discussion the Grade-8 students should be able to:
A. interpret the lines taken from the poem,
B. identify and explain figures of speech, and
C. write a letter as an appreciation of the poem.
II. Subject Matter:

III.Procedure:
A. Presentation Stage / Pre-writing Stage
1. MOTIVATION (Responsive Speaking)
Seven-minute Image Talk
The teacher shows the students a short video clip about nature and flowers.
After watching the video, the teacher will ask the students the following questions.
• Are you interested in observing nature?
• What are the things we usually see in nature?
• Can you name some flowers that you have seen from the video I presented?
2. PRESENTATION (Imitative Speaking)

The teacher will present a power point presentation that contains difficult words and do the
pronunciation drills. The students will read those words after the teacher.
Below are the words present in the PPT presentation:

The teacher will provide sentences containing the unfamiliar words and ask the students to give
their own meaning based on the sentences provided.
After the students give their answers, the teacher will check if those are correct by providing
them the exact meaning of those unfamiliar words.
(After that, the teacher will provide the copies of the poem entitled ‘Song of the Flower’.)
Students will be grouped into 2; each group will read per stanza.
3. DISCUSSION (Responsive Speaking)
The teacher will ask the students these following questions:
• Who is the speaker of the poem?
• What do the expressions ‘Blue tent’ and ‘Green carpet’ refer to?
• How are the seasons related to the life of the flower?
• What does the flower do at dawn and at dusk?
• What according to the flower is the wisdom that the man should learn?
4. PRESENTATION & DISCUSSION OF THE SECOND TOPIC:

metaphor, personification and hyperbole.

The students will be grouped into 3, please count-off.
After that they must go to their respectful groups silently.
They will be given 8 minutes to prepare, after that they must present their work in front finish or
unfinished.
Instruction: Do your assigned task based on the poem ‘Song of the Flower’. Make sure to
incorporate the figures of speech in your works.

The teacher will conduct a quiz.
Students will get one-whole sheet of paper class. Then copy and answer what’s written in
the board.
