I. OBJECTIVES:
After going through the lesson, students are expected to:
1. Recognize the parts and elements of an effective paragraph.
2. Compose an effective paragraph.
3. Express their opinion on the importance of writing an effective paragraph.

The topic that I am going to write is about my

1. Let’s start with the top bun which


represents the topic sentence. Remember,
our topic sentence should contain our main
idea. This is the topic that I have written.

reasons.

2. The next step is to think of three reasons


why hamburger is our favorite food. These
will support our main idea and our topic
sentence. The tomatoes, lettuce, and patty
will represent our Supporting Sentences/
details.
The first reason why hamburger is my favorite is:
SD 1:
Hamburgers are delicious.

But we must always elaborate our supporting


details to make our readers understand our point.
We can use examples, reasons, or definitions or
explanation.
Explanation: They always satisfy my taste buds.

To further support the main idea, I’ll add another


reason why hamburger is my favorite food.

SD 2:
There are many varieties
Example: cheeseburger, chicken burger and
Hawaiian which I love the most.

Alright. To make our reason stronger, let us add an


explanation why burgers are nutritious.
Explanation: The lettuce and tomatoes in the
burger are good for our health.

Now, if we have a top bun, of course we should


have a bottom bun to complete our burger. This
will represent our concluding sentence. Here, we
can restate our main idea.

3. Let’s end with the bottom bun.

Concluding Sentence:
There are other delicious foods that I love but a
hamburger will always be my favorite.

Look at our concluding sentence. Is my stand


about hamburger changed?

Great! Our conclusion states that even there are


many delicious foods, a hamburger is still my
favorite.

There you go class, we are now done making our


burger and at the same time we have just written
all the information we need for our paragraph. The
next step to do is combine them and write our final
draft. We should use transition signals which we
discussed in our previous lessons to observe
coherence.

This time you are going to work with your groups.


I will give you a topic and your task is construct a
paragraph about it. Remember, to make your
paragraph effective, it should have the complete
parts. Make the Hamburger model as your guide.
Before you go to your groups, take note of the
following rules:
1. You will be given 10 minutes to do your
activity. (The students will do the task.)
2. In the first 5 minutes, you organize your
ideas using the hamburger organizer. When
I say time is up, you start writing the final
draft of your paragraph in the manila paper
provided per group.
3. Each group will be given 5 minutes to
present their output.
4. Your outputs will be graded according to
the rubrics.
5. Additional 5 points will be given to the
group who could present it with creativity.

Goal- You are going to convince the people of Sta.


Cruz that your hamburger is the best burger in
town.
Role- You are the owner of the fast food chain
your group is representing today.
Audience- The people of Bolitoc, Sta. Cruz.
Situation- Your company would like to increase the
sales by convincing people to buy your product.
Product- Create a one-paragraph advertisement to
convince the people that your burger is the best in
town.
