Evaluative Essay
Which is the best donut in town? Evaluate and compare with other donut shops.
How long have you lived in Puerto Princesa? If you’re like me who has lived here all my
life, then maybe upon seeing the given situation, one establishment has already crossed your
mind. Let’s go and evaluate the two leading and only donut shops in town.
As I’ve said, we only have two donut shops in town namely Dunkin’ Donuts and Mister
Donuts. These two pastry and café shops compete not only in Palawan, but nationwide. Of
course, they both have their similarities and differences. Firstly, they differ with their origins
and history. While Dunkin’ Donuts was founded by William Rosenburg from Quincy,
Massachusetts in 1950, Mister Donuts was founded by Harry Winokur form Japan in 1956.
Evaluating these two establishments come in different factors such as the quality of
their food, their service, ambiance, and accessibility. In terms of the quality of food servings, I
prefer Dunkin’ Donuts. Not only is it nostalgic because it was the first shop who was established
in the city, I also adore the sweetness, creaminess, and bursting flavours of its doughnuts.
Secondly, in terms of the quality of their service, I would have to go with Mister Donuts. As I
avoid generalization of Dunkin’ Donuts’ staff, their service definitely deserve one star. They are
rude at times and does not allow you to idle without ordering anything even if you say you are
still waiting for your company and what’s even worse is they ask you to leave. As the saying
goes, “Customers are ALWAYS right”, and by going back to what they did, they seem to have
forgotten the old saying. Mister Donuts’ staff on the other hand, greets and assists you when
you need them. I definitely give their service five stars! Regarding the ambiance, I go with
Dunkin’ Donuts because of its calming and soothing colors which give you peace in mind which
is extremely important especially while reviewing and/or doing academic works, while Mister
Donuts’ ambiance is not that relaxing because of the bright colors their walls have. It also have
dark lightings which makes me feel uneasy at times. Lastly, in terms of accessibility, they both
are accessible to people for they are both located along Rizal Avenue.
Overall, I prefer Dunkin’ Donuts because of its nostalgic taste and smell which brings
back memories of my childhood and the old Puerto Princesa. Either way, both still offer
scrumptious doughnuts so there’s not much to say.
