INPUT AND OUTPUT DEVICES

1. INPUT DEVICES:
The devices which are used to give data and instructions to the computer are called Input
Devices. Various types of input devices can be used with the computer depending upon
the type of data you want to enter in the computer, e.g., keyboard, mouse, joystick, light
pen, etc.

EXAMPLES:
❖ Keyboard.
❖ Mouse.
❖ Joy Stick.
❖ Light pen.
❖ Track Ball.
❖ Scanner.
❖ Graphic Tablet.
❖ Microphone

2. OUTPUT DEVICES:
The devices which are used to display the results or information are called Output Devices.

3. GRAPHICS TABLET:
Also called a drawing tablet or a pen tablet, a
graphics tablet is a natural input device that
converts information from a handheld stylus. The
user uses the stylus like a pen, pencil, or
paintbrush, pressing its tip on the tablet surface.
The device can also be used in replacement of a
computer mouse

3.1. WHO USES GRAPHICS TABLETS?

Below is a list of professions and people who are more likely to use a graphics tablet .

➢ Architects and Engineers

➢ Artists
➢ Cartoonist
➢ Fashion designers ➢ Graphic designers
➢ Illustrators

3.2. HOW GRAPHICS TABLET WORKS:

The tablet is attached to the computer and the stylus to the tablet. The tablets capture the
image as data which is then stored as a file or document. Graphics tablets can be used like
a large marker board to take notes on or to create outlines at a conference or lecture
during which images have to be viewed by the audience. They can also be used by
individuals as drawing surfaces to create drawings/ paintings, and edit images. The output
is almost close to handmade sketches and drawings.

3.3. ADVANTAGES & DISADVANTAGES OF GRAPHICS TABLE:

3.4. Types of graphic tablets:

There are two main types of graphic tablets with different structures and functions.

PAPER TABLETS:
The first type of graphic tablet does not have its own screen. It is a sheet of paper type
work surface as shown in (figure 1). You will draw on it with a stylus provided in the pack
or purchased separately, while the final effect of your work will appear in real time on the
computer screen. Such a tablet also usually has buttons corresponding to the mouse
buttons

MONITOR TABLETS:
The second type of graphic tablet is a device with its own display as shown in (figure 2) .
The effect of your work is visible directly on the tablet. Such a device, whose operation is
almost identical to that of the classic tablet, operates on the touch screen principle. Each
operation performed is immediately visible where you draw with your stylus. This type of
graphic tablet is generally much more expensive than standard tablets but offers natural
working conditions, to which many graphic designers are used.
