Mount the dial indicator on a stationary and stable plane/structure apart from the equipment, but near
hold down bolt;
Place the dial indicator plunger near a hold-down bolt and on the equipment;
Gradually loosen the hold-down bolt using a spanner tool and observe the indicator of the dial
move;
Continue the gradual loosening of the hold-down bolt, until the indicator would stabilize (stop);
If the reading of the dial indicator exceeds 2 Mils (1 Mil = one thousandth of an inch (0.001 inch);
Choose a shim plate size that corresponds to the value of the dial indicator reading;
Insert the required shim plate to fill the gap between the equipment footing and the base.
Re-tighten the hold-down bolt;
Repeat the procedure on the rest of the hold-down bolts;
