I NTRODUCTI ON TO THE ST7- HV SYSTEM

The ST7- HV syst em is a program m able PLC suit able for

safet y and securit y inst allat ions wit h a high t echnological
and econom ic cont ent t o ensure safety of people and
prot ect ion of asset s wit hin com m ercial and indust rial
environm ent s. This syst em is ideal for process plant s,
refineries, energy product ion fact ories, governm ent al and
public buildings, m ilit ary, naval inst allat ions and m any
m ore.

The ST7- HV syst em has st at e of t he art t echnology t hat

covers fire & gas det ect ion as well as CCTV and securit y
syst em s.

The ST7- HV syst em has been designed to m eet a variet y of

funct ions, reliabilit y and availabilit y requirem ent s which is
ideal for com panies t hat operat e in t he field of energy
product ion and t ransform at ion. The ST7- HV has excellent
resist ance t o elect rom agnet ic dist urbances and is capable of
cont inuous operat ion in difficult environm ent al condit ions.
I t s capacit y is set to t he com pliance wit h t he requirem ent s
of fault t olerance set by t he I nt ernat ional St andards I EC
61508. Due t o it s com pliance, it has obt ained t he level SI L3
( Safet y I nt egrit y Level 3) cert ified by a t hird party agency.

The ST7- HV syst em is cert ified t o perform m any prot ect ion funct ions. I t is in com pliance wit h t he applicable
regulat ions list ed in t he st andards for t he construct ion product s ( CPD & CPR) and in UL laborat ories t o m eet
t he corresponding US st andards.

Ext ernally, t he panel ST7- HV is sim ilar to a safet y PLC; it is com posed by elect ronic cards m echanically
com pat ible, which are insert ed in 19” racks. The panel ST7- HV can have from 1 t o 10 racks, each rack has 13
card slot s.

About 20 different cards can be used, each dedicat ed t o different funct ions such as firefight ing, gas det ect ion,
int ruder alarm , t echnologic cont rol and com m unicat ion wit h ot her syst em s and/ or panels. The ST7- HV panel
has a dedicat ed rack for t he operator’s int erface and it is const it ut ed by a big alphanum eric display, by a
keyboard and led indicat ions to show t he syst em st at us. Each panel ST7- HV has it s own m odular feeder and
bat t ery charger which allows the panel to work even wit hout an ext ernal power supply.

The ST7- HV syst em can com m unicat e wit h ot her panels of t he sam e t ype and wit h supervisory and SCADA
syst em s. This can be done using bot h propriet ary and st andard prot ocols, such as Et hernet TCP/ I P and
Modbus.

APPLI CATI ONS OF THE ST7- HV SYSTEM

The ST7- HV syst em is com m only used for :
• Aut om at ic fire ext inguishing cont rol system s and in t he case of com plex firefight ing inst allat ion sect ioning.
This is in conform it y wit h t he Const ruct ion Product s Direct ive ( CPD) ;
• I nt egrat ed syst em s, including fire, int ruder/ burglar alarm , CCTV and t echnologic cont rol funct ions;
• Safet y & Securit y syst em s, where panels operat e as m ast er or slave unit s. Panels com m unicat e t hrough
net works ( of a fiber opt ic and fault t olerant t ype t oo) and are connect ed t o DCS or SCADA t hrough Modbus
prot ocol Et hernet and OPC Server;
• Fire prot ect ion wit h special logics t hat are in accordance wit h t he recom m endat ions of t he NFPA st andard;
• Gas det ect ion and m easurem ent syst em s. I t is ATEX- cert ifiable and capable of int erfacing wit h 4 & 20 m A
out put t oxic or explosive gas det ect ors.
All of t hese funct ions can coexist or be configured t o m eet specific cust om er requirem ent s.

SI L syst em s
The ST7- HV panel can be used t o produce syst em s cert ifiable t o SI L2 and SI L3. This is wit h t he requirem ent s
of t he applicable regulat ions that refer t o t he I EC 61508 and deriving st andards.
I n t hese applicat ions, t he ST7- HV plays t he role of logic solver so it represent s t he core of t he syst em and it
can obt ain t he SI L2 or SI L3 level depending on t he cards select ed to be used wit h it .
Clearly, to reach t he expect ed safet y level, t he field devices ( input s and out put s) m ust also be cert ified
accordingly, in addit ion t o t he panel.

According t o t he st andards, t he ST7- HV panel ( or syst em ) , can be considered a PES ( Program m able Electronic
Safet y-relat ed syst em ) and can be configured t o perform t he following safet y funct ions:
• Monit or digit al input s from field devices ( convent ional det ectors, pressure swit ches, release pushbut t ons,
select or swit ches, et c.)
• Monit or analogue 4- 20m A input s from field devices ( explosive gas, toxic gas, oxygen and heat det ect ors,
et c.)
• Elaborat ion of logics as a funct ion of input st at us ( including fire ext inguishing cont rol t o EN12094- 1)
• Cont rol act uat ors ( solenoids, relays, et c.) .

I n t he past , cert ified safet y funct ions were lim it ed only to processed applicat ions and gas det ect ion due to t he
sm all availabilit y of sensor and act uat ors on t he m arket t hat were SI L cert ified; now addressable flam e
det ect ors wit h t his cert ificat ion are highly available and aut om at ic fire ext inguishing com m and devices such as
solenoids for cylinders, deluge valves and fire m onit ors.
