WBT 3.
0 Introduction
This is an introduction to the current version of the CATS web-based
training system.
The software can be accessed using any web browser on any platform
that can connect to the Internet; this means the student isn’t limited to
one computer at one location. The iPad App that accompanies the system
works offline meaning students have the option to work anywhere without
interruption to their studies. Students are given a login by the school
and can be directed to a co-branded version of the website or the CATS
website itself to login.
-1-
Product Tour
On first login, you will be greeted with the ‘Product Tour’ which will give
you a quick guide to where you can find the main parts of the training
system. Click ‘Start’ to begin the tour.
To complete it, follow it through to ‘finish’. Once completed, the tour will
not appear again. Alternatively, to save the tour for later, click on the ‘X’ at
any point, and the tour will appear the next time you visit the dashboard.
-2-
Dashboard
From the dashboard, you can find everything that you need to use the Web
Based Training System, from an overview of your progress, quick access to
progress tests, your Course Director, or easy access to the menu.

Menu
To navigate the site, activate the menu by clicking on the icon top right.
The menu will slide in from the right. From here you can gain access to
each section of the training system:
-4-
Course Director
The course director directs the student through the course telling
them which chapters to read in the study guides which tests to take
etc. A timetable is also provided to aid the distance learning students
in planning the home study element of the course, all content can be
customised.
Tasks can be launched directly from within the Course Director. Attempted
and completed tasks are indicated.
-5-
Progress Indicator
Certain ‘Mandatory Progress Tests’ have to be completed for a given course.
A summary of completion is shown on the dashboard page. Tests are
grouped by Subject, and completed tests are indicated with a green tick.
Overall progress for each stage and subject is indicated on the pie chart.
-6-
Course Info
The Course Info area is a document library for school and course
information.
-7-
Lecture notes
The lecture notes are designed to take the student through a subject in
the form of a series of lectures in the way a student would be taught in a
classroom environment.
-8-
Instructor Help
Instructor help is one of the places a student can go to receive help from
an instructor. This can be tailored to send the queries to the relevant
instructor inbox or to the person who administers the course. Students
can also request help from brush-up and progress test questions.
-9-
Study Guides
The CATS study guides are authored in-house and this puts CATS in a
unique position where content can be kept up-to-date and relevant,
without waiting for another publisher.
- 10 -
Video Media
At CATS we believe that video content is a great learning tool and we have
created a library of high-quality ‘film clips’ covering key difficult subject
matters. We have also developed many ‘training clips’ for YouTube.
- 11 -
Question Bank
The question bank is designed to be an important awareness and learning
tool. Many of the questions have explanations and the system is designed
to highlight which questions a students hasn’t attempted and which
questions the student need to improve on.
- 12 -
Progress Tests
The progress tests section provides direct access to all progress tests
(mandatory or otherwise). These are based on subtopics of a subject.
- 13 -
Brush Up Papers
Brush-up papers are practice exam papers mirroring the duration and
number of exam questions a student would find in the real exam.
- 14 -
Settings
The settings page is where a user can switch course if access to more than
one course is granted.
