EDUCATION

Sept 2019- Current Year 5 of the Bachelor of Education, Vancouver Island

University, Nanaimo B.C.

Sept 2013- Feb 2015 School and Community Support Worker Program, Vancouver Island
University, Nanaimo B.C.

PRACTICUM & STUDENT TEACHING EXPERIENCE

Nov 2021- Current Colquitz Middle School, Grade 6, Victoria B.C.

April 2022-Current
Currently, I am completing a 7 week practicum where 100% teaching load is for 4 weeks.
I am responsible for all subjects including: Math, LA, Social Studies, Health, French and PE.
During this time I planned and facilitated small group Literature Circles where learners are
making connections between themselves to their novels and peers through discussion
questions and small group discussions. I have planned and facilitated a hands-on unit on Area
and Perimeter where learners have made real-world connections through games, class activities
and a culminating task of creating a Tiny Home. In Social Studies learners will be exploring
Poverty and Global Inequalities where they will be extending their learning and build
connections to the organization KIVA. I have utilized the district Health resource Second Step,
and incorporated Indigenous knowledge into a French unit where learners explore the diverse
Metis communities across Canada.

November 2021-December 2021

Previously, I completed a 3 week practicum where I had a teaching load of 50%. I was
responsible for subjects: LA and double blocks of Social Studies. For Language Arts, I taught a
unit on Paragraph Writing: Informative, Narrative and Opinion. Here learners had the
opportunity to build connections between their personal life and strengthen their writing skills.
In regards to Social Studies, I planned a unit where learners explored Resources and Bill
Creation. In this unit learners shared their perspectives of forestry through participating in a
U-debate and then bridging their knowledge to a mock government vote.
April 2021- May 2021 Frank Hobbs Elementary School, Grade 1/2 split, Victoria B.C.

This practicum was in Year 4 and was 6 weeks where I had a transitional teaching load
from 50% to 100%. It was a unique experience as the classroom teacher moved learning to be
100% outside due to the COVID-19 pandemic. I was responsible for subjects: Math, LA, Social
Studies, Science and PE. In Language Arts, I utilized Adrienne Gears thinking strategies: Connect,
Question, Visualize, Infer, and Transform to engage learners in strengthening their skills in
reading and writing. For Math, learners engaged in various hands-on activities when learning
about Chance, Data and Probability. Including gathering data and creating graphs in the sand. By
incorporating Indigenous knowledge in Social Studies and Science, with permission learners
learned about the Saanich Moons and the connection to land. In Science learners explored the
Water Cycle through storytelling.
