C. PRESENTING EXAMPLES Tuesday
A Text type shows the structure, content, and purpose of a spoken or written text. Text types also
help us identify which texts have the same or opposite characteristics and features. Through knowing text
types, we will be able to write appropriate compositions in any given situation.
The two groups of text types are Factual and Literary. Factual text types inform, instruct, or persuade
using facts and information, while Literary text types entertain, enlighten, or elicit emotion creative language
and structure.
Let us now know what types we have under each group. In the Factual group, we have the following:
1. Informative Texts educate readers by imparting straightforward information and facts, but never
personal opinions. Examples include how-to articles and essays that help a reader understand
how something works, such as "How to Make Chocolate Chip Cookies," and "The Health Benefits
of Lemon Water."
2. Expository Texts share information, ideas, explanations, and evidence/s. Some examples of
expository works include magazine and newspaper articles, textbooks, and autobiographies.
3. Persuasive Texts intends to convince readers to believe in an idea or opinion and to do an action.
Many writings such as criticisms, reviews, reaction papers, editorials, proposals, advertisements,
and brochures use different ways of persuasion to influence readers.
1. Narrative texts tell a story. It may include story elements such as setting, characters, conflict, plot
(rising action, climax, falling action), and ending.
2. Descriptive texts focus on describing a single location, object, event, person, or place, and engage
all five of the reader’s senses -- the sights, sounds, smells, tastes, and feel of the text’s subject.
D. SHOWING EXAMPLES A. Practice Task 1
AND PRACTICING NEW
SKILLS
Word Play! In the game, your goal is to reach the finish line by enumerating the different text types.
What you will need: Under the Literary group, we have the following:

- A dice (or an improvised one)
- Pen and Paper
● How to play:
- Throw a dice to get a number. The number will tell you how many steps you can take from
START.
- Once you end your count at the bottom of the ladder, you will find a word clue telling you
to reveal a text type. If you got the correct answer, you could climb up and proceed with
the game. If you did not get the correct answer, just throw the dice again and continue
playing.
- When you end your count at one of the snakes’ heads, you will again find a word clue
telling you to reveal a text type. If you got the correct answer, you will be spared by the
snake bite. But if you answered the wrong text type, you would slide down to the tail of the
snake
