Question no 1: [5x2]
a) Define one Newton? Write down relation between SI and CGS unit of force. Define
1kgf? Find its value in SI unit.
b) Define equilibrium of a body? What do you mean by static equilibrium and dynamic
equilibrium, give example of each?
c) From the given figure, calculate moment of forces about point ‘P’ and ‘Q’.

d) A uniform meter scale is kept in equilibrium when supported at the 60 cm mark and
mass M is suspended from the 90 cm mark as shown in the fig. state with reason ,

a) Calculate the change in kinetic energy of a moving body if its velocity is reduced to
1/3rd of the initial velocity.
b) A Force is applied on a body of mass 20 kg moving with a velocity of 40 m/s. the
body attains a velocity of 50 m/s in 2sec. calculate the work done by the force.
c) Derive a relationship between kinetic energy and momentum of a moving body.
d) State work-energy theorem and its expression, state SI unit of power, how H.P is
related to SI unit of power.
e) If the power of a motor be100kw, at what speed can it raise a load of 50,000N.

a) A long rod of length 200cm has its fulcrum situated at a distance of 25cm from the
load. Calculate the mechanical advantage of the rod.

b) Where an object should be placed so that a real and inverted image of same size as the
object is obtained using a convex lens? Draw the diagram.
c) Copy and complete the diagram to show formation of image of an object AB. Which
type of lens is used here?

Question no 5:
a) Two 40Ω resistors and a 20Ω resistor are connected in parallel with a 12V supply.
Calculate the effective resistance and current through each resistor. Find the current
through 12V supply. [3]
b) A wire of given material having length ‘l’ area of cross section ‘A’ has a resistance
of 10Ω, what would be the resistance of another wire of same material having length
l/4 and area of cross section 2.5A. [3]
OR
The resistance of a wire of given material of length 2m is 30Ω at a temp of
25°𝐶.Diameter of the wire is 0.6mm, then what will be the resistivity of the material at
that temp.
c) An electric geyser rated at 1500W, 220V is connected to a 250V supply line. Find :
(i) Electric current drawn by it.
(ii) Energy consumed by it in 50hrs. [4]

a) A ray of light PQ is incident normally on the hypotenuse of right angled prism ABC as
shown in the diagram. [3]
b) The diagram below shows a point source inside a water container. Four rays A, B, C,
D starting from the source P are shown up to the water surface.
(i) Show the path of these rays after striking the water surface. Critical angle for the
water air surface is 48°.
(ii) Name the phenomenon which the rays B and D exhibit. [4]
(a) A half meter rod is pivoted at the center with two weights of 20gf and 12 gf suspended
at a perpendicular distance of 6 cm and 10 cm from the pivot respectively as shown
below. [3]
Find the net moment about the center, if the 20gf force is put on the other side of pivot
find the resultant moment of the forces on the rod?
(b) A boy weighing 40 kgf in 4 min and a girl weighing 30kgf in 3min, both can climbs
up a stair of 30 steps each 20 cm high. [4]
(i) Compare work done by them. (ii) Who among the two develops more power?

A body slides on an inclined plane at an angle of 60°. Find its kinetic energy at
the bottom as given in the figure and also find the work done by gravity on the
body
(c) Derive a relationship between mechanical advantage, velocity ratio and efficiency of a
machine [3]
Question no 9:
(a) Draw the diagram consisting of 4 pulleys system in block and tackle system. [4]
(i) Find mechanical advantage (MA) of the system if load L is pulled by it using
effort E.
(ii) If the load is pulled up by a distance of 1m, how much does the effort arm
move?
(b) A pulley system has three pulleys. A load arm of 120N is over come by applying an
effort of 50N. Calculate the mechanical advantage and efficiency of this system. [3]
(c) A pulley system with VR=4 is used to lift a load of 175kgf through a vertical height of
15m. the effort required is 50 kgf in downward direction [3]
(g=10) calculate
(i) Distance moved by the effort.
(ii) Work done by the effort.
(iii) MA of the pulley system
(iv) Efficiency of the pulley system.
Question no 10:
(a) A house has main fuse of 5A rating. 5 bulbs each of 60W and 2 tube light of 40W
each are used simultaneously. [4]
(i) How much current is drawn from mains of 220Volt?
(ii) How many more bulbs each of 100W can also be lighted on a festival day?
(b) Mention advantages of connecting the appliances in parallel and disadvantages of
connecting them in series. [3]
(c) Find the equivalent resistance of the circuit when
(i) Switch is closed (ii) switch is open [3]
