4. ADVERTISEMENTS
Do you like watching TV advertisements or Internet advertisements?
From my perspective, nobody is partial towards commercials because they are
completely distracting and time-consuming.
However, if you put me on the spot, it would be internet ads simply because
when I am surfing youtube videos, I can opt for skipping the ads which makes
me annoying. After all, it spoils all the high intense emotions when I'm
watching a fascinating part of the film drama.
Unlike TV ads I have to endure a succession of commercials until my favourite
TV show returns. You know, this situation instantly turns the mood off.
What kinds of advertisements do you dislike?
there are exaggerated and false advertisements that make me lose faith and
even squander my money when buying products online.
You know there are many kinds of advertisements, from traditional to the more
advanced digital ones that use often spot when you browse websites or social
media.
Personally, adverts on television are not my cup of tea. They are only screened
for a few seconds, so I might miss out on some important information.
Moreover, I can not read customers’ comments about the advertisement to
reaffirm my belief about the product or service quality like social media
adverts.
On the other hand, the merit of TV ads is their creative and captivating content,
drawing a lot of attention from people.
Do you share advertisements with others?
No, I don't normally do so unless the ad is thought-provoking. I mean,
everybody around me is allergic to commercials, so bringing them up in
conversation would be bad for my popularity.
Do you want to work in advertising in the future?
Absolutely no, I don't think I have any talent for advertising and I'm not up for it
(willing to try it out). I believe if one wants to work in that kind of industry, he
or she must have creativity and the ability to convey the message of the
product or service that can surely entice (attract) people. And honestly, I don't
think I possess (have) those kinds of skills.
8. OLD BUIDINGS
Have you ever been to any old buidings in your city?
Well, Quang Ngai has made a name for itself with the Son My Memorial - an
ancient historical monument. Outside the museum building is a powerful
monument depicting scenes from the massacre. It was erected in the post-war
era. It's actually meaningful because of its distinctive architecture and this is
why it has become a tourist attraction.
Do you prefer to live in an old buiding or a modern house?
Without a shadow of a doubt, I would go with a modern house, for safety
reasons. I have witnessed numerous degraded old buildings go up in flames,
and just for that, I would never think of setting my foot in these places.
Are there any old buildings you want to see in the future? Why?
Let me see, I was once a huge fan of Korean historical series, and in those films,
there were these stunning palaces with authentic Korean backgrounds, so
being able to see these palaces for the first time with my very own eyes is in my
to-do list in the next few years.
Yes, there are a lot of old buildings on my bucket list. Starting with my own
country, I’d like to visit all of the well-known monuments along its length and
breadth. Then there are the Colossus Colosseum in Rome, the Angkor Wat
Temples in Cambodia, buildings in Beijing’s forbidden city, Hagia Sophia in
Turkey, the Pyramids of Giza, and so on.
Do you think preserving old buildings is important?
I reckon if it is for the purpose of tourism, or historical value, then yes, old
buildings should be kept around. Other than that, I don’t see any reasons why
we should leave them as they are.
for the purpose of: với mục đích là
kept around: được giữ lại xung quanh
5. MEETING PLACES
Where is your favourite place to meet your friends?
Without a doubt, there is a stunningly beautiful Korea restaurant just a stone’s
throw away from my home. You know, it’s a vibrant(c1,sôi động) one always
delivering you more than satisfactory(thoả đáng) food and service. My best
friend and I have a special liking for Italian cuisine, so from time to time(thỉng
thoảng) we visit that kind of restaurant and devour(c1, ăn một cách nhanh
chóng) our favorite dishes while catching up(trò chuyện cuộc sống vì lâu ngày
gặp). But I must admit that we all juggle(tung hứng vật lộn) a hectic schedule so
getting together is quite a luxury.
How can you choose a place to meet a new person?
I think some places have that vibe(rung cảm tốt) that really allows us to convey
conversations more easily. I bet no one would be willing to have a meeting at
dull(b2,chán ngắt, buồn tẻ), boring venues(b2, địa điểm) right. And I guess
foods, beverages(c1, đồ uống) and services are kinda part anf parcel too.
Do you think there are some places more suitable for meeting people than
others?
To my mind, it all comes down to(phụ thuộc vào) how formal the meetings are.
For conferences and dates(hẹn hò), restaurants or a function room at a hotel or
any fancier venues make more sense for sure(có ý nghĩa hơn). For casual
occasions, I guess cafés which have settings(không gian) with comfort seating, a
low level of noise, a tranquil ambiance(bầu không khí yên tĩnh), and privacy
protection are great because they are pretty chilled out.
Are there any differences between your favourite meeting places now and the
ones when you were little?
When I was a kid, I spent hours playing hide and seek and soccer with my
gang(b2, băng nhóm) on the street. As an adult, I have a penchant for quieter
and more comfortable settings, like a coffee shop you know, I can have a talk
with my friends or sometimes negotiate(b2, thương lượng /nəˈɡəʊ.ʃi.eɪt/) with
my clients.
9. TALENTS
Do you have any special talent?
Yes. I think I have a knack for singing. Ever since I was a kid, I’ve performed in
many shows and school events. Moreover, I’m quite excel in math, I can
do mental calculations(tính nhẩm) quickly and precisely and I used to have a
flying score in Mathematics(a2, toán học).
Did you learn it when you were young or recently?
Well, I don’t think I would ever master it recently but I guess I’ve always been
really musical(a2, kết nối với âm nhạc). My dad – noticing my passion for music
– signed me up for singing classes when I was ten. These classes provided me
with a real leg up(n,sự trợ giúp) to hone my skill(v, cải thiện kĩ năng) in singing.
Regarding my arithmetic(c1,n,tính toán số học) ability, I have to say that
it comes pretty naturally to me since I’ve never taken any classes for mental
calculations.
o A real leg up (n): sự trợ giúp
o Hone my skill (v): cải thiện kỹ năng của mình
o Arithmetic ability (n): khả năng tính toán
o Comes pretty naturally (v): đến một cách khá tự nhiên
Do you think your talent can be useful for your future work?
Yes sure, singing can be used to earn a living if I am devoted to being a singer or
it can be useful for family and company gatherings(c1,tập hợp,thu thập,họp).
Also, the value of mental arithmetic is quite apparent when I need to add up
bills(cộng hoá đơn) or do complex calculations. Basically, it makes life so much
easier.
Do you think anyone in your family has the same talent?
I must say I got my talent for singing from my dad. I believe singing is my
innate(=inborn,bẩm sinh) talent and it has just developed when my dad taught
me the different techniques in practising vocal pedagogy /ˈped.ə.ɡɒdʒ.i/ (sư
phạm thanh nhạc). When it comes to my mom, she is a math teacher. I’m
pretty sure that I’ve inherited(thừa kế) all my abilities from my family
members.
PART 3
1/ when should parents encourage their children?
Parents should applaud the virtuous behavior of their kids. They should also
inspire their kids when they are taking part in sports or nurturing dreams to
achieve academic excellence.
In my opinion, parents should motivate their children regularly. But, the
highest need for encouragement arises, when children are afraid of failing or
they wish to try something new.
Parents should tell them that their central focus should be on participation and
giving their best. If children work with determination, dedication and discipline
success would eventually come.
Using their parental instinct, parents can determine when their encouragement
is highly necessary to their children. Of course, children can be outspoken and
ask for encouragement directly from them. But there will always be occasions
when they just don't. For one, in a child's personal life, problematic
relationships between peers can drown them in trouble. In this case, whether
or not children ask for motivations from parents, parents ought to motivate
their children by giving them valuable wisdom at handling conflicts. Another
thing, in a child's academic life, due to the tough competition and
overwhelming pressure, they might just want to give it up. And parents, in this
scenario, must constantly provide them with compliments, all sorts of support,
and encouraging words.
Stimulates
There is no best time for parents to play the cheerleader for their offspring.
Every time is a good time to affirm their trust in the abilities of their wards and
give them pointers as well. Constant encouragement and support are the most
effective as compared to only showing concern when they meet a setback.
Little drops of water make a mighty ocean, they say. Various little
accomplishments and situations such as scoring 3 points higher in an exam,
doing worse in sports are very good times for parents to encourage their
children.
Parents are known as a pillar for their kids as, In every stage of life, children
need inspiration. In my opinion, parents should help their child in their hard
time
2/ what can parents do to encourage their children?
3/ should parents always encourage their children by giving them rewards?
No, they must stop them if they are heading towards a wrong path. For
instance, when a child is using foul language, he/she should be censured at
once by parents. Encouragement is only permissible when children are doing
something that is not inappropriate.
4/ do you think negative feedback is sometimes more important than positive
feedback? Why?
Positive feedback gives us encouragement. We can never deny its importance.
But, negative feedback sobers us and stops us from become narcissists who are
obsessed with our perfections while ignoring our flaws.
