Leadership Training day 1: Leadership

Intro
Scripture: Luke 2:52
Jesus increased in wisdom and stature and favor with God and man.
- Jesus was 12 years old when he started asking questions and giving answers on the
temple of Jerusalem
- 2 Corinthians 5:21 – He was a man but He knew no sin…
- Wisdom includes not only knowledge but the capability and judgement to use that
knowledge in daily life
- It is essential to know that Christ faced human problems – He was not supernaturally
gifted but he GREW in wisdom by questioning. This means that every child of God may
acquire knowledge in the same manner as Jesus did through the Holy Spirit.
- 2 Timothy 4:12: Don’t let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an
example for the believers in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith, and in purity.
- Learning is a process in which we always do until we rest in peace.

Leadership Training
– is a dynamic relational process in which youth, under the influence of the Holy Spirit, partner
to achieve a common goal.
Common Goal: Serving others by leading and leading others by serving.
- A training to that prepares youth to manage time, work, in a team setting, set goals,
start conversations, facilitate meetings, and make effective presentations which are
positive life skills that they will carry into adulthood.
- A necessary guide to influence opinions and policy, and become as role models for their
peers and younger generations.
House Rules: Be Participative
Objectives: S.I.D.E.D
-State the youth leader’s role articulately,
-Identify strengths and weaknesses and
-Develop the enhance life skills of a youth,
-Explain the value of being leader especially in times of crisis,
-Discuss to the care group the essentials of setting goals.
The Role of a Youth Leader:
- Should be responsible for planning and executing a variety of activities that aim to
positively impact the lives of the young people
- May work in a specific area, such as religious groups or sports team
- May work more broadly with all the youth
Important Skills to develop as a Youth Leader:
- Commitment to young people and to understand the factors that are affecting their lives
- To act with integrity in times of stress
- Has interpersonal skills, with the ability to establish good relationships with a range of
people
- Patience, tolerance, and flexibility (but not compromise)
- Communication, team work, and concrete thinking
Qualities of a Good Youth Leader:
- Humble, spirit filled, prayerful, courage may be required to follow through, even in the
face of uncertainty or the presence of fear, self-control, sense of justice, always have a
plan, go an extra mile, pleasing personality, compassion and understanding, and a
master of detail (if anyone would ask you, you’ll know the answer).
Principles of a Christian Leadership:
- Everything should be motivated by Love.
- Modesty (be a role model), self- development, motivation, correction (only fools doesn’t
accept corrections), integrity, follower of God’s will.
Ways to be a Great Youth Leader:
- Has a purpose and a plan, but remains flexible.
- Model behavior. Don’t fall into the “do as I say, not as I do” trap.
- Empower others. Given the opportunity to participate, lead, and build their skills.
- Get organized, wear a thick skin, view learning as a two- way street (Accept corrections
as part of your learning, failures are part of learning, you can learn from each other).
- Be ready for anything, Remember: It’s not all about you!
- Ask for help. Have a plan B… or Z, Get a mentor!
- Honor your Commitments
