Lesson Plan in Math II (TTL Demo)

The document provides a detailed lesson plan for teaching the commutative property of multiplication to 2nd grade students. The lesson plan includes learning objectives, subject matter, materials, procedures, and evaluation. Students will participate in group activities to illustrate repeated addition examples of the commutative property. They will then present their work and discuss patterns they notice when the factors are changed. The teacher will formally define and demonstrate the commutative property. Students will apply what they learned by providing more examples at the board and for homework.

Detailed Lesson Plan in Math 2

I. Learning Objectives

At the end of the lesson, student should be able to:

A. Define commutative property of multiplication.

B. Show cooperation through group activity and class discussion.

C. Demonstrate understanding of the commutative property of multiplication through repeated

addition.

II. Subject Matter

Topic: Commutative Property of Multiplication

References: K-12 Grade 2 Math Curriculum Guide, Grade 2 Math Worksheet

Materials: Pictures, Visual Aids, bond paper, scissor, pencil, color, popsicle stick, marker

Values: Cooperation

III. Procedure

prayer?

of paper or candy wrapper under your chair and Picking up the pieces of paper under the chairs.
if none you may take your sit. Done teacher

Checking of Attendance
Monitor, is there any absent for today?
Very good, I’m glad that everyone is present None Teacher
today. Maintain that perfect attendance.

Preliminary Activity
It seems that you have fully understood our last
topic, now we will proceed to the next topic. But
before we formally start our lesson. Let us have
an activity that is related to our topic. Are you
excited? I will group you into 4. Please count 1 to
four.
Go to your respective group.
What you’re going to do is to illustrate the
following multiplication using repeated addition.
1. 8 x 5 = _____________________
2. 9 x 2 = _____________________
3. 3 x 7 = _____________________

Then you will choose one representative to

present your output.

Presenting the Lesson

Class, look at the illustration I posted. Study the

given data.

Multiplication sentence: ____________________

5x3 = 3x5
15 = 15

Multiplication sentence: ____________________

I want you all to observe the illustration closely

and tell something about the property or pattern
on the two equations?

What did you notice about the factors? Order of the numbers or factors are changed but
the answer remains the same when multiplying
numbers.
How many chocolate chip cookies were there in There are 15 chocolate chip cookies in the first
the first group? set.
How about on the second group? For the second group, there are 15 chocolate chip
cookies.
How about the product? Both of them have the same product. The
product does NOT change, even if the order of
the factor is changed.

What is the difference between the two Order of the factor

What is the common between the two The product

illustration?

This property is called the commutative property

of multiplication.
Today, we are going to explore the commutative
property of multiplication.
In multiplication, the commutative property
means two factors can be multiplied in either
order and still have the same product that
changing the order of the factors does not affect
the product.
To illustrate Commutative Property of
Multiplication (CPM), get the reverse of the
multiplication then we will use repeated addition.

Who can give me an example wherein

commutative property is shown?
(Student’s answer may vary)
Yes, _____________

Thank You, (Students Name)

Group Activity

When doing your activity, you should follow the

following norms/standards.
In your own words, define Commutative Property
of Multiplication
Two factors can be multiplied in either order
and still have the same product that changing
the order of the factors does not affect the
product.
This property is called ____________

Summarize today’s lesson.

(Student’s answer may vary)

Fill the missing number.

8 x 5 = ___ x 8
____ = ____

The missing factor is 5 and 40 is the product of

both equations.
Are there any questions? Did I make myself clear?
I think that you are ready now, you may start
Give one example of commutative property of
doing your task
multiplication using repeated addition.
(Student’s answer may vary)
Generalization
Are there any questions? Is it clear now?

Since, you don’t have any question regarding our

topic, I will ask some questions and related
concept about our topic. I put a sticker under
your chair. Look under your chair and get the
sticker. Those who got the sticker with star can
now sit back and relax while those who got the
sticker with the heart. You are so lucky today
because you got a mission.
Kindly read your mission.

9x8 = 8x9
9+9+9+9+9+9+9+9 = 8+8+8+8+8+8+8+8+8
72 = 72
Very good!
Next question.
10 x 6 = 6 x 10
10+10+10+10+10+10 = 6+6+6+6+6+6+6+6+6+6
Precisely!
60 = 60
How about the next item?

4x9 = 9x4
4+4+4+4+4+4+4+4+4 = 9+9+9+9
Application 36 = 36
Since you already understand our lesson, let us
have our final activity. In this activity, Illustrate
the following using repeated addition. I want you
to solve here in the board.

Number 1
Yes, _________

1.) 9 x 8 = 8 x 9

Correct, Very Good!

Number 2
Yes, _________
2.) 10 x 6 = 6 x 10

Very Good!
Number 3
Yes, _________
3.) 4 x 9 = 9 x 4

Very Good!

Class, give yourselves a Good Job clap for a job

well done.
