INTRODUCTION

Every day in our lives, we all have a self-task that we do time after time. For example, when
we woke up the first task we do is to make our bed, wash our faces, and prepare breakfast.
There are tasks that we don't do alone, on our school we have group work or thesis projects
that we work on as a group to accomplish a certain task or project. In this case, we're going to
focus on people that work together to accomplish a certain goal and it is called an
organization. From a bird's-eye view, an organization is composed of people, processes, and
structures that work as one to accomplish goals, tasks, initiatives, and outcomes. According
to Louis Allen, “Organization is the process of identifying and grouping work to be
performed, defining and delegating responsibility and authority and establishing relationships
to enable people to work most effectively together in accomplishing objectives.” In other
words, an organization is a tool for accomplishing organizational goals.

Characteristics of an Organization

1. Division of Labor – It is the root of any organization's makeup. The joint efforts of
persons who work together for a purpose have to divide into different functions. The
division of work is allocating responsibility for each organizational component to a
certain individual/group.

2. Coordination – It is having a unity of action among individuals, groups, and

departments. It brings harmony in carrying out the different tasks and activities to
finish.

3. Objectives – The specific results that an individual or system wants to achieve within
a time span.

4. Authority – It is defined as the power and right of a person to use and allocate the
resources efficiently, to take decisions and give orders so as to achieve the
organizational objectives.

5. Communication – Effective communication is vital in an organization because it is

concerned with working with others.

6. Goal-Oriented – The people in the organization have one purpose and align with the
organization’s mission and vision.

7. Flexibility – The ability to adapt and adjust the activities in response to change taking
place in the external environment.

There are factors that affecting the performance of an organization. External and internal
forces shift the organization to change and perform in order to reach the standard. It is
important for an organization to overcome these challenges and to improve the efficiency of
an organization. The efficiency is the amount of increase in the output, or the production can
reach using a specific number of resources. The more output achieved using the same
resources, the more efficient the organization is. There are various approaches to
organizational effectiveness:

A. The goal approach is the highest profit by giving the best service that will result to
high productivity.
B. System-resource approach focus on the inputs over the outputs of the system.
C. Functional approach assumes that the organization has already identified its goals,
and now the focus is on achieving its goals and how to give back to the society.

Factors affecting organizational effectiveness

a. Casual Variables – These are the independent variables that can be changed
by the organization and the management, for example policies, skills and
behavior, leadership, and business strategies.

b. Intervening Variables – The “health of an organization”, these are the

performance goals, motivation, loyalty, attitude and perception of the
employees and their capacity for efficient decision making.

c. End-result Variables – These are inputs, outputs, and profit of an organization.

These reflect the achievements of an organization.

Organizational Leadership

In this case study we are going to focus on the independent variables that affects the
efficiency of the organization specifically the leadership. Leadership is the key factor for the
make or break of the organizations. It is the process of influencing others, making a
difference to others leading them towards the desired goals. Leaders helps in visualizing the
path of their company, it is leaders who define, shows and translates values in strategies,
taking the action and being accountable.

Improving Efficiency of an Organization with Leadership

The effectiveness of the leader could be a function varied organizational conditions, some
personal and interpersonal behaviors. Leader effectiveness indicates the importance of self-
sacrificial work that may bring great benefits to the organization. Employees are inspired by
the waiver behavior of leaders in organizations and might give aiming to these actions to
shape their goals resulting to an increase on their job performance. In general, the effective
behaviors of leaders have a major positive impact on their followers and ultimately on social
systems. Coordination becomes possible through leadership because it provides individual
motivation and persuades the group to possess an identity of interests and outlook in group
efforts to attain the common objectives of an enterprise, the manager must guide and
coordinate the activities of his subordinates. A good leader helps its member through
collaboration, sharing necessary information that will help the team to solve a problem or to
reach the goal of the organization. There is a study conducted by Karl Sveiby (2007) that
translates the messages of the 2,988 respondents found that they are blaming their supervisor
for a lack of knowledge sharing. Having a healthy knowledge sharing has a positive effect
on the employees.

CONCLUSION

Leadership plays a very important role in improving the efficiency of an organization.

Having a good leadership can result on increasing the job performance of your employees,
creating a strong bond between the employees and the management, having an organizational
culture that shared by members of the organization resulting to increasing the efficiency of
the organization.
