T-Tests using Jamovi

T-Tests using Jamovi
• In this module we apply T-Test:
• Paired Samples T-Test with the file: Taste Comparison_ttest
• Independent Samples T-Test with the file: Positioning HEIs_mra
Paired Samples T-Test
• Let’s have this Null-Hypothesis for Paired Samples T-Test: There is no significant difference
between Taste 2 and Taste 3.
• Open the file Taste Comparison_ttest in Jamovi.
• Click T-Tests on the Analyses Menu and Select Paired Samples T-Test.
• Move Taste 2 variable to the Paired Variables box; do the same with Taste 3 variable. You
can also highlight both variables and move simultaneously to Paired Variables box.
• Tick Student’s (default) under Tests;
Mean difference (default), Descriptives,
and Descriptive plots under Additional
Statistics; Normality (Shapiro-Wilk) and
Normality (Q-Q plot), under
Assumption Checks; Exclude cases
analysis by analysis (default) under
Missing values.
Paired-Samples T-Test Output using Jamovi
Interpretation:
• The paired samples t-test shows a p-value of .625 (which is not significant).
• The Null Hypothesis (There is no significant difference between Taste 2 and
Taste 3) tested shows that the difference between Taste 2 and Taste 3 is not
significant. Thus, the null hypothesis is not rejected (or it is accepted).
Independent Samples T-Test using Jamovi
• Let’s have this Null-Hypothesis for Independent Samples T-Test: There is no
significant difference between Male and Female students when it comes to quality
education.
• Open the file Positioning HEIs_mra in Jamovi.
• Click T-Tests on the Analyses Menu and Select Independent Samples T-Test.
• Move Quality Education to Dependent Variables box, and Sex to Grouping Variable
box
• Student’s (ticked by default) under Tests;
Mean difference (default), Descriptives,
and Descriptive plots under Additional
Statistics; Normality (Shapiro-Wilk) and
Normality (Q-Q plot), and Equality of
variances under Assumption Checks;
Exclude cases analysis by analysis (ticked
by default) under Missing values. Group
1 ≠ Group 2 (ticked by default).
Independent Samples T-Test Output using Jamovi
Interpretation:
• Based on Test of Equality of Variances using Levene’s with a p-value of .280, equal
variances is assumed.
• The independent samples t-test shows a p-value of .527 (which is not significant).
• The null hypothesis (There is no significant difference between Male and Female
students when it comes to quality education) tested shows that the difference
between male and female students when it comes to quality education is not
significant. Thus, the null hypothesis is not rejected (or it is accepted).
