PED 028

A. Where am I in my life how do they get there?

- The client is still at the point where he is still learning and developing himself. From all of his
experiences and learnings through the years, he is there.

B. Do i like about myself, my body? What Do i not like?

-What he like about his body is his facial features and as a person he is still struggling. As what
he has said, he is still struggling about his asthma. Furthermore, this will often breathe more
quickly through his mouth causing cold and dry air that can cause the muscles around the
airway to tighten, increasing the chance of experiencing an asthma.

C. What is it about my body and mind that i am unhappy with that could be positively
affected by exercising regularly?
-As mentioned above, he is still struggling with his asthma and that cause him unhappy because
there’s a limit when he exercised. Given that he’s an asthmatic person, he uses the exercise
advised by the doctor.

D. What would i like to change, if anything, and why?

-If he would be given a chance to change anything, he would change about his asthma. It's
really hard for air to get in and out of his lungs, so he wheezes and struggle to breathe.
E. What is going on in my life that would facilitate behavior change? Inhibit it?
- As of the moment, he’s doing his very best to get himself to keep on going every single day.
No matter what circumstances may take place, he would make sure to take deep breaths and
to think rationally to whatever he may possibly do to prevent any misunderstanding and fights.
Moreover, the thought of exercising is what he believes facilitate behavior change for it will
change physically and mentally. Not only that, he continues to strive on improving himself daily
for his own and for his family. However, he may have a few problems when it comes to other
matters, know that he will be able to withstand these circumstances and challenges in life.

F. Where am I now in my physical activity level?

- Currently, the client has been doing Zumba a lot in the morning, which have helped a lot to
improve him physically even if it's a slow process, but the important thing is that there's
progress as he moves his body along with a proper diet. So, he can say that his beginning his
journey to healthy lifestyle.

G. Have I tried regular exercise before and failed to stick with it?
- Yes, he has. It was around the year 2012 or 2013 when he decided to go and exercise on a gym
nearby with his closest friends. And it was through his courage and hard work, that made him
step up that time. However, he had his downfall with sticking to the routine, the gym decided
to close down and most of his friends have stopped as well. So, eventually he regained the
weight he has lost.

H. Currently, what do I estimate my potential to stick with an exercise program to be?

- The Client’s ability to think positively and persevere on what his goal is, is what he believed
the greatest potential he has in order to stick with an exercise program that he may execute in
the future However, considering that he have duties in their household he shall try to manage
his time in order for him to performers daily.

I. What unmet personal needs am I thinking of attempting to meet?

- The unmet personal needs that his thinking of attempting to make is for him to be able to
become physically fit and healthy as he continues to improve his health, mentally, physically,
and emotionally.
J. Am I ready, really ready, to try it? Would I really like to change, even if it means giving up
something I am accustomed to?
- The client is fully ready to change even if it means giving up something he was accustomed to.
He is also fully ready to engage in physical activities and exercises not just because it is essential
for staying fit and healthy, but because they are an important aspect of asthma care.

K. Do I think that I can mobilize the mental strength if that is what I want or need to do?
- Physical training trains muscles, but more importantly, it trains and develops lung capacity.
Probably yes, he can mobilize his mental strength if that is what he wants or need to do. In fact,
his mental health acquires strength by accomplishing something that he desires. However,
asthma does not hold him back to keep him from being active.

L. What has my previous experience with personal health behavior change been? Good? Bad?
Some success? None? Will that help me this time around?
- His previous experience with "personal health behavior change" is still ongoing but I see how
it gives him a positive outcome on these days. Exercises that focus on regular breathing and
developing lung capacity are particularly beneficial to him as a client who has asthma. It is a
success in a way that it makes him feel productive each day and he doesn’t easily get tired of
doing something. Lastly, it really boosts his confidence level.

M. What can I learn from experience that will help this time? Am I being realistic about
this?
- Practicing deep-breathing exercises before engaging exercises is important to the client. As a
person who has asthma, he also noticed that it can improve mood and reduce stress, which can
lessen asthma symptoms. He accepted the fact that we are also a human being capable of
doing mistakes and by that we are also capable of changing those mistakes in a better way.

N. What is my self- image?

- There can be two types on it--- the negative and the positive but the client always dwells on
positive since it has great impact than seeing himself in a negative manner. When he looks in
the mirror, he believes that he is somewhat closer to his ideal version of himself.
O. Do I think of myself as good-looking? Attractive? Not attractive? Healthy? Unhealthy?
-The client thinks of himself as good-looking and appears to be attractive but unhealthy since
he has this asthma condition since child. But with regards to his condition, the client is still
grateful for his life and will continue to live contentedly. He says being unhealthy couldn’t stop
him for who he is and what he can do.

P. What do I see when I look in the mirror?

-Every time he sees himself in the mirror, he sees a man standing, looking at his reflection and
amazed of what he has become. That for all these years he strives to live every single day with
his asthma and accomplished all his struggles when asthma attacks. The client’s appearance
that reflected in the mirror showed how great of a man he has become.

Q. What kinds of feelings do those images elicit?

-Those images draw out the client’s contentment. Despite the fact that he can’t do things he
would like to do because that might trigger his asthma, the client continued to be happy inside
out and live a life without much worry. Negativity could be worrisome for him so he chose to
live positivity with him that it could elicit on his image.

R. If I am planning to exercise to help in weight loss or simply to shape up a currently out of

shape body, will I be able to use the facts that smaller size clothing now fits and that my waist
is getting smaller as measures of success, rather than scale weight (which might or might not
change much, even as I am redistributing body mass)?
-The client thinks of both ways in identifying the outcome in weight loss or re-shaping his body
size. The fact that the client can able to fit smaller size clothing and that his waist size has
become smaller or using scale weight as a way to identify the changes is both a successful
outcome for him. Both choices given in the statement are the same for the client’s thoughts.

S. And further, if I am going to exercise primarily for weight loss, is my true goal to become
really “thin”, rather than somewhat thinner?
-If the client would exercise for weight loss, the client’s goal would be to become thin, rather
than somewhat thinner. Becoming thin is already a goal for him and a success too. Being thin
for him is already a sense of contentment that he would not ask more further of his physical
appearance or weight scale.
