INTRODUCTION
SUPPLY CHAIN MANAGEMENT
Supply chain management is the handling of the entire production flow of a good or
service — starting from the raw components all the way to delivering the final
product to the consumer. A company creates a network of suppliers (“links” in the
chain) that move the product along from the suppliers of raw materials to those
organizations that deal directly with users.
STAGES OF SUPPLY CHAIN MANAGEMENT
Stage 1: The cows at the dairy farm are milked and the milk is stored in a refrigerated
silo.
Stage 2: The refrigerated tanker then collects the milk from the silo located in the
dairy farm and transports the milk to a processing factory.
Stage 3: The processing factory pasteurizes the milk and is stored in the refrigerated
silos after processing again.
Stage 4: The refrigerated milk is then transported in the refrigerated tanker on road to
the manufacturers of milk.
Stage 5: The manufacturers produce different dairy products from the milk and the
milk is packaged and induced into pallets and into refrigerated trucks.
Stage 6: This is final stage where the milk pallets are transported in refrigerated trucks
to the supermarkets and retail outlets.
The supply chain in milk is started by the process of production, which is started by
the milking of cows in the first stage that includes the use of water and grass. When
we move on to the next stage where the milk is processed by refrigeration, treatment
processing and packaged into pallets in a sustainable and efficient way. The next step
or stage is where the milk in pallets is transported in the refrigerated truck to the
retailers. The final stage is where the consumers or end customers buy the milk from
the retailers or distributors. The key challenges within the supply chain of milk would
be the Milk prices in Retail Competition, Upstream Competition and Downstream
Buyer power and the Bargaining power in the supply chain. This explains that the
bargaining power of the competition between the processors and the individual
processors. Due to less importance to farmers, the processors have been taking
continuous advantage in the supply of milk to the distributors
Merits of supply chain:

COMPONENTS OF SUPPLY CHAIN MANAGEMENT
According to CIO, there are five components of traditional supply chain management
systems:
Planning
Plan and manage all resources required to meet customer demand for a company’s
product or service. When the supply chain is established, determine metrics to
measure whether the supply chain is efficient, effective, delivers value to customers
and meets company goals.
Sourcing
Choose suppliers to provide the goods and services needed to create the product.
Then, establish processes to monitor and manage supplier relationships. Key
processes include: ordering, receiving, managing inventory and authorizing supplier
payments.
Manufacturing
Organize the activities required to accept raw materials, manufacture the product, test
for quality, package for shipping and schedule for delivery.
Delivery and Logistics
Coordinate customer orders, schedule deliveries, dispatch loads, invoice customers
and receive payments.
Returning
Create a network or process to take back defective, excess or unwanted products.
FINDINGS
1. They have more than 100 villages supplying them raw milk

humid as well inside the factory
The tankers the bring their milk should be changed as it was kind of old and
rusted
CONCLUSION
It was a useful experience for us to the industrial visit at Katraj dairy which is in Pune.
We get to learn about a lot of stuffs related to factories and how they are operated
especially milk industries related to how they are milked from a cow till when they
get in the hands of the consumers. From planning of the required raw materials,
demands of the dairy, etc to choosing the farmers from where they get their raw milk,
having a great relation with them, manufacturing of the product after getting the raw
materials through machines and plants, distributing it to the consumers across the
state according to their demands and not only that they get feedbacks on their product
from different peoples which helps them to improve their products
After this we get to learn how components of supply chain management is used on
any types of manufacturing industries. We did not only learn about how milk are
produced but also how the knowledge of supply chain management is effective on
them
