Introduction
Health, as well as safety in the workplace, is often ensured by the government. Occupational
health and safety can be regarded as the pubic health field that specifically studies the trends of
injuries and illness among workers. Further, it also proposes as well as implements regulations
and strategies for preventing them (Michaud, 2017). In this context, the Occupational Safety and
Health Administration is important which is a part of the labor department of the US and
responsible for maintaining health and safety in the workplace. In this report, the five safety,
health, and administration measurements are taken by Toyota will be discussed. This will be
followed by safety awareness programs implemented by the company and how the company
conducts OSHA inspections will also be outlined.
1. Five ways of occupational safety health and administration are taken by Toyota.
Answer: Toyota Tsusho group understands that health and safety group companies under the
Tsusho group will be able to bring health and safety activities to effect thereby maintaining
health and safety in the workplace and a comfortable environment for work. Toyota has adopted
several occupational safety and health administration measurements to maintain health and
safety in their working environment. Five of these measures have been outlined in the following.
1) The top management of Toyota Tsusho group recognizes that efficient and good
communication between employees and the top management is important for health and
safety management (Mehri, 2018). Hence, the top management plans to respect the
intercommunications with each employee.
2) Toyota further carefully observes the guidelines and laws of work and operations for
maintaining safety and health within the customers’ premises. Hence the Toyota group is
aimed at establishing some necessary regulations and rules for improving safety and
health management within the company.
3) The group also uses the occupational health and safety management system. Hence the
group is aimed at improving and maintaining these systems to achieve the goal of better
and higher levels of health and safety in the workplace.
4) Toyota organizes the appropriate organizational system and will clearly state its core
responsibilities for the health and safety activities of the entire group.
5) For promoting a healthy and comfortable work environment the group is going to execute
sufficient and necessary training and education for each employee of the organization. It
will further help them to secure health and safety.
2. Safety awareness programs that have been implemented by Toyota for meeting the
requirements of the Occupational Health and Safety Administration
Answer: Toyota Tsusho group implemented several awareness programs for meeting the
requirements of OSHA. These have been outlined in the following.
Workshops for office safety: Toyota being a trading company, most of their work is carried out
in offices Hence, in the Fiscal year that ended on 31 st March 2017 the company began carrying
out workshops for office safety for raising awareness about health and safety concerning office
work. In the fiscal year that ended on 31 st March 2020, the workshops for office safety were held
approximately 15 times. A total of 143 employees attended these workshops which brought the
cumulative total to about 650 or above.
Workshops for practical safety: Toyota Tsusho group the workshop for practical safety in the
fiscal year which ended on 31st March 2020 for heightening the sensitivity of the employees
towards danger. During the workshops, 61 types of health and safety dangers are discussed.
Among these 61 dangers, dangers related to being squeezed and dangers that involve different
heavy items are common. In addition to organizational employees, business partners involved in
the health and safety cooperation council can also attend these workshops (Peterson and Cohen,
2020). Nearly, 287 people attended the workshops in the fiscal year that ended on 31 st March
2021 when the COVID pandemic was going on.
Providing Safety Information - Safety information is particularly distributed at Toyota through
the electronic bulletin board in the house. In 2009’s March the electronic bulletin board of OSH*
- NET was established and it was particularly used for centralizing the dissemination of various
materials on health and safety management, various meetings' minutes, and case studies on
accidents. In March of 2017, the bulletin board's name was changed to ANZEN-NET. In this
bulletin board, the design was overhauled and updated information was added increasing the
content and making it easier for users (Pistoia and Liaw, 2018) A Zero Accident room has been
further established at the head office in Nagoya where data concerning case studies on accident,
initiatives of safety management as well as training content is displayed. The company strives to
provide its employees with a variety of understanding and information about different health and
safety effort. The main aim of the whole company is to improve safety awareness.
3. How does the company conduct OSHA inspections?
At Toyota Tsusho group OSHA inspections are carried out through the following methods.
These have been outlined in the following.
Preparation, as well as presentation of credentials: Before the inspection, is carried out
the inspector will inspect the worksite history and review the processes and operations
that are currently in use (Johnson, et al., 2020). The inspector will provide the officer
with credentials containing serial numbers and photographs when he arrives at the
station’
Opening conference: The opening conference particularly begins when the explaining
officer starts explaining the inspection scope and the reason for the inspection.
Tour: After this, the inspector takes a tour of the total facility with some selected
representatives.
Closing Conference: The tour of the facility is completed through a compliance officer
holding conference for closing with representatives and employees to discuss the
findings.
Penalties and violations: The official OSHA inspection results arrive in the mail along
with violations citation. Employers need to post citations in related areas for creating
safety awareness among employees.
The best suggestion for carrying out the OSHA inspection includes the preparation and
presentation of credentials and a Tour of the facility
Conclusion
In this report, the five safety, health, and administration measurements are taken by Toyota have
been discussed. This has been followed by safety awareness programs implemented by the
company and how the company conducts OSHA inspections have also been outlined.
