SUMMER INTERNSHIP GUIDING PRINCIPLES (2010-12)

Exploring and nurturing our veiled talents.

April 7, 2011 Sub: Summer Training Guidelines to PGDM (2010-12) Students Dear Student, A time has come to undergo a dedicated training in a professional organization and to apply your knowledge in a real business situation. A Summer Training Programme is an essential component of your course and each one of you must have clarity regarding the objectives of Summer Training to be achieved. After acquiring knowledge of the core management subjects, it is important that students have an exposure to the working environment of the corporate world. This would help you to understand how organizations actually work and you would be able to bridge the gap between your textbook knowledge and the real industry environment. During the process of your training, you are required to identify real-life problems and provide scientific and logical solutions to the industry. To assist you in this process JIMS has a Student Mentor Guide System where in, 22-25 students have been allocated to a faculty and CRMC. You are required to be in regular contact with your Teacher/Mentor Guide and seek guidance wherever necessary. The contact nos. and email id of Mentors has already been given to you The objectives of Summer Training are: 1. To gain first-hand knowledge of the day-to-day operations of the organization; 2. To acquire managerial skills especially related to your area of interest and specialization; and 3. To develop interpersonal relationship with key management personnel in the organization.

The fulfillment of the above objectives along with solutions provided for the problems identified in the organization; have to be documented in the form of a Summer Training Project Report. The guidelines of Project Report is enclosed for your reference and record. The Summer Training Report submitted by you would also have to be presented in the Summer Training Presentation competition Please remember your guide is the person who is supposed to be with you throughout the Summer Internship. Dont hesitate to bring your problems to his/her notice. We wish you all the best for your summer Internship and hope that it would be a wonderful learning experience for each one of you.

CRMC

Role of Faculty Mentor / CRMC Mentoring is a learner-focused relationship. Its aim is to provide an appropriate degree of challenge and support (emotional, technical, and informational) to the students, so that participating teachers can build the competence and confidence to solve the students problems. The Mentor Program affords students an opportunity to learn from experienced policy professionals. The overarching goals of the Mentor Program include: Gaining a better understanding of career paths, professional skill development, goal setting, and an introduction to a professional network. Your Mentor will act as a facilitator to channelize for various difficulties and doubts during the Summer Internship

Your Mentors /CRMC guide offers advice; provides a window into todays business realities within a specific industry sector; share experiences and provide career guidance

Your Mentor/ CRMC guide provides an opportunity for students to develop a mentoring relationship.

Your guide will act as a consultant wherein the role is to act as an information source. It is important to balance support with challenge by providing several suggestions or recommendations from which the learner may choose.

Your guide will act as a collabator wherein the role is to share in planning, decision making, and problem solving of the students. Ideas can be developed in a number of ways, such as through brainstorming or exploring resources, but decisions and choices should be considered and made as a team. Successful collaboration leads to mutual growth, learning, and respect. Your guide acts as a coach, wherein the role is to provide support and encouragement

Following are the Guidelines for the students:

Students are required to meet/call the Mentor every 15 days and take guidance from them personally and professionally. Students are required to mail the weekly report to their respective faculty and CRMC mentors in enclosed format. Students must have one to one meeting with the Mentor to share their problems on an individual basis.

Establish a relationship where you can reach your mentor: by phone, email, fax, or a designated meeting location. Experience proves calling or e-mailing your mentor is usually the best way to make contact. Establish a time and phone number where you can usually answer calls or make contact.

You are required to be in regular contact with your Mentor Guide and seek guidance wherever necessary.

The student is always responsible for initiating contact with mentors. Mentors are extremely busy and may be difficult to reach, so students should be persistent.

Students should prepare for each meeting with their mentors. Note: Summer Training is an accredited activity and due weightage will be given in the end trimester mark sheet Remember your guide is the person who is supposed to be with you through out the preparation of the report. Dont hesitate to bring your problems to his/her notice.
