BIODIVERSITY MAGAZINE THIRD EDITION

Due to eagerness, zeal, and unity of Robertians, Roberto E. Sato

Memorial National High School (RESMNHS) won the judges’ hearts
during the presentation of the school’s Best Practices for the Ramon
Aboitiz Foundation Incorporated - Seal of Excellence for Education
Development (RAFI-SEED) division level last October 15, 2018 at the
Division Office Training laboratory, Carcar City, Cebu.
After a grueling competition among the four secondary schools,
RESMNHS was chosen to represent Carcar City Division to the Regional
level of RAFI-SEED. Apparently, the school implemented different
LEARNING FACILITIES:
projects to nurture and guide the students which really impressed the
panel members. POP OR FLOP?
Details of the foregoing programs and projects are presented in
this masterpiece.

EMPOWERMENT
PROGRAM GITIB O
The School Governing Council (SGC) creates a program that promotes awareness to the R
learners and folks in the community about natural farming in the biodiversity. “GITIB” stands G
for “Guidance and Innovation Towards an Improved Biodiversity” and the same also means A
sprout
LEAD or new life. The program introduces innovation in
farming through the use of “Diversified Integrated
Natural Farming Scheme” (DINFS). This innovation
N
I
combines the traditional way of farming, Z
knowledge-based flexibility, and functional A
biodiversity in the locality. In this program, the T
parents, students, and other stakeholders utilize the I
functional biodiversity in growing variety of O
vegetables and plants which survive despite scarcity
of resources. Strong involvement and cooperation of
N
the parents and other stakeholders especially in

ORGANIZE
teaching the students some important techniques of
traditional farming, vis-à-vis new advancement in
farming, enhances the skills of the learners in
agricultural related activities. Empowerment of the
stakeholders fortifies GITIB program for eight (8)
years now. This program brings significant impact to
the lives of the students particularly in developing
positive attitude towards the preservation of the
biodiversity. Moreover, it also inspires the learners to
enroll in Agricultural Crop Production. Through the

IMPLEMENT
program, the school produces highly competent
graduates with 100% passing percentage of the
National Certificates I and II assessment. Most
importantly, GITIB program provides nutritious food
on the table for the learners at school through
school-based feeding program and at home
through Gulayan sa Tahanan extension project.
Thus, the school has zero (0%) severyly wasted cases.

SUSTAIN
PROGRAM LACBIT O
The school envisions the students to be

morally upright, values – oriented, and God - G
fearing individuals. With this, the Supreme A
Student Government (SSG) officers N
continuously implement projects for character I
development of the students through
Z
program LACBIT. This stands for Leading and
Cultivating Better Individual Transformation.
A
The program aims to instill the values of T
leadership, discipline, and punctuality among I
the learners. For continuously leading the O
students to the right paths, their annual N
undertakings are leadership trainings, pre-
employment and enhancement program for
senior high school graduating students,
INITIATE
recollections, and campus - ministry related
endeavors. Daily activities include constant
monitoring of the late comers for the
minimization, if not elimination, of the
tardiness cases of the students. This research -
based program has been existing in the school
for over 5 years. This effectively increases the
number of students who attend and
appreciate the value of patriotism, build
stronger relationships among peers, and
establish good moral values to everyone in
COUNSEL
the school and in the community. Thus,
RESMNHS has “zero drop- out” cases.

SEED PROJECT (Student’s Empowerment for Endless Development) G
The Supreme Student Government (SSG) commits to foster collaboration among A
students and teachers through various initiatives that benefit all members. One strong support of
N
this organization is the establishment of the different clubs to engage the learners in various
learning opportunities. The program is named “SEED” which stands for Students’ Empowerment I
for Endless Development. Literally, seed means “liso” or a new beginning. The program provides Z
students with the necessary interpersonal skills, personal connections, and self - confidence that A
will help them grow and become productive members of the society. The different clubs involve T
academic, sports and cultural activities. All clubs are empowered and spearheaded by the I
Supreme Student Government officers with the help of the subject teachers. Thus, RESMNHS
decrease its repetition cases to less than 1 %.

AGAKK PROGRAM I
Educators apply a wide range of teaching strategies that develop the critical and N
thinking skills of the students as well as improving their academic performance. To help the S
teachers in providing good learning opportunities to the students, the Supreme Student T
Government (SSG) implemented the AGAKK PROGRAM to provide tutorial assistance and R

enhancement trainings. AGAKK stands for
U
“Ayuda ug Giya Alang sa Kalambuan sa
Kabataan”. This aims to provide a
C
meaningful experience and eclectic T
opportunity to every student to improve I
their skills and build their self - esteem. The O
program also enhances the self - efficacy of N
the student - teacher to share what they
have learned from the other students.
AGAKK is also designed to build stronger
foundation of knowledge and skills for the
future success of the self-determined learners.
Tutorial programs are done in a daily basis
between 3:30 - 4:30 P.M per

TUTOR
club/organization. The mentors are students
who perform well in their respective classes.
There are also students- mentors for sports
activities like Arnis, Taekwondo and Athletics.
The program envisions to cultivate the
learning skills and potentials of the students
for a lifetime success.

Furthermore, the school also provides

“AGAKK” or help to the teens who are early
impregnated through modular approach.
Activities were provided to the pregnant
students at home to avoid bullying from
other students. Close monitoring and home
visitation were done to help them cope with
the lessons as well as depression. Activities in
the modules were done at their own pace
and submitted to their respective teachers
through the help of their parents and siblings.
This program “ AGAKK “ extends its guidance
and service to the students and parents
resulting to the “ Zero Dropout’ cases of
Roberto E. Sato Memorial National High
School.

ENLIGHTEN
I
SMEA (SCHOOL MONITORING AND EVALUATION ADJUSTMENT) N
Sustainable development starts from a constant monitoring and evaluation of the performance of S
the school. This signifies transparency among students, other stakeholders and teachers. Every quarter, T
RESMNHS holds a School Monitoring and Evaluation Adjustment (SMEA). This is a mandated program R
of the Department of Education where Barangay Officials, School Governing Council (SGC), Student
Supreme Government (SSG), Parents, Teachers Association, and other external stakeholders are given
U
ample time to discuss some important matters for the betterment of the students and of the school. C
Curriculum and instruction, for example, is discussed during SMEA to ensure whether or not the T
students attain the mastery level of the lessons. Should there be concerns seen based on the data I
presented, the parents, students and other stakeholders immediately solve the gaps. The stakeholders
assist each other in order to accomplish the preferred outcomes. Moreover, teachers’ performance O
particularly on the carrying out of the learning competencies and performance standards as reflected N
in the curriculum guide are tackled as well.

SMEA gives a meaningful impact to the lives of our learners through notable ACCESS to
QUALITY education and superb GOVERNANCE. The program ensures effective classroom
management, and efficient delivery of instructions. Thus, it helps the teachers attain their desired
personal and professional growth. Indeed, SMEA lightens and expedites significant decisions to be done
and problems to be solved.

IMPROVEMENT OF THE SCHOOL FACILITIES E
A
If every drop of our sweat is drenched with passion, our dreams can turn from
impossible to unbelievable. Since students learn best by providing a quality learning R
environment, the school and stakeholders provide learning avenues for the learners to N
improve holistically. To mention, the school facilities that were built and improved are Home I
Economics Room, Industial Arts Room, Library, Learning Resource Center, Computer N
Laboratory for JHS and SHS e-classroom, Science Laboratory, Admin Office, Sports Facility, G
Clinic, Perimeter Fence and Water and Sanitation (WATSAN) Facilities. The perimeter fence
contains words and sayings to fill and enrich the minds of students with moral values and E
good character. There is a tree called boulevard of values near the gate, near enough to look N
at when they enter and go outside the campus. Learning Resource Centers provide students
V
an outlet of learning not only inside the classrooms. Through this progress, students are more
encouraged not only to study in RESMNHS but also to be proud as Robertians. They are I
more hopeful to achieve and enhance their passion and goals in life by studying in this child- R
friendly environment. Thus, this helps the school attains its 99 % completion rate. O

RESMNHS commits itself towards developing the students holistically by providing students
valuable learning environment. The school implemented the “Gulayan sa Paaralan”
R
program that provides students access not only to healthy and nutritious food but also an N
avenue to offer students tactile instructional materials with the schools agricultural I
curriculum. Furthermore, the program encourages to increase public awareness on health N
and nutrition, especially among the students, teachers, and parents. It also aims to help the G
government solve malnutrition in the Philippines by making school gardens as main sources
of food in supplementary feeding program. It will not only benefit the children regarding E
sustainability but will embed in their consciousness the realization of how important these N
vegetables, their nutrients and vitamins and the effect of healthy living towards academic
V
performance. Turning these idle portions in a somewhat green pasture of vegetation will not
only turn the school into refreshing scenery which is good as a learning environment but also

Solid Waste Management Program is one of the best practices of Roberto E. Sato
Memorial National High School to control its wastes to help save mother earth. Project
Unlan aims to minimize solid wastes and develop the value of consciousness to the
environment. Plastic wrappers are cut into thin pieces used to make pillows for their
comfortability during class discussions. Each student is required to make their own pillows
which can be used for their chairs and during siesta time.

(SERVICE AND GUIDANCE TOWARDS A PROGRESSIVE BARANGAY)
R
Sagup-B is an outreach program of Roberto E. Sato Memorial National High School
spearheaded by the School Governing Council (SGC), Supreme Student Government (SSG) F
officers, and teachers to uphold service and guidance towards a progressive barangay. The O
school has habituated and maintained the use of Takakura Home-Based Method of R
Composting- a research-based technology to natural way of decomposing waste. As the M
school also aims to impart this to the residents in the vicinity, students as well as the faculty A
members encourage parents/ households to use the foregoing composting technology in
N
their homes. Aside from Takakura composing tool, the school also instigates “Gulayan sa
Tahanan” since the school has already implemented the “Gulayan sa Paaralan”. The school C
finds this project of great help to everyone in the community. So, parents plant vegetables, E
herbs and the like for their daily consumption and a source of livelihood. Through this
outreach program, Calidnganons realized how helpful the Takakura Home-Based Method
of Composting and the Gulayan sa Tahanan in their lives.

In a famous cliché that says, “what you sow is what you reap”, RESMNHS has
proven its meaning. As John Wooden has said, “ Things work out best for those who make R
the best of how things work out.” To provide proofs of being the best, the school has gained F
numerous rewards and achievements. It was ranked 2nd in National Achievement Test O
(NAT) in 2017 and it has proven its excellence not only in academics but also in sports by R
ranking as 3rd in Palarong Panlungsod 2017. This success gives the students the idea that M
learning never stops in the four walls of the classroom. They can succeed inspite of scarcity
A
and limitations of sports equipment through their hard work and discipline. Moreover, in
Kabkaban Festival 2017, the school stole the limelight as they grabbed two major awards- N
1st runner up in both Street Dancing and Ritual Showdown. The dance performance C
featured the residents’ way of living and tribute to the founder of the school. Thus, the E
spirit of gratitude is instilled in the minds and hearts of the learners. Also, RESMNHS
lengthens its excellent works from Division Level to Regional Level by bagging out a couple
of awards- Eco-Technology Award and Biodiversity Management Award last November
29, 2017 at Garden Bloc, Cebu IT Park, Apas, Cebu City. Through this, students become
more involved in environmental issues since it has always been the school’s advocacy to
promulgate environmental awareness to the youth. It also develops skills and
understanding among students in initiating active responses and community awareness in
participating environmental concerns. Lastly, the school was hailed as the Best
Implementer Award- 1st place in Brigada Eskwela 2017 through the help of the students,

STRONG PARTNERSHIP AND LINKAGES E
RESMNHS believes on the holistic development of the individual learner. Thus, R
the institution continues searching for partners and sponsors to make the school’s advocacy F
into a reality. The school establishes stronger partnerships with Cebu Technological University-
O
Argao and Barili campuses for the realization of the senior high school immersion program.
Moreover, the annual assistance from Ms. Turner Chiropractic through Mr. and Mrs. David R
and Imelda Nandram, for the undying kindness and untiring support for the success of the M
RESMNHS school-based feeding program for three (3) consecutive years, leads to zero (0) A
severely wasted malnutrition cases in the school. In the same manner, the school has been a N
recipient of the “Basic Education Sector Transformation” (BEST) Australian Aide or cash grant C
for the sustainability of the project GITIB which utilizes “Diversified Integrated Farming
E
Scheme”. Furthermore, the school builds robust linkages with the Department of Agriculture
through its local office, Carcar City Local Government Unit and Barangay Calidngan for the
annual financial assistance especially during Daruhan Festival, Kabkaban Festival and
Leadership Trainings of our students. With their kindness, the school performs astoundingly in
both academics and extra and co-curricular activities.
