Department of Education: A Semi-Detailed Lesson Plan in Mathematics 9

This document provides a lesson plan for teaching students about parallelograms. The lesson plan has the following key points: 1. The objectives are for students to learn the properties of parallelograms, solve for sides of parallelograms, and understand the real-life applications. 2. An activity is outlined where students work in groups to solve problems involving finding unknown sides and diagonals of parallelograms using given properties. 3. A discussion follows to analyze the activity, discuss parallelogram properties, and provide an example problem for students to solve on their own. 4. Students are assigned to research the Triangle Midline Theorem for the next lesson.

A Semi-detailed Lesson Plan in Mathematics 9

Content Standard: Demonstrates understanding of key concepts of parallelograms and triangle similarity.
Performance Standard: Is able to investigate, analyze, and solve problems involving parallelograms and
triangle similarity through appropriate and accurate representation.

MELCs:
1. Uses properties to find measures of angles, sides and other quantities involving parallelograms. (M9GE-
IIIb-1)
I. Objectives:
At the end of 60 minutes, the students are expected to:
1. State the different properties of a parallelogram.
2. Solve the sides of parallelograms.
3. Value the importance the lesson to real life situation.

II. SUBJECT MATTER

TOPIC: SOLVING FOR SIDES OF PARALLELOGRAMS.
MATERIALS: Laptop, Marking pen, manila paper, masking tape, TV
REFERENCES: Mathematics 9 Textbooks for Learners, LAS

III. PROCEDURES:
A. Preparation
 Prayer
 Checking of Attendance

B. Review/Presentation of topic
Name It!
Give a True or False review about the different kinds of quadrilaterals.
Then ask the students what is the topic for the day.

C. ACTIVITY:

Instructions: Divide the class into 4 groups. Each group must select their leader, secretary and reporter. The
groups are task to answer a given problem and are given manila paper and marker to write their solutions.
The activity is graded based on the rubric.

Using the conditions and properties that make the quadrilateral a parallelogram, solve the following by
group:

Directions: Find the measure of the unknown variables and

sides of the given parallelogram as shown in the figure
below. Show your solution.
1. What is the value of x?
2. What is the value of y?
3. Find the perimeter of parallelogram FATE
4. If diagonal EA is 32, what is the measure of SE?
5. If FS is 11, how long is the length of diagonal FT?

ANALYSIS:

- What did you feel while doing the activity?

- Which part of the activity you find easy? Difficult?

- What learning did you get from the activity?

- As a student, list down the different aspects of your life wherein you encounter that life is just like
parallelogram considering the properties involving sides and diagonals.
-
ABSTRACTION:

Discussion:
Check the students output and at the same time discuss the process of solving the problem.
Discuss the conditions and properties of quadrilaterals that are parallelogram.
• To solve for the unknown sides and diagonals involving parallelograms, we need to
be guided by the different properties of a parallelogram.

• These are different Properties of Parallelogram that will guide you in solving for the
sides and diagonals.
1. In a parallelogram, any two opposite sides are congruent.
2. The diagonals of a parallelogram bisect each other.
Give more example if it is not clear to the students.

APPLICATION:

Instruction: In a ½ crosswise of paper, solve the following problem. Show your solution.

A rectangular garden has a perimeter of 56 m. Its length is 5 m less than twice the width. What is the
area of the garden?

ASSIGNMENT/ AGGREEMENT:
