Procedures of data collection:
In order for me to collect all the necessary information needed to
complete my project on the topic of interest. I distributed twenty (20)
printed questionnaires to twenty (20) different persons, randomly who
were selected from a household within the Fountain district on
___________________________ between the hours of 3pm to 5pm. The
distributed questionnaires were collected back on that same given
day. They were distributed evenly among males and females in order
to prevent biasness and lack generalizability. The sample chosen was
relatively small and was selected randomly.6

The graph above is basically showing what percentage are male

that 75% gained most of the respondent's choice, while 10 and 23
percent gained the least.
FIGURE 3: "A histogram showing what percentage is female smokers in
the community."
This graph is basically displaying the approximate percentage of
female smokers within the community. Well from the necessary
information gathered, it shows that 12 of the respondents said that the
average female smokers in the community, is approximately 20%.
Four of the respondents said 50%, three said 10% and the remaining
one said 75%.
Analysis and Interpretation of data:
After distributing twenty printed questionnaires within the Fountain district,
the answers obtained were interpreted and analysed two days after.
In the process of analysing the information, it appeared that majority of the
respondents were around the age of 18 to 25.
In response to question three, "which gender smoke more often?" an amazing
65% responded males. This is because they probably derived from households
where the rate of cigarette smoking is high. The 65% who responded yes,
claimed that smoking do affect them in various ways causing severe coughing,
difficulty breathing etc. •
Question four asked, "With the highest being 1 and 5 the lowest, rank the
cigarette smoking?" fifteen of the respondents said stress, three said hobby,
two said peer pressure and the remaining two said experimental purposes.
Majority of the respondents said peer pressure because of the many street
gangs within the community, and also the rate in which the male sex gender
seems to be carrying themselves; within this, 75% of male smokers are
fathers, teenagers and even school boys, who appears to be at street corners
and rum shops smoking almost everyday of their lives.
On the other hand, in response to question five, "Do you think that most
persons who try to stop smoking succeed?" It appeared that majority of the
respondents responded to no, mainly because they have already adapted the
habit of smoking on a regular basis, so even though they try to stop they end up
failing because they are already addicted. The few who responded to yes said
that they may have succeed due to the fact that they had changed their lives and
living a Christian
live.
In question six which asked, "Who do you think should be held mostly
responsible for cigarette smoking by residents?" 55% said friend, 15% said
school, 10% said home 15% said media and 10% said government while the
remaining 5% said church. It appeared to be that peer pressure which is the
influence placed on someone to do something, is the main reason why many
persone within Fountain tend to arnoko cigarette_ This maybe so because of the many
Minnie gangs, persons within these gangs tend to influence their friends to join
the gang which leads to an adaptation of the activities which goes on within
the gangs.
10
"Do you think cigarette smoking is a growing tendency?" was question 7 Twelve
of the respondents said yes four said no three said yes and the remaining I said
no. Within this 20% of female smokers you'll find mothers who are depressed
and can't seem to find a solution to their problems, you'll also find teenagers and
school girls along the alleys, street corners and road side. Most of the
respondents said that you'll find less female smokers within the village of
Fountain because many females attend counselling and educational programmes
within the community.
Question eight asked, "do you think smoking helps as a solution to problems?"
in going through the answers most of the respondents said no while some of the
respondents said yes.
In response to question nine, some of the solutions put forward by the
respondents damage to the respiratory system which may lead to lung cancer
and also death. Other effects which was stated includes bad breath, brain
damage/memory loss etc.
In response to question ten what level of people smokes those below the poverty
level? Said yes and those above the poverty Level? Said no in response to question
11 mostly 56% said Blacks, 77% said American440/0 said Asians 23%said White.
In question 12 "what are some of the effects of cigarette smoking on the youths
they can get lung censer, delinquent
Finally, in response to question 13 what are some of the possible solutions to
cigarette smoking? Were counselling, create educational programmes and
groups within the community, and also don't sell cigarette to underage children.
Counselling can help in many various ways, such as help setting a mind set on
positive stuffs and help build a high and strong self-esteem. Creating
educational
programmes can help also by teaching/educating the public about their health
and ways which can prevent them from destroying the health
Statement of findings:
According to 10 of the respondents peer pressure is the main
reason/cause of cigarette smoking.
According to 15 of the respondents 75% are male smokers in the
community.
According to 12 of the respondents 20% are female smokers in the
community.
Recommendation and Implementation strategy:
Counselling
Create educational groups
Implementation:
Create educational groups by opening centres where people can
go and be educated on their health and ways to maintain a good
lifestyle and also ways in which they can learn to prevent
damaging their health. Also this can help them develop a strong
mind and help them to encage in positive action.
