Thank you for purchasing an Agilent solution. To get you started and to assure a successful and timely
installation of your Agilent software, please refer to this specification or set of requirements.
Correct site preparation is the key first step in ensuring that your instruments and software systems
operate reliably over an extended lifetime. This document is an information guide AND checklist
prepared for you that outlines the computing requirements for your site. It may also recommend tools
where needed, that will help you get started.

Customer Responsibilities
Make sure your site meets the following prior to the installation date using the checklist below.
For details, see specific sections within this document, including:
the computing environment and the necessary space is made available,
the number & location of electrical outlets for your computer systems and peripherals are planned
that your site meets the software, hardware and networking specifications below
locate your sales order information, software authorization codes and/or software
licenses/certificates
the necessary software media, disks etc are available including upgrade/update disks
that a suitable backup solution is identified for your software
availability of a system/network administrator as needed to connect to your intranet
please consult Other/Special Requirements section below for other product-specific information
If Agilent is delivering installation and familiarization services, users of the system should be
present throughout these services; otherwise, they will miss important operational, maintenance
and safety information.

The firmware requirements of your specific LC module can be found on the ChemStation DVD, LC
Firmware Update; FW*.pdf. Please use the record outlined in the “ACE Firmware Update form”.
These forms can be found in the “Custom Template” folder of the ACE installation.
The FW upgrade process is described in the manual coming with the FW upgrade tool, placed on the
ChemStation DVD, LC Firmware Update.

If the firmware is not current, ask the customer to upgrade to the minimum firmware. For previously
qualified systems, please use the GC IQ Attachment form to record the change.

Agilent “Instrument Utilities” is used to update firmware. The latest firmware can be downloaded from

If the firmware is not current, ask the customer to upgrade the G1600A to the minimum firmware:
Mainframe: 2.3; DAD: 1.2
For LC/MS systems only:
Update the LC/MSD firmware by running the executable c:\Chem32\MS\FIRMWARE\
msupdate.exe while connected to the LC/MSD.
Before upgrading the LC/MSD ChemStation to revision B.04.03, perform a dual polarity Autotune to
verify instrument tune performance and to generate a record of current tune parameters.
2. ChemStation Add-on Solution requirements
Check for installed Add-On Solutions.
Before installing the Add-On solution, verify the correct revision of the Add-On Solution Products for
ChemStation B.04.03, please refer to the “Upgrade Preparation Guide for Rev. B.04.03 ChemStation, Pub
number G2170-90235”, available on the ChemStation DVD, Manuals.
