More than two years ago, the world was hit by an unforeseen catastrophe. A catastrophe that will eventually go
on for years and will cost a lot of changes in the way we live our life: the coronavirus. As a student and a concerned
Filipino youth, how can we combat this COVID-19 pandemic? What steps do we need to take to help even though we are
young at age?
The first case of the COVID-19 virus in the world was dated back in December 2019 at its origin place, Wuhan,
China. In the Philippines, it was first recorded in January 2020. We are now in the year 2022, but we are still stuck in the
new normal. It feels like we are still far from returning to the true normal. With this, we need to take action and
contribute meaningfully to the fight against the unseen virus.
Certainly, it’s a must even for young people like us to follow the imposed health and safety protocols to protect
not only ourselves but also our loved ones and others. By simply abiding to the pandemic restrictions, we are helping
lessen the spread rate of the virus. It is crucial to find ways to be engaged as well. As a student leader, I’m always vowed
to use my platform for good deeds and causes. A project concerning the COVID-19 pandemic was among our programs
for the length of our term now. It’s about spreading, not the virus, of course, but awareness on how to prevent
contracting COVID-19 and how young people can contribute to the community in the fight against it. Furthermore, we
should also demand accountability from our government, from the executive to the legislative level. The COVID-19
pandemic proved the importance of having a good and effective government. We should call them out peacefully for a
better pandemic response as we are left behind by neighboring nations when it comes to the performance of dealing
with the present pandemic.
We may be young at age, but we can do things beyond our imagination. We are the future of our world and our
country; therefore, we must now begin to act and shape that perspective. We can start with the simple and small ways,
that will eventually become enormous later on. Remember that there is nothing we cannot conquer, and that does not
exclude the unseen COVID-19.
