Work Planner – US version

User And Reference Manual

Preface

I Preface
In order to effectively plan crane applications, LIEBHERR now offers the LICCON Work Planner to its
customers. The development of this comprehensive software package for planning, simulation and
documentation of crane applications was made possible by structuring and streamlining all the necessary
data for the operation of a work planner by computer. In order to assure realistic planning capabilities, the
program had to contain the same data stored in the LICCON in every individual crane, permitting a variety of
uses for the LICCON Work Planner.

I.1 Computer viruses

LIEBHERR continuously examines deliverable files with current Virus-Scanning-Software. A virus
recognition program can never provide complete virus protection, since new viruses or variations of self-
modifying viruses appear continuously LIEBHERR cannot guarantee that the data disks are entirely virus-
free. The end user is ultimately responsible for every software installation. Please note the following tips:

Check each data disk for viruses before reading data from it.

Scan your computer for viruses after each software installation (Files on installation data
disks are most often compressed, and a virus scanner often cannot determine infected
programs).

Use a virus free boot disk with activated write protection for virus scanning.

Protect your computer with a permanently activated virus shield.

Use only current virus scanning software!

VII
Introduction

1 Introduction
In order to effectively plan crane applications, Liebherr offers the LICCON Work Planner to customers. The
development of this extensive software package for planning, simulation and documentation of crane
applications was made possible by structuring the required data for operation of a job planner and by
preparing them for use on a PC. In order to assure realistic planning capabilities, the program had to contain
the same data stored in the LICCON in every individual crane. For all LIEBHERR cranes, crane specific data
disks are available.

2
Notes on Safety

3 Notes on Safety
This user handbook has been compiled for the purposes of operating the LICCON application planner
correctly and efficiently, as well as to enable the numerous planning options to be realised to the fullest.

It is essential, however, that you familiarise yourself with all and texts which must
then be strictly adhered to.

An overview of the most important warning information provided in this manual follows here:

The calculation of the support forces and surface pressures can be performed for LIEBHERR cranes with the
LICCON Work Planner.

The calculation in the LICCON Work Planner includes, among other things:
- The own weight of the crane including ballast
- The own weight of the load
- A dynamic factor of 1.05.

Wind forces on the crane and the suspended load are NOT included in the support forces and surface
pressures which are calculated by the LICCON Work Planner.

The wind forces on the crane and the suspended load and the resulting elastic deformation of the crane
structure, particularly also on the side, increase the support forces and surface pressures shown in the LICCON
Work Planner.

Wind forces on the crane and the suspended load are NOT included in the center of gravity calculation of the
LICCON Work Planner.

The wind forces on the crane and the suspended load and the resulting elastic distortion of the crane structure,
especially also that to the side, move the center of gravity shown in the LICCON Work Planner

3
Notes on Safety

Generally the following applies: If the LICCON Work Planner is in a STOP condition, then the use of the
data is not permissible. If the data is used anyway, the user always bears the responsibility. In any
case, the instructions, notes and conditions in the Operating instructions of the crane must be strictly
observed.

If the equipment of the real crane (telescopic boom support, Y-A-bracket, auxiliary jib, etc…. ) does not match
the equipment, which the LICCON Work Planner accepts, then the use of the data is not permissible.

The 2-D planner in the LICCON Work Planner allows radii which are less than or greater than the radii specified
in the chart for simulation.

The planning should not be based on data (jib angle, radius) which yield these smaller or greater radii. Only radii
which are specified in the chart can be guaranteed for operation of the crane.

Background:
During operation of the crane, the LML must ensure that the full radius range indicated in the chart can be
navigated by the crane. This must be possible both with and without load. Additionally, the jib is subjected to a
certain amount of bending during actual operation which can not be simulated in the 2D-application planner.
When picking up loads at maximum radius or when setting down loads at minimum radius in particular, it is
possible for the jib to attain a radius which is beyond those specified in the chart as a result if this bending. The
LML on the crane is capable of returning from this unspecified range back into a specified radius range. As a
simulator of the LML, the 2D planner in the LICCON Work Planner is also not capable of navigating in these
unspecified radius ranges. As the work planner can not simulate bending, the user will assume that it is possible
to operate the crane in the unspecified radius ranges.

The minimum derrick ballast to be pulled is shown in brackets, when it exceeds the value of the maximum
derrick ballast to be pulled, In this condition, the real crane cannot be driven! The real crane turns off before this
position is reached!

When stating the pulled derrick ballast, the weight of the ballast sled and the linkage must also be taken into
account.

Pulling a ballast larger than the maximum shown limit in the job planner, in this example 683kips, is not
permissible on a real crane under regular conditions!

4
Notes on Safety

If the Caution symbol appears in the MRT operating data field, then a „?“ is shown in the load operating data
field instead of the maximum load.

To be able to configure a crane correctly, the actual condition of crane and surrounding must be set in all stated
categories.

If an additional footnote is shown in any symbol (form of the footnote isn’t fix), the crane operator has to inform
himself about further conditions in the load handling chart book. Further conditions may be prescribed minimum
counterweight.

(applicable for LICCON 2 cranes only) For selected operation modes (e.g. TNZK) a hydraulic hose drum
for the auxiliary equipment is absolutely essential. For other operating modes (e.g. TK) a hydraulic hose drum is
not absolutely essential. In the event that the hose drum is nevertheless mounted, it is imperative that the
corresponding weight in the actual load is taken into consideration!

If the crane in operating modes with derrick ballast DB or DBW is equipped with ballast cylinders, then the
ballast to be entered must be increased by the weight of the ballast cylinder (on the LR 1350/1 by approx. 2.5
t). This does not apply for operating modes with derrick ballast DB or DBW without ballast cylinder.

If an additional footnote is shown in any operating mode symbol (form of the footnote isn’t fix), the crane
operator has to inform himself about further conditions in the load handling chart book. Further conditions may
be prescribed minimum counterweight.

Any existing suspended counterweight version must be taken into consideration by half its weight.

If a LML-stop is displayed, the limit of safe crane operation is reached. When continuing the (not allowed) crane
operation within the LML-stop by bridging the LML-cut off (100%) it is not assured that the characteristics of the
material will not be subject to undue influence or that the crane does not tip. However, this cannot be simulated
by the LICCON Work Planner. Therefore, the calculated figures within the LML-stop are only theoretically. It is
not allowed to plan or operate with these theoretical figures.

5
Notes on Safety

During the erection procedure, the instructions and descriptions in the Crane operating instructions are
decisive!!!

The green erection icon only states that the hook weight, which is set in „Setup2“ can be lifted. It does not state
that the hook is currently raised!!! If the hook is raised along, then the actual hook weight must be manually
entered in the actual load display.

The support force and surface pressure indicator of the application planner is not to be used for ascertaining
stability or lifting capacity. It is imperative that the description regarding erection procedures is observed in the
operating instructions.

The possibility to adjust the support base individually, deviating from the set up condition, has only an
informative character. For crane operation, the currently set support base must match the support base which
was set with the set up key. This is always the case when all percentage data is shown in green.

The displayed value of a support indicates the localized force being exerted to this support. It must be noted that
this support force does not relate to a certain surface (for example 1m 2). For surface pressure calculation, the
support force must therefore be converted to the corresponding surface of a ground plate!

Be aware that the calculated support pressures are only theoretical values, which are only correct under certain
conditions. It is assumed that the crane is parked on even, solid ground, and that it is supported evenly! If the
crane is equipped with a derrick counterweight it must be further provided, that the pulled derrick counterweight
is within the minimum / maximum sector. Since not all influences (such as flexation, wind, crane movements)
are taken into account in the work planner, such as flexure of the boom, etc., a value of 5% is added to the
results. The support pressures at the side of the counterweight may be higher without load than the maximum
pressures operating with load.

Note that the calculated surface pressures are theoretical values, which can only be correct under certain
factors. It is assumed that the crane is parked on firm and regular level ground! Further, it is provided that the
displayed pulled derrick counterweight is within the minimum / maximum sector. Since not all influences (such
as flexation, wind, crane movements) are taken into consideration in the work planner, the actual surface
pressures, depending on the severity of external influences, can deviate significantly from the values calculated
in the LICCON Work Planner. When driving without a load, the surface pressures can be higher than the
maximum surface pressures during operation with a load.

6
Notes on Safety

(Only valid for cranes with assisted steering!) The steering aid is not taken into account for the data of the
max. surface pressure. The steering aid may only be used if the load is close to the ground and if it is secured to
prevent it from moving inadvertently.

Wind forces on the crane and the suspended load are NOT included in the center of gravity calculation of the
LICCON Work Planner.

The wind forces on the crane and the suspended load and the resulting elastic distortion of the crane structure,
especially also that to the side, move the center of gravity shown in the LICCON Work Planner.

The following conditions must be observed for the validity of the given core areas:

The crane with attachment may only be driven . ...

.... without a load on the hook
.... without suspended ballast and without ballast trailer, only with slewing platform ballast.

The simulation is valid for wind velocity 0.

The ground must be able to take on the occurring forces and pressures. It is especially important to observe the
occurring output forces in lengthwise and crosswise direction when driving on inclines.

While driving and for the change from support to crawler (and vice versa), the slewing platform must be aligned
parallel to the crawler carriers. The permissible deviation is  5°.

If possible, the supports must be held on a square support surface, which is as large as possible, and the
support plates should be directly above the ground.

Incline angle changes must be made evenly and continuously -> no edges!

It must be ensured that the center of gravity is within the core surface, before, during and after an incline angle
change.

Driving the crane, and therefore also the planning with the LICCON Work Planner is only permissible if
this is explicitly permitted in the Operating Manual for the corresponding crane.

For driving the crane and therefore also for the planning with the LICCON Work Planner, the conditions
noted in the operating instructions are applicable!!!

7
Notes on Safety

The displayed tele-angle in the crane and in the LICCON Work Planner always refers to the horizontals,
regardless of whether the crane is standing horizontally or positioned at an angle.

The main jib angle is not altered automatically following entry of the longitudinal/transversal inclination !!! This
must also be adjusted manually (if an accessory is mounted, the accessory angle must also be adjusted
accordingly.).

The permissible wind speed Vmax (3 second wind gust speed) always refers to the wind speed at maximum
lifting height.
Instead of the wind gust speed, weather information services often report the wind gust speed, which
are averaged within a time period of 10 minutes (socalled 10 minute average). It refers usually to a
height of 10m above ground or sea level. The determining speed for the computation of a 3 second wind
gust is clearly higher than the average wind speed over 10 minutes.

The current value of the wind sensor on the crane may not be used as the basis for the load lift. Before starting
a load lift, always check the current wind speed for the duration of the load lift at the appropriate weather bureau
or in the internet.

General program description

7 General program description

The work planner consists of several modules, which are covered in a program menu. It consists of the
following programs:

7.1 Load capacity program

This program replaces the load chart manual. It is used to show the load charts and operating modes,
whereby the graphic illustrations are identical with the configuration views on the LICCON monitor in the
crane operator's cab.

7.2 Planner
The planner program makes it possible to move a simplified, true to scale crane model on a grid. The crane
can simulate all movements, while the most important parameters, such as radius, maximum load, etc. are
displayed. The job site can be entered and marked on the grid via the drawing functions. In addition, you
always have access to the support pressures for the momentary crane position.

7.3 Automatic crane selection

By entering the load, radius and lifting height, the crane selection program automatically selects the proper
crane size for the job. The program can search for the optimum crane size by taking different criteria into
account, for example smallest counterweight, shortest equipment, etc.). The crane selection results are then
available in the planner program, and the load case can be simulated on all chosen crane models directly on
the computer.

24
Crane generations

8 Crane generations
In the description below, reference is made often to the terms LICCON1, LICCON2, Setup1 and Setup2.

These will therefore be explained first.

LICCON1: Technology of the first generation crane software. In case of a LICCON1 crane, the LICCON
Work Planner always displays all icons in black. LICCON1 cranes always have the Setup1 set up procedure.

LICCON2: Technology of the second generation crane software. In case of a LICCON2 crane, the LICCON
Work Planner always displays all icons in blue. LICCON2 cranes have the Setup1 and Setup2 set up
procedures.

Setup1: The crane configuration is set with the aid of 5 parameters. The operating elements for the 5
parameters are integrated in the planner program and in the load capacity program.

Setup2: The crane configuration is set with the aid of a variable number of parameters. The operating
elements for the parameters are not integrated in the planner program or in the load capacity program. There
is instead a separate set up window for the planner program. The load capacity program is not available.

Examples for different crane software:

account for the selection. When checking if there is a collision with the interference outline, the boom,
guy frames and ropes as well as the crane ballast are taken into account.

By clicking the OK button, automatic crane selection will continue. A status window opens. The crane
selection can take some time, depending on the computer power and number of machines. During
selection, a list of all configuration conditions is written for each machine. You can check this list at the
end of the program run or print it out. It is also available to you at any time in the planer.

End the program

The current crane selection can be interrupted by pressing the END button. Any cranes found to this
point will be available in the result list.

When you start the planer program directly after the automatic crane selection, the first
crane found for your load case is automatically entered and set to the required position.

Planner program

12.2 Description of Planner program

The program makes it possible to plan crane operations and applications under as realistic conditions.
The graphic view is largely identical to the view in the LICCON system. Since the program uses the same
data, which is also stored in the LICCON, only the equipment configurations can be set which are also
programmed in the corresponding crane.
Generally, different aspects of the crane, such as geometry, support forces, surface pressures, loads, derrick
ballast, …. can be determined and shown. To do so, operating data (boom angle, tele extension condition,
accessory angle, superstructure angle, derrick ballast radius, actual load, derrick ballast, reeving, …) can be
set on the crane. Depending on the set operating data, it is possible that the LICCON Work Planner shows a
STOP symbol, just as the LICCON system on the crane.

If the STOP symbol is shown, then the real crane or the LICCON Work Planner crane model are in a
condition where regular operation is no longer possible. However, operating data can be set in the LICCON
Work Planner crane model which cannot be set in reality. This is due to the tipping edge of the crane, the
material strengths and due to mechanical limits on the real crane.

Example: In the LICCON Work Planner, the boom can be luffed down to 0° , even though in reality
the crane would have toppled over already, because the overall center of gravity has
moved past the tipping edge. In this case, the instructions to erect the crane in the
operating instructions must be observed.

Generally the following applies: If the LICCON Work Planner is in a STOP

condition, then the use of the data is not permissible. If the data is used anyway,
the user always bears the responsibility. In any case, the instructions, notes and
conditions in the Operating instructions of the crane must be strictly observed.

If the equipment of the real crane (telescopic boom support, Y-A-bracket, auxiliary jib,
etc…. ) does not match the equipment, which the LICCON Work Planner accepts, then
the use of the data is not permissible.

From a certain pulled derrick ballast weight, the displayed maximum load (5) is equal to
the maximum possible load „max3“ (4). Even if still more derrick ballast is pulled, the load
will not be increased further. This certain pulled derrick ballast is described as the
„optimum derrick ballast“.

12.2.3.1.7 Warning and reference icons in the load operating data field

The following described warning and reference icons can occur individually or combined in the load
operating data field.

In reference to the STOP icon read section 12.8.1.7 .

The red caution icon appears when the actual load has reached 90 % of the maximum load.

When the boom or the accessories are in the fringe of a chart (very small or very large radii), then it can
happen that a load is still shown even though the real crane can no longer moved into such an area due to
the boom deflection. In such a situation the yellow caution icon will be shown and the maximum load is
shown in gray. This situation should be checked in any case with the load chart. When the radius is not
stated in the chart, then it is possible that the real crane cannot move in this situation.

12.2.3.2 BDF: Max load / actual load (Only for LICCON2 cranes with Setup2)
Depending on how the "load position" identification is set in the "set up2" window, to single hook operation,
two hook operation or three hook operation, the following is shown in the load operating data field:

Single hook operation:

Two hook operation:

Three hook operation:

The colors black, blue and green as well as the numbers for the reeving (in the example:
n1, n4 and n5), the assignment of the load data to the respective hook position.

For some cranes, the load operating data field in single and two hook operation looks as
follows:

In this illustration, the digits in front of the decimal point are written in large numbers and
the first digit after the decimal point is written in a small number.

12.2.3.2.1 Reeving

This area in the load operating data field shows how often (in example 14) reeving takes place and on which
load position (in example 1), so the maximum occurring load in the set load column can be lifted. The load
position and reeving can be set in the "Setup2" window.

Reduce the reeving to obtain a higher maximum load capacity.

Increase the reeving to obtain a higher maximum load capacity.

Due to the current reeving and the length of the load rope
that is used, the load hook cannot be lowered to the
ground in this situation.

In this case, the current load hook position is displayed

green and the maximum possible lowering position is
displayed red.

12.2.3.2.2 Actual load

This area in the load operating data field shows the currently lifted load.

When entering the actual load, the total weight including the hook block and the fastening
equipment must be stated.
Especially a hook block weight stated in the setup screen is not taken into account in the
planner.

12.2.3.2.3 Maximum load

This area in the load operating data field shows the maximum load, which the crane can lift in the current
position based on the set chart, reeving and, if present, the currently pulled derrick ballast.

54

12.2.3.2.4 Warning and reference icons

The following described warning and reference icons can occur individually or combined in the load
operating data field.

During the crane simulation, an LML STOP can occur, which can have different causes.
 Actual load > maximum load from the load chart
 Current reeving < required reeving
 For derrick ballast: Pulled derrick ballast < min. derrick ballast

The yellow caution icon appears when the actual load has reached 90 % of the maximum load.

When the boom or the accessories are on the edge of a chart (very small or very large radii), then it can
happen that a load is still shown even though the actual crane can no longer moved into such an area due to
the boom deflection. In such a situation the yellow caution icon will be shown and the maximum load is
shown in gray. This situation should be checked in any case with the load chart. When the boom radius is
not stated in the chart, then it is possible that the actual crane cannot move in this situation.

12.2.3.3 BDF: Working radius symbol l

The current working radius, measured from the center of the slewing ring, and the current telescopic angle is
shown in this symbol. Dynamic influences, such as flexure, cannot be taken into account in this work planner
program.

The 2-D planner in the work planner allows radii which are less than or greater than the
radii specified in the chart for simulation.

The planning should not be based on data (jib angle, radius) which yield these smaller or
greater radii. Only radii which are specified in the chart can be guaranteed for operation
of the crane.

Background:
During operation of the crane, the LML must ensure that the full radius range indicated in
the chart can be navigated by the crane. This must be possible both with and without
load. Additionally, the jib is subjected to a certain amount of bending during actual
operation which can not be simulated in the 2D-application planner. When picking up
loads at maximum radius or when setting down loads at minimum radius in particular, it is
possible for the jib to attain a radius which is beyond those specified in the chart as a
result if this bending. The LML on the crane is capable of returning from this unspecified
range back into a specified radius range. As a simulator of the LML, the 2D planner in the
work planner is also not capable of navigating in these unspecified radius ranges. As the
work planner can not simulate bending, the user will assume that it is possible to operate
the crane in the unspecified radius ranges.

12.2.3.4 BDF: Pulley head height symbol l

This symbol shows the actual height of the pulley head. If there is any additional equipment installed in this
operating mode, the equipment angle will also be shown On cranes with telescopic jib, the actual length will
appear in this symbol, in percentages (%)(compare tele length).

12.2.3.5 BDF: Telescopic length symbol

This symbol shows the actual extension condition of the telescopic section. The individual percentages as
well as the total length in feet will be displayed.
In addition, the load, which can be lifted at extension of the telescopes is shown on LICCON 2 cranes.

12.2.3.6 BDF: Derrick counterweight und derrick counterweight radius

(Display on cranes with derrick counterweight option)

12.2.3.6.1 Derrick ballast (suspended ballast and ballast trailer)

(1) Minimum derrick ballast to be pulled

At least this ballast for the current position of the crane and the current load must be pulled.

The minimum derrick ballast to be pulled is shown in brackets, when it exceeds the value
of the maximum derrick ballast to be pulled, In this condition, the real crane cannot be
driven! The real crane turns off before this position is reached!

If it cannot be calculated, horizontal dashes are shown instead of the minimum derrick
ballast to be pulled.
This can be the case if:
-- the determined load is smaller or equal to zero on some machines
-- the current load is larger then the load for optimum derrick ballast (max3) for certain
crane types (for example the LR 11350).

(2) Maximum derrick ballast to be pulled

In the current position of the crane and the current load, no more than this derrick ballast may be pulled,
otherwise there is the danger that the crane falls backward.

58
Planner program

(3) Pulled derrick ballast

For the suspended ballast and for the ballast trailer one differentiates between placed and pulled ballast. The
pulled ballast can never to larger than the placed ballast. On the real crane, the size of the pulled ballast is
set via cylinders.

For the LICCON Work Planner, the size of the placed ballast is not relevant, only the size
of the pulled ballast.

A suspended ballast is sketched in the following examples. The results also apply for a ballast trailer.

When stating the pulled derrick ballast, the weight of the ballast sled and the linkage must
also be taken into account.

If the derrick ballast is suspended, then the placed ballast is equal to the pulled ballast.

59
Planner program

If the ballast is on the ground, then the placed derrick ballast is split in the pulled derrick ballast and the
derrick ballast laying on the ground.

If the installed suspended ballast is set on the ground, then “turning” and “drive the
crawler” is no longer possible on the real crane.
If the installed ballast trailer is set on the ground, then simultaneous “turning” and “driving
the crawler” is no longer possible on the real crane.

If the derrick ballast entered here differs from the minimum derrick ballast to be pulled,
then there is a shut off of the crane movement in the LICCON Work Planner, which is
marked by the STOP symbol in the max. load / actual load symbol.

60
Planner program

If the entered pulled derrick ballast exceeds the maximum derrick ballast to be pulled,
then a warning is issued in the LICCON Work Planner program, via the CAUTION symbol
and is not shut off.

Contrary to the LICCON Work Planner, the LICCON control turns off certain crane
movements.

On the crane, the force in the guying between the derrick and A-frame is described as F1.

To avoid a sag of the guying between derrick and A-frame and thus a toppling of the crane, the force F1 may
not drop to zero.

The LML on the crane turns all crane movement except ballast down off as soon as the
force F1 is smaller than a certain determined minimum F1 value („F1min“).
F1min is more than 0.

61
Planner program

Various conditions of the F1 force are described as follows:

The force F1 is larger or the same as F1min (F1 >= F1min), when the pulled derrick ballast does not exceed
the maximum derrick ballast limit.

The condition F1 smaller than F1min (F1 < F1min) is reached as soon as the pulled derrick ballast exceeds the
maximum derrick ballast limit. In this case, the LML on the crane turns off all crane movements except
ballast down and does not allow a further increase of the pulled ballast.

Pulling a ballast larger than the maximum shown limit in the job planner, in this example
683kips, is not permissible on a real crane under regular conditions!

62
Planner program

In addition the following applies only for LICCON1 cranes:

To avoid a sag of the guying, the job planner determines a pulled derrick ballast, from where the F1-force
has the value of 0. This calculated value is called GDB labile.

When the entered pulled derrick ballast is larger than the maximum derrick ballast to be pulled and also
larger than GDBlabile, then the job planner shows a NOTICE icon and additionally, in the crawler pressure
view, the text in the form of F1=0, B/BW=338.5 klbs“ (example). This text shows that in the job planner the
force F1 has the value 0 from the calculated GDBlabile of 338.5 klbs. In this case the job planner takes the
calculated value GDBlabile = 338.5 klbs as the pulled derrick ballast for the force calculation in its crane model
(support forces, ground pressures, ...), even if a larger value (400t) is noted.

12.2.3.6.2 Derrick counterweight radius

One of these symbols is shown in operating modes with suspended counterweight or counterweight trailer:

If this symbol is shown, then the derrick counterweight radius is shown in the derrick
counterweight symbol in the LICCON symbol bar:

If this symbol is shown, then the derrick counterweight radius is

directly visible.

If the mouse cursor is navigated into the left half of the icon on a LICCON1 crane and it changes its shape,
then the derrick ballast radius can be increased or decreased with the left or right mouse button.

If the mouse cursor is navigated into the left half of the icon on a LICCON2 crane and changes its shape,
then the derrick angle (and therefore also the derrick ballast radius) can be increased or decreased with the
left or right mouse button.

12.2.3.9 BDF: MRT-adjustment

If the crane is equipped with crawlers and stabilizers, if the LICCON Work Planner permits it with the set
chart, then it can be set either to crawler or stabilizers with the aid of the MRT operating data field (MRT-
BDF) to evaluate the respective ground or stabilizers pressures.

Describes the chassis (chassis weight).

Described the stabilizers base.

Crane is standing on stabilizers.

If a charts is set, as shown in the following example, which refers to the stabilizers, then the stabilizers icon
appears in the LICCON icon bar. So that the crane is now set to match the chart, the MRT-BDF must be set
in such a way that no Caution symbol appears. This is the case in the example, when the display of the
stabilizers base and that of the stabilizers icon in the MRT-BDF match with the stabilizers icon in the
LICCON icon bar.

By clicking the mouse in the MRT operating data field, you can now change to crawler and / or to another
stabilizers base.

If the Caution symbol appears in the MRT operating data field, then a „?“ is shown in the
load operating data field instead of the maximum load.

When the button is pressed, depending if the crane is on crawler or stabilizers, the
stabilizers pressure view or the crawler pressure view is shown.

The following charts show an overview of the various MRT adjustment possibilities.

A crane configuration (“Setup”) is set using one of the two procedures, Setup1 or Setup2. The Setup1
procedure is described in the following section. Setup2 is only found in Liccon2 cranes and is described in
this section.

There are also Liccon2 cranes with the older „Setup“.

On LICCON2 cranes with Setup2 always two windows are open at the same time.
The left window shows the window to setup the crane. The crane can be configured hereby. The right
window shows the Planner with the crane model. Here the crane can be simulated. If there is a change in
the crane configuration in the left window, the crane model in the right window is automatically matched.

The known configuration bar used for setting a crane with Setup1

(LICCON1 and LICCON2) is eliminated for Setup2.

12.3.1 Description of „Setup2“ windows

The „Setup2“ window consists of the following categories and areas:

1. Chart name category
2. Operating mode category
3. Setup supplement category
4. Environmental and mechanical influence category
5. Lift and winch category
6. Unit area
7. Crane icon area
8. Editing and selection area
9. Navigation area

71
Planner program

With the F1-key, you can switch between categories 1-5 one after the other. The
category, which is active, is highlighted in pink.

The elements, which are within a category are known as „characteristics“.

In addition, a characteristic of a category can be selected directly per mouse click. In that
case, the characteristic and the category are automatically marked accordingly.

Below is the description for the operation of the setup screen. It can be made wither via
the PC keyboard (this corresponds basically to the operation as on the crane) or also with
the mouse.

12.3.1.1 Chart name category

The chart name category is divided in a non-changeable crane
type dependent prefix section (here „t195.“) and two input areas for
selection of a chart. A chart corresponds basically to a setup
status. In the editing mode these fields can be selected
individually. The selected field is highlighted in green. A number
entry is confirmed with the RETURN key.
An invalid set chart name is shown with red numbers.
A valid set chart name is highlighted in blue with white numbers.

12.3.1.2 Operating mode category

An operating mode consists of „characteristics“ (here 1 to 5).

1. Short description of crane system. It is always shown.
2. Type and length of main boom
3. Length of derrick boom (Appears only for respective short description of crane system!)
4. Type and length of auxiliary boom / accessories (Appears only for respective short description of
crane system!)
5. Type of derrick ballast (Appears only for respective short description of crane system!)

If a characteristics is not present for an operating mode (in the example No. 4), then the
following characteristics move up.

72
Planner program

12.3.1.3 Setup supplement category

Depending on the crane type, the setup supplement category can consist of the following characteristics:

Turntable ballast
Central ballast
Support
Slewing range
etc…………

At set up of an operating mode with an arbitrary superstructure weight it is assumed for

the support force calculation that no ballast has been placed on the chassis.

12.3.1.4 Environmental and mechanical influence category

Depending on the crane type, the environmental and mechanical influence category can consist of the
following characteristics:

Load position
Wind speed
Crane incline
Derrick ballast weight
etc…………

The characteristics „Load position“ can be displayed differently. The display shows on
which load position the load or on which load positions the load(s) hang.

For example

73

12.3.1.5 Lift and winch category

Depending on the number of selected load positions in the environmental and mechanical influence
category, the lift and winch category can contain one to three winch characteristics.

A winch characteristic can be divided in the following adjustable components:

Boom nose
Winch assignment
Number of reeving
Hook weight

12.3.1.6 Unit area

In this area, the measuring units with which the crane control is working are shown and also changed.

A mouse click on the unit area changes the unit system from SI  IMP or from IMP  SI.
The change of the unit system is only possible in the LICCON Work Planner.
A subsequent confirmation of the configuration (F8 / OK) changes the internal Job
planner crane model and all displays in the Planner window.

12.3.1.7 Crane symbol area

The operating mode set in the operating mode category is shown here symbolically. In addition, the possible
load positions are shown.

12.3.1.8 Editing and selection area

When a characteristic is selected, there are three ways to show the possible value and to determine a value:

1. The value for this characteristic can be entered freely via an editing field.

2. The possible values are shown directly in the lower part of the editing and selection area and the currently
set value is marked with a red selection bar.

3. The currently set value is divided in its components and shown in the upper area of the editing and
selection area. Then a separate value can be selected for each components.

A selected value is immediately updated in the respective characteristic.

12.3.4.2 Selection of main boom

Select the characteristic main boom so that it is shown with the red selection bar.

82
Planner program

To be able to set the values for this characteristic, a selection list or an editing field appears in the editing
and selection area. (See section 12.3.1.8)

It can happen that for the selected boom one or more elements of the operating mode
category become invalid, because there is no corresponding operating mode for this
boom length. In this case, the elements to be corrected are shown in red, and the chart
name is shown with questions marks.

In the example, a PDW3B-system with a main boom length of 433ft was selected. But
there is no derrick boom with a length of 177ft. In this case, continue simply with the
derrick boom settings.

12.3.4.3 Selection of derrick boom

The characteristic derrick boom only appears when a corresponding short description
was selected (see section 12.3.4.1) . Here in the example „SDWB“.

The derrick boom setting can be skipped when……

-- in the selection only one derrick boom length is available. In this case the derrick boom
element is already shown in the operating mode category in GRAY.

-- the desired derrick boom (gray or blue) already appears.

Select the characteristic derrick boom, so that it is shown with the red selection bar.

To be able to set the values for this characteristic, a selection or editing field appears in the editing and

12.3.4.4 Selection of auxiliary boom / accessories

The characteristic auxiliary boom / accessories appears only when a corresponding short
description was selected (see section 12.3.4.1) . Here in example „SDWB“

The accessory setting can be skipped when ……

-- in the selection only one accessory is available. In this case, the accessory element is
already shown in the operating mode category in GRAY.

-- the desired accessory (gray or blue) already appears.

Select the characteristic accessory, so that it is shown with a red selection bar.

To be able to set the values for this characteristic, appears a selection list or an editing field in the editing
and selection area. (See section 12.3.1.8)

12.3.4.5 Selection of derrick ballast type

The characteristic derrick ballast type appears only when a corresponding short
description was selected (see section 12.3.4.1). Here in example „SDWB“

If the derrick ballast is a suspended ballast or ballast trailer is set via the corresponding
short description (see section 12.3.4.1). For example „SDWBW“.

The derrick ballast setting can be skipped when……

-- in the selection only one derrick ballast type is available. In this case the derrick ballast
type element is already shown in the operating mode category in GRAY.

-- the desired derrick ballast (gray or blue) already appears.

84
Planner program

In this category only the type of the derrick ballast is selected, if several types are
available. The setting of the derrick ballast weight, which is monitored in crane operation
is made in the environment and mechanical influence category! The setting of the pulled
derrick ballast is made in the Planner.

Select the characteristic derrick ballast type, so that it is shown with a red selection bar.

To be able to set the values for this characteristic, a selection list or an editing field appears in the editing
and selection area. (See section 12.3.1.8)

12.3.4.6 Helpful example to set the operating mode category

In the example, the setting of the accessory characteristic is shown. Basically this
example also applies for other characteristics in the operating mode category.

In the example, a fixed jib with 112ft is set to an angle of 40°. The accessory characteristic is already marked
with a red selection bar.

Instead of the 112ft-jib, a 203ft-jib is to be configured

At first, select the 203ft-jib. After the selection of the 203ft-jib, the 40°-element is shown in red in the editing
and selection area. This means that this 203ft-jib is not adjustable to 40°. As a result, the chart name is
shown with question marks, and the green OK icon on the lower right in the „Setup2“ window is masked off.

85
Planner program

Now the angle of the 203ft-jib must still be matched to reestablish a valid status. In the example, the jib is set
to 0° .

12.3.5 Setting the setup supplement category

If the setup supplement category is not yet active, click on a characteristic in this category or press the -
or the F1-key until the setup supplement category is highlighted in pink.

Depending on the crane type, the setup supplement category can consist of the following characteristics:

Turntable ballast
Central ballast
Support
Slewing range

A characteristic in this category can be skipped if……

-- in the selection list for a characteristic only one value is available. In this case, the
value of this characteristic is shown in the setup supplement category in GRAY.

Select a characteristic within the setup supplement category so that it is shown with a red frame.

87
Planner program

You can determine the sequence in which you select the characteristics according to your
requirements.

To be able to set the values for this characteristic, a selection list or an editing field appear in the editing and
selection area. (See section 12.3.1.8)

In the setup supplement category the characteristics are in context. This means that if a characteristic is
shown as specification, then the other characteristic settings may not match and they must therefore be set
again. See example in section 12.3.5.1

One or more characteristics in this or another category must be set again as long as the
chart name and the green OK icon are not visible!

If in the setup supplement category more elements exist than can be shown (max. 5),

then change with this button or the F6-key to the next setup supplement category
bar. The total number of bars as well as the number of the currently shown bar is shown
in the icon.

12.3.5.1 Helpful example to set the setup supplement category

First a few explanations for the color display of a characteristics:

If the value of a characteristic is shown in gray, then only one single value is available. In this case, the
selection for this characteristic can be skipped.

If the value of a characteristic is shown in blue and the green OK icon is visible, then a valid chart can be set
in context with other characteristics.
If the value of a characteristic is shown in blue and the green OK icon is not visible, then no valid chart can
be set in context with other characteristics. In this case, this characteristic must be checked and reset, if
necessary.

If the value of a characteristic is shown in green and the green OK icon is visible, then a valid chart can be

88
Planner program

set in context with other characteristics.

If the value of a characteristic is shown in green and the green OK icon is not visible, then no valid chart can
be set in context with other characteristics. In this case, the other characteristics shown in blue must be
checked and reset, if necessary.

In the example, the characteristic „slewing range“ is first selected and the value is changed from 360° to +-
10°.

The green OK icon has disappeared because there is no valid chart in context with all other characteristics.
The slewing range characteristic is shown in green, because this now first valid characteristic has been
specified in context. Now the characteristics shown in blue must be checked.

89
Planner program

Then the characteristic „Support“ shown in blue is selected.

Here it becomes visible in the editing and selection area that the available values have different colors. The
currently set value is shown with the red selection bar.

A value shown in BLUE leads to another valid combination in context.

A value shown in RED does not lead to another valid combination in context.

If a blue value was selected, then the previously made context specifications (in the example “slewing
range”) are expanded by this value. Therefore this characteristic is also shown in green.

If a red value was selected, then the previously made context specifications (in the example “Slewing range”)
are discarded and the selected value of the current characteristic is set in green as the new specification.

After the context specification was now expanded and still no valid chart can be set, the next characteristic
must be matched (in the example „Turntable ballast“).

Then the characteristic „Turntable ballast“ shown in blue is selected.

The currently set value is shown with the red selection bar.

If a red value is selected, the previously made context specifications (in the example “Slewing range” and
“Support”) are discarded and the current value of the current characteristic is set in green as the new
specification.

If a blue value was selected, then the previously made context specifications (in the example “Slewing range”
and “Support”) are expanded by this value. Therefore this characteristic is also shown in green.

Depending on the crane type, the environment and mechanical influence category can consist of the
following characteristics:

Load position
Wind speed
Crane incline
Derrick ballast weight

A characteristic in this category can be skipped when……

-- in the selection list of a characteristic only one value is available. In this case this
characteristic in the environment and mechanical influence category is already shown in
GRAY.

-- The desired value already appears in the characteristic (gray or blue).

Select a characteristic within the environment and mechanical influence category so that it is shown with a

In the environment and mechanical influence category, if the characteristic „Load

position“ exists (for example ), then, depending which value was selected for this
characteristic, up to three characteristics in the lift and winch category are shown.

If several more elements exist in the environment and mechanical influence category than
can be shown (max. 4), then change to the next set up supplement category bar with this

button or the F6-key. In the icon, the total number of bars as well as the number
of the currently displayed bar is shown.

12.3.7 Setting the lift and winch category

If the lift and winch category is not yet active, click on a characteristic in this category or pressure the - or
the F1-key until the lift and winch category is highlighted in pink.

The number of winch characteristics in the lift and winch category depends on the
characteristic „Load position“ in the environment and mechanical influence category.

A characteristic in this category can be skipped when……

-- in the selection list of a characteristic only one value is available. In this case, the value
for this characteristic is shown in the lift and winch category in GRAY.

-- the desired value already appears in the characteristic.

Select a characteristic within the lift and winch category so that it is shown with a red frame.

94

A winch characteristic consists of the following, adjustable items:

Boom nose
Winch assignment
Number of reeving
Hook weight

The icon shows to which load position the set winch is assigned.

To be able to set the values for this characteristic, a selection list or an editing field appears in the editing
and selection area. (See section 12.3.1.8)

12.3.7.1 Helpful example to set the lift and winch category

First select the first characteristic in the winch category. This characteristic appears split in its individual
elements (in the example W1, 30x, 0.0kips) in the upper area of the selection list.

In the example, the winch assignment is changed first. Winch1, winch2 as well as winch1 and winch2 in
parallel operation are available. „Parallel operation“ is selected.

Note that the currently set reeving number 30x is changed to 15x2.

Normal reeving is shown as for example: 30x

Parallel reeving (parallel operation) is shown as for example: 15x2
After the reeving is the maximum load, which can be held with this reeving.

95

Using the column category

Up to three chart columns can be selected in the column category.

In the example, 9 chart columns are still in the column category after the load case filter and column
criteria filter are activated. A different chart column can be activated with , , , .

Marking chart columns (red, green)

A marking can be set or cancelled with on the active chart column. Marked table columns remain in
the viewing window if the quantity of all chart columns will go through.

The graphic and numeric view is modified accordingly.

Likewise, the set load case values (radius and load) are added to the chart columns and the radius list.

Comparison of the chart columns with the added load case values:
For the set radius (15m), it is apparent in the example that the chart column marked green has the
largest load (89.8t).
For the set load (80t), it is apparent in the example that the largest radius (16.6m) is achieved with the
chart column marked red.

112
Planner program

Setting the crane according to the load case

Activate the column category and set the blue column marking on the desired chart column.

In order to be able to set the crane to the load case (column criteria + set radius + set load), it is
necessary that the active, blue column for the set radius (vertical cross-hair line) has a load value. It can
also be less than the set load (horizontal cross-hair line).

With the ENTER key, the crane is set to the column criteria of the active, blue chart column and the
values of the radius and load from the load case category in the planner program.

The crane cannot be set in the planer program:

If the crane cannot be set, this is indicated by the red exclamation mark.

The elements (radius, column criteria) that could not be set are displayed in red.

In the case of some cranes, various elements cannot be automatically set. If this is
the case, it is necessary to check if the red marked elements in the planner program are
set correctly and correct them manually if necessary!

The example shows that the cause is that the selected radius is too large for the active
blue chart column.

Clicking on the red exclamation mark resets the marked elements.

Case B:

In the curve illustration of the load chart, filters can be activated/deactivated and up to 3 chart columns
can be marked in colour (red/green/blue). (See section 12.6).

Open the documentation window.

Under “Summary”, activate the two documentation elements “load chart” and “curve illustration of the
load chart”.
The figure for the “load chart” documentation element already shows here whether chart column filters
are used during the preparation of the load chart.

The load chart for the set operating mode is generated. It contains a reduced amount of chart columns, if
necessary, according to the activated filters. In the curve illustration of the load chart, chart columns
marked with a color (red / green / blue) are shown with a colored font. The chart columns visible in the
column category are shown with a coloured background (pink).

12.8 Simulation
During simulation, you are able to simulate any crane movement on the screen. The 2D planner uses a scale
model as a simulator, which is able to move on a grid. The grid is calculated to show the crane as large as
possible. If the crane no longer fits in the current grid, if, for example, the telescopic sections were extended,
than the system automatically adjust to the new measurements. However, when the sections are retracted,
the grid does not adjust. All crane movements can be performed via the keyboard or the mouse. The various
functions are as follows:

12.8.1 Crane functions

12.8.1.1 Moving the load hook up / down

In the area of the load operating data field marked in green, the hoist rope can be moved up with the left
mouse key and down with the right mouse key. The length of the hoist rope including the hook block is
illustrated, so that the load can be fastened on the end of the rope. Depending on the set actual load, the
corresponding hook block is automatically selected to be able to simulate the hoist limit switch.

118
Planner program

12.8.1.2 Actual load input

A load to be lifted can be entered in this operating data field. In this value, the weight of the load and the
weight of the hook block should be taken into account.
To enter a load, click with the mouse in the area of the operating data field marked in green.

Enter the value > 0 and confirm with the RETURN key. The load value entry is checked by the load moment
limiter and stops any luffing up or down movement in case of overload.

(applicable for LICCON 2 cranes only) For selected operation modes (e.g. TNZK) a
hydraulic hose drum for the auxiliary equipment is absolutely essential. For other
operating modes (e.g. TK) a hydraulic hose drum is not absolutely essential. In the event
that the hose drum is nevertheless mounted, it is imperative that the corresponding
weight in the actual load is taken into consideration!

When entering the actual load, the total weight including hook block and fastening
equipment must be stated.
In particular, a hook block weight noted in the set up view is not taken into account here
in the Planner.

In the “ Setup2“ window, if the „Load position“ marker is set to two hook operation , two actual values
can be entered in operating data field.

or also

Depending on how the crane is configured, the load position numbers can be different.
Here in the example there are the load positions 1 and 5.

119
Planner program

Since the displayed loads influence each other, the displayed maximum load can only be lifted on load
position 1, when no load is entered on load position 5.
If a load is entered on load position 5, then the maximum load on load position 1 is reduced.

If a load is entered on load position 1, then the maximum load on load position 5 can also be reduced.

120

12.8.1.3 Luffing the main boom

In the symbol for the radius, the main mast can be luffed up or down by pressing the mouse buttons. The
luffing up and down movement is automatically stopped when a LML-Stop occurs, either due to overload or
by exceeded the angle. For this purpose, the load moment limiter (LML) was copied from the LICCON. If a
stop occurs, then this is shown with a red STOP symbol.

The LML can be turned on or off at any time via the icon.

By default, luff up or down in 1° steps.

The step width can be increased to 10° steps by clicking the mouse buttons in
combination with the SHIFT key.
The step width can be decreased to 0.1° steps by clicking the mouse buttons in
combination with the STRG key.

If you click alternately with the mouse into the right half of the symbol, then you can enter the main boom
angle directly via a dialog box.

121
Planner program

12.8.1.4 Telescoping
The telescopic boom can be extended or retracted by clicking the telescopic length symbol. The left mouse
button retracts and the right mouse button extends the boom. You can differentiate between free extension
and extension to a certain discretionary telescopic length.

12.8.1.4.1 Discretionary telescoping

If the center of this symbol is clicked, the telescopic boom is always set to the next discretionary extension
condition. The reeving is automatically corrected to a value, which permits lifting the maximum load
according to the corresponding load capacity chart.

12.8.1.4.2 Stepless telescoping

If technically possible or if an appropriate telescopable chart is set, then this telescope can be telescoped in
or out by clicking the respective tele percentage value. Any connected telescopic sections are also extended
according to the selected telescopic system.

By default, telescope in or out in 1% steps.

The step width can be increased to 10% steps by clicking the mouse buttons in
combination with the SHIFT key.

122

12.8.1.5 Luffing the auxiliary equipment

If there is any movable equipment in the selected operating mode, then it can be moved in the symbol for the
pulley head height. The equipment can be luffed upward with the left mouse button or lowered with the right
mouse button. The load moment limiter functions the same way as for the telescopic boom.

By default, luff up or down in 1° steps.

The step width can be increased to 10° steps by clicking the mouse buttons in
combination with the SHIFT key.
The step width can be decreased to 0.1° steps by clicking the mouse buttons in
combination with the STRG key.

If you click alternately with the mouse into the right half of the symbol, then you can enter the accessory
angle directly via a dialog box.

12.8.1.6 Input of derrick counterweight and adjustment of derrick counterweight radius

On LICCON1 cranes, the derrick ballast radius can be increased or decreased with the left and the right
mouse key in the left icon area.
If you click in the right icon area, then a window opens where you can enter the pulled derrick ballast.

On LICCON2 cranes, the derrick angle (and therefore also the derrick ballast radius) can be increased or
decreased in the left icon area with the left or right mouse key.
In the right icon area, within the green area, the pulled derrick ballast weight can be increased or decreased
with the left or right mouse key.
If you click in the right icon area within the blue area, a window opens where you can enter the pulled derrick
ballast weight.

If the crane in operating modes with derrick ballast DB or DBW is equipped with ballast
cylinders, then the ballast to be entered must be increased by the weight of the ballast
cylinder (on the LR 1350/1 by approx. 5.5 klbs). This does not apply for operating modes
with derrick ballast DB or DBW without ballast cylinder.

Planner program

By default, increase or decrease in 1m/1° steps.

The step width can be decreased to 0,1m/0,1° steps by clicking the mouse buttons in
combination with the STRG key.

If the crane has no option to change the derrick counterweight radius the second
operation of this symbol is disabled.

If an additional footnote is shown in any operating mode symbol (form of the footnote isn’t
fix), the crane operator has to inform himself about further conditions in the load handling
chart book. Further conditions may be prescribed minimum counterweight.

Any existing suspended counterweight version must be taken into consideration by half
its weight.

This note is applicable for the LR 1400/2 with suspended ballast without guide frame.

In the crane as well as in the Work Planner, the indicated derrick angle is fixed with the
indicated derrick ballast radius, just as if the derrick ballast hangs freely. The static,
however, dictates that the suspended ballast is held with guy ropes to the nominal radius
(9m or 11m) and the derrick angle is enlarged accordingly, so that the radius of the
derrick head is within 9.10 - 9.50 m or within 11.10 – 11.50m. This ensures that the guy
ropes are safely tensioned.

To obtain a valid, maximum load carrying value in the Work Planner, the derrick ballast
radius must also be within this window (for example 9.10-9.50m).

However, it is advisable to set the smallest possible derrick ballast radius (for example:
9.10m). The reason for this is that for the calculation of the derrick ballast, for example at
9.10 m derrick ballast radius, the derrick ballast is 1 % too small. At 9.50m, however, the
derrick ballast is 5% smaller than the actual value. The same consideration applies at a
radius of 11.10 - 11.50m.

The problematic edge of the derrick ballast must be determined by setting the derrick
ballast exactly to the derrick ballasting value of 9m or 11m .

12.8.1.7 LML-STOP
During the crane simulation there could appear LML-STOP, which can be displayed by two different STOP-
Symbols within the symbol maximum load / actual load.

STOP:

Actual load greater than maximum load (taken from the load capacity charts) or
 Actual reeving number less than required reeving number or
 In case of derrick counterweight:
 Pulled derrick counterweight < minimum derrick counterweight

95 % STOP:

 Due to the interpolation of the maximum load at operation modes with jib “N” it may occur that the
maximum load will be reduced when luffing the main boom. If the actual load will exceed 95% of the
maximum load the operation stops.
This 95% stop position can be left by:
 lowering of the main boom or
 possibly luffing of the jib “N” or
 bridging of the LML-stop (100% symbol)

If a LML-stop is displayed, the limit of safe crane operation is reached. When continuing
the (not allowed) crane operation within the LML-stop by bridging the LML-cut off (100%)
it is not assured that the characteristics of the material will not be subject to undue
influence or that the crane does not tip. However, this cannot be simulated by the work
planner. Therefore, the calculated figures within the LML-stop are only theoretically. It is
not allowed to plan or operate with these theoretical figures.

126
Planner program

12.8.1.8 LML-STOP with erection procedure (only LICCON2 machines with the new set up procedure
„Setup2“)
In certain crane positions, the LICCON Work Planner changes from normal operation into STOP status. The
red STOP icon appears and the load is no longer displayed. Various crane movements are no longer
permitted!

On various cranes and depending on the crane position, the program switches automatically from normal
operation into the erection procedure or from the erection procedure into the normal operation. Prerequisite
is that in the set up screen a hook block weight has been entered in the lift category. The erection procedure
is shown as follows.
If the crane is in the erection procedure, then this is shown by another icon, in addition to the STOP icon and
the occurring erection forces F1A, F2A and F3A are shown in the crane screen.
On the real crane, the forces F1A, F2A and F3A are recorded on the test points and monitored by the LML.

During the erection procedure, the instructions and descriptions in the Crane operating
instructions are decisive!!!

If the icon is red, then the boom or the accessory may be luffed up/down.
The hook block however must remain placed on the ground.
(Actual load = 0.0kips).

127
Planner program

If the icon is green, then the boom or the accessory including the hook block
may be luffed up / down. In the example, the hook block is laying on the
ground (Actual load = 0.0kips).

If the icon is green, then the boom or the accessory including the hook block
may be luffed up / down. In the example, the hook block is laying on the
ground (Actual load = 30.0kips).

The green erection icon only states that the hook weight, which is set in „Setup2“ can be
lifted. It does not state that the hook is currently raised!!! If the hook is raised along, then
the actual hook weight must be manually entered in the actual load display.

If the icon is red and a negative number, appears in the crane screen on the pulley head, then the lifting
procedure of the boom system must be supported. During operation with a luffing jib, the jib head is carried
along on the pulley cart, which must absorb the displayed force (here 58.0kips).

128

12.8.1.9 Turn the LML on or off

The LML is actuated if the angle has been exceeded or in case of overload. The LML can be bypassed by
clicking the mouse in the 100% symbol. If the LML is bypassed, then the 100% symbol is shown crossed out.

Another click in the symbol reactivates the LML.

On LICCON2 cranes, the 100% symbol is no longer shown. In a STOP condition, the
crane model can still be operated without bypass.

Please also not the basic notes in section 12.2 "Description of Planner program"

Generally the following applies: If the LICCON Work Planner is in a STOP

condition, then the use of the data is not permissible. If the data is used anyway,
the user always bears the responsibility. In any case, the instructions, notes and
conditions in the Operating instructions of the crane must be strictly observed.

12.8.2.3 Load preview

This function is not available for all LICCON2 cranes!

Click in the setting bar on the first icon until the setting bar „Load preview” appears. Here various preview
curves are made available. Normally a preview curve is offered for every possible movement, which the
crane can carry out in its current configuration.

Basically the preview curve shows the load process, if one would carry out the respective movement. When
one carries out a movement, which does not correspond to the current preview curve, then the preview curve
is re-determined.

The following example shows a preview curve for boom luffing. This shows the load trend when the boom is
luffed up and down.
Any other movement (e.g. changing the derrick ballast radius, ...) leads to a new preview curve

12.8.2.4 Calculate support forces and surface pressure

The calculation of the support forces and surface pressures can be performed for
LIEBHERR cranes with the LICCON Work Planner.

The calculation in the LICCON Work Planner includes, among other things:
- The own weight of the crane including ballast
- The own weight of the load
- A dynamic factor of 1.05.

Wind forces on the crane and the suspended load are NOT included in the support forces
and surface pressures which are calculated by the LICCON Work Planner.

The wind forces on the crane and the suspended load and the resulting elastic
deformation of the crane structure, particularly also on the side, increase the support
forces and surface pressures shown in the LICCON Work Planner.

At set up of an operating mode with an arbitrary superstructure weight it is assumed for

the support force calculation that no ballast has been placed on the chassis.

The support force and surface pressure indicator of the application planner is not to be
used for ascertaining stability or lifting capacity. It is imperative that the description
regarding erection procedures is observed in the operating instructions.

Click on the first icon in the setting bar until the „View“ category appears.
Then click on the “Support pressure or ground pressure view” icon.

Depending on the crane type (for example LTM, LR, etc…), a vehicle or crawler contour viewed from above
appears, in addition to a center of gravity display on the left edge.

12.8.2.4.1 Support pressure

There are several variations for the support force display:

View on LICCON1 crane

View on LICCON2 crane without tipping edge display.

View on LICCON2 crane with tipping edge display.

134
Planner program

Generally, the current support force is noted on each individual support.

In addition, the maximum occurring support force is shown on each support in brackets. This is the value that
can occur on the support during a complete 360° rotation of the superstructure.

For some LICCON 2 cranes, the maximum occurring support force is not directly
calculated. Instead, the text "max" is displayed and only by clicking the mouse here is the
maximum support force determined and shown.

In many views, there is a % specification on each support. This indicates the current extension length of a
support.

The displayed value of a support indicates the localized force being exerted to this
support. It must be noted that this support force does not relate to a certain surface (for
example 1m2). For surface pressure calculation, the support force must therefore be
converted to the corresponding surface of a ground plate!

Be aware that the calculated support pressures are only theoretical values, which are
only correct under certain conditions. It is assumed that the crane is parked on even, solid
ground, and that it is supported evenly! If the crane is equipped with a derrick
counterweight it must be further provided, that the pulled derrick counterweight is within
the minimum / maximum sector. The support pressures at the side of the counterweight
may be higher without load than the maximum pressures operating with load.

The calculation of the support forces can be performed for LIEBHERR cranes with the
LICCON Work Planner.

The calculation in the LICCON Work Planner includes, among other things:
- The own weight of the crane including ballast
- The own weight of the load
- A dynamic factor of 1.05.

Wind forces on the crane and the suspended load are NOT included in the support forces
which are calculated by the LICCON Work Planner.

The wind forces on the crane and the suspended load and the resulting elastic
deformation of the crane structure, particularly also on the side, increase the support
forces shown in the LICCON Work Planner.

135
Planner program

For some LICCON2 cranes, it is possible to set up the crane with a variable support and therefore optimally
use it in difficult spaces.

The icons displayed during set up for the variable support bases are defined in the
operating instructions of the crane.

In the following example, the string "<<>>" is shown instead of a value for the support width.

If the support is set to "variable", then the crane can be supported in any mode. To extend / retract a support,
click the left / right mouse button on the corresponding % specification.

136
Planner program

A support force value is shown in red when it....:

- reaches or exceeds the maximum force of the support
- reaches or falls below the minimum force of the support

If the crane is not set up with "variable support" in the LICCON job planner, and yet the
possibility still exists to set the support base individually, then the display is only of
informative nature. The currently set support base for the crane operation must
correspond to the support base set on the set up key. The job planner then also shows all
percent specifications in green.

137
Planner program

12.8.2.4.2 Calculation of tipping edge

For some LICCON2 cranes, the LICCON job planner also displays the tipping edge in addition to the center
of gravity. The tipping edge can run differently depending on the crane support. In the following example, all
supports in the left image are extended to 100 %. In the right image, supports 2 and 3 are reduced to 0 %.

The center of gravity of the crane is shown with a red dot in the tipping edge display. If the center of gravity is
within the tipping edge, then the crane is in a stable condition. Here at least three support values do not
equal zero.

138
Planner program

Wind forces on the crane and the suspended load are NOT included in the calculation of
the center of gravity.

The wind forces on the crane and the suspended load and the resulting elastic
deformation of the crane structure, particularly also on the side, move the center of
gravity shown in the LICCON Work Planner.

In the quadrants of the tipping edge display in which the length of a support is reduced,
the maximum load is also reduced accordingly. This can be seen in the load icon when
the superstructure is turned. An overload can occur here when the load is too big, which

is shown by the icon.

Example:

139
Planner program

Supports 2 and 3 are set to 0 %, supports 1 and 4 are set to 100 %.

Only the superstructure is rotated in the current crane setting.

With increasing rotation between supports 4 and 3, the maximum load decreases due to the reduced
support.

In the example, it results in an overload due to the set load.

In the icon on the lower right, the current superstructure angle is shown in relation to 0° to the front. The
superstructure can be turned with the mouse in this icon via the left or right mouse button, whereby the
surface pressures are constantly updated. Also in the surface pressure view, all crane movements can be
carried out, whereby the effects on the surface pressures can be seen immediately.

Note that the calculated surface pressures are theoretical values, which can be correct
only under certain factors. Basic prerequisite is that the crane is standing on level, evenly
solid ground. In addition, it is presupposed that the displayed, pulled derrick ballast is
within the Min/Max range! Not all influences (such a flexation, wind, crane movements)
are taken into account in the LICCON Work Planner. Thus the actual surface pressures,
depending on the severity of external influences, can deviate significantly from the values
calculated in the LICCON Work Planner. When driving without a load, the surface
pressures can be higher than the maximum surface pressures during operation with a
load.

(Only valid for cranes with assisted steering!) The steering aid is not taken into
account for the data of the max. surface pressure. The steering aid may only be used if
the load is close to the ground and if it is secured to prevent it from moving inadvertently.

12.8.2.4.4 Influence of the load rope on surface pressure, support forces, center of gravity

Depending on the length of the rope, the specific rope weight and the number of reevings, the load rope has
an effect on the calculation of the overall center of gravity, the surface pressure and the support forces.
The example shows how much load rope is taken into consideration.

The example shows the support force calculation.

The example also applies analogously for the surface pressure calculation

12.8.2.4.5 Indication of center of gravity, transversal and longitudinal inclination

Wind forces on the crane and the suspended load are NOT included in the center of
gravity calculation of the LICCON Work Planner.

The wind forces on the crane and the suspended load and the resulting elastic distortion
of the crane structure, especially also that to the side, move the center of gravity shown in
the LICCON Work Planner.

This indication provides information about the center of gravity position when driving the crawler crane
without a load.

If the center of gravity is within the core area (center of gravity is marked in green), then the crane on
crawlers can be driven.
If the center of gravity is outside the core area (center of gravity marked in red), then the crane on crawlers
may not be driven.

For this indication of the center of gravity, it is also possible to take a corresponding sloping surface, on
which the crane is possibly standing or driving, into account. To do so, the crane can be inclined in
lengthwise as well as crosswise direction, by setting the corresponding incline angle. To do so, click with the
mouse on the corresponding angle indication and the following dialog boxes will open:

145
Planner program

The max. adjustable side incline is  4,5°

The max. adjustable length incline is  10°

On LICCON 2 machines, the setting of the longitudinal and lateral incline of the crane is
made by clicking the right or the left mouse button correspondingly on the blue arrows.

The number values in the center of the icon show the scale. The scale is automatically
set.
The number value on the right of the blue arrows shows the currently set incline.

The standard setting is set in 1° increments.

The increment can be increased by clicking the mouse button in combination with the
SHIFT key to 10° increments.
The increment can be decreased by clicking the mouse button in combination with the
STRG key to 0.1° increments.

146
Planner program

The following conditions must be observed for the validity of the given core areas:

The crane with attachment may only be driven .....

.... without a load on the hook
.... without suspended ballast and without ballast trailer, only with slewing
platform ballast.

The simulation is valid for wind velocity 0.

The ground must be able to take on the occurring forces and pressures. It is especially
important to observe the occurring output forces in lengthwise and crosswise direction
when driving on inclines.

While driving and for the change from support to crawler (and vice versa), the slewing
platform must be aligned parallel to the crawler carriers. The permissible deviation is
 5°.

If possible, the supports must be held on a square support surface, which is as large as
possible, and the support plates should be directly above the ground.

Incline angle changes must be made evenly and continuously -> no edges!

It must be ensured that the center of gravity is within the core surface, before, during and
after an incline angle change.

Driving the crane, and therefore also the planning with the LICCON Work Planner is
only permissible if this is explicitly permitted in the Operating Manual for the
corresponding crane.

For driving the crane and therefore also for the planning with the LICCON Work
Planner, the conditions noted in the operating instructions are applicable!!!

147
Planner program

For LICCON1- cranes:

A ground incline is only taken into account for the calculation of the center of gravity
(center of gravity in the core surface, ground pressure, support forces).
A ground incline is not taken into account in the graphic view (the crane is not drawn at
an incline).
For that reason, the pulley head height, the radius, the maximum load, the main boom
angle and the accessory angle are generally not correct in case of a ground incline. In the
LICCON Job planer, these data are shown in gray, when at least one ground incline data
is less than -0.3° or more than 0.3°.

In case of a ground incline, the boom angle is not affected. It may have to be reset, if
necessary.

Please make sure that the set chart is permissible for a crane operation with the data set
in the LICCON Job planer (ground incline, superstructure angle, boom angle, accessory
angle, ….) !

No visual alteration of the crane is evident in the page view of the LICCON Work Planner following entry of
the longitudinal/transversal inclination.
In the support pressure view, however, the centre of gravity for the undercarriage and the slewing platform,
as well as the slewing platform ballast and the derrick ballast are calculatively modified by the
longitudinal/lateral inclination. The jib angle/accessory angle and the derrick angle remain set to the same
set angles which have been entered in correspondence with the horizontals, as they are represented in the
operating data fields (BDF). The jib angle/accessory angle must now be adjusted manually wherever
required.

148
Planner program

The displayed tele-angle in the crane and in the LICCON application planner always
refers to the horizontals, regardless of whether the crane is standing horizontally or
positioned at an angle.

The main jib angle is not altered automatically following entry of the
longitudinal/transversal inclination !!! This must also be adjusted manually (if an
accessory is mounted, the accessory angle must also be adjusted accordingly.).

12.8.2.5.1 Definition of resistance coefficient (cw)

If air flows over or around a body, then the air is slowed down as a result. The body forms an obstacle for the
air (flow resistance). Depending on the form of the body, the flow resistance changes. To describe the form
of the body, the resistance coefficient is defined. The resistance coefficient (c W-value) of a body denotes
how large an obstacle is given by the body for the air.

The cW-value is provided to you by the producer of the load.

The following chart shows the cw-values of prevalent bodies.

13.1 FAQ – Frequently Asked Questions

The LICCON Work Planner program does not start. An error message may appear (Runtime error,
etc…..)
 Check if the environment variables are correct, for more information, see below.
 Start the file …\likaplan\stopepserver.bat.
 Make sure that possibly active virus scanners do not block the following programs.
1.) epl1server.exe
2.) epstartserver.exe
3.) omninames.exe
4.) Likamenu.exe

The installation of crane data runs error free. At the start of the LICCON Work Planner, an error
message „Geometry file not present" or similar is issued.
( This only affects crane data (no LICCON2 machines!!!), which were delivered within the time period
of October 2010 to January 13, 2011. For these machines, various files are not installed. )
 If you only have crane data, which was created within this time period, please contact the email-address
noted in the addendum.
 If you have crane data, which was created outside of this time period, then please install at least one of
them. Then the crane data can also be started, for which the above error appeared.

175
Appendix

The work planner displays a newly installed crane date, however cannot read it.
 A new release of the work planner is required.

How can the increment be changed for crane movements?

 Since LICCON Work Planner version 5.5., the increments for crane movements are no longer set
permanently via the setting field, they can now be increased or decreased with the aid of the Shift/Ctrl –
keys, as required.

Also read, for example " Luffing the main boom " (12.8.1.3).

The environment variables are not or incorrectly defined. Having started the LICCON Work Planner,
an indication on incorrect or non existing environment variables is displayed.
 To be able to work with the LICCON Work Planner, the program needs the environment variables
LIKAPLAN and LIKAZFIL. These variables are set by the installation program in the registry. Check the
environment variables to ensure they are complete and correct.
 For the test whether the environment variables have been set at the start of the computer, please
proceed as follows:

1) Open, departing from Windows, a DOS-window via Start/Programs/MSDOS-input request.

2) Enter the command set | more

3) Check whether the lines with LIKAPLAN=......... and LIKAZFIL=............. exist.

In this connection read also "Entry into the Registry".

4) If these lines are not existent, please read in section "Setting up the file AUTOEXEC.BAT".

The automatic crane selection has determined various practicable configurations however, only the
first of those is always loaded into the work planner, whereas another configuration is required.
 Correct, always the first configuration is loaded into the planner. However, there is a possibility to select
another configuration in the planner itself by clicking on the third symbol from the right on the status and
symbol line.

176
