There will be only 1 participant per grade level
This game tournament will be held on September 23, 2022 at the Outdoor Stage (Front of the Main Building)
Game Tournament starts promptly after the first part of the Opening Program on the Culmination
The Tower of Hanoi, is an ancient mathematical game or puzzle consisting of three rods and a number of
disks of various diameters, which can slide onto any rod. The puzzle begins with the disks stacked on one
rod in order of decreasing size, the smallest at the top, thus approximating a conical shape. The objective
of the puzzle is to move the entire stack to the last rod, obeying the following rules:
1. Only one disk may be moved at a time.
2. Each move consists of taking the upper disk from one of the stacks and placing it on top of another
stack or on an empty rod.
3. No disk may be placed on top of a disk that is smaller than it.
This competition is ONE or TWO HANDED MODE (in any position of the base may be applied)
Once the disk dropped, the competitor may continue solving the puzzle but he/she not allowed to restart all
the disks.
Once the competitor placed the disk at the wrong peg (and is legal) he/she is allowed to continue to play
unless conceded.
All participants are allowed to solve the puzzle in a fastest possible time.
The first contestant who solved this puzzle game, he/she wins the round game.

RUBIKS CUBE GAME TOURNAMENT
JUNIOR AND SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL CATEGORY
Damath is a two-player educational board game combining the board game "Dama" (Filipino word for
Checkers) and Mathematics. It is used as a teaching tool for both elementary and high school
mathematics. Every piece has a corresponding number and each even (white) square on board has a
mathematical symbol. The game was invented by Jesus L. Huenda. The game is commonly played in all
elementary and secondary schools in the Philippines
The Board and Pieces
The board is similar to a checkerboard but with a twist. All even (white) tiles on the board have a
mathematical symbol which dictates the operation that will be used when a player's piece captures the
opponent's piece. It has numbers labeled 0-7 on its sides to determine the coordinates of the piece. Each
piece of the player has corresponding values depending on what type of damath is being played. Both
board and damath pieces are mostly made of thick cardboard or illustration board.
Standard Damath Board
Mechanics of a Game:
This game tournament is open to all bon a fide Junior and Senior High School students of St. Michael
Academy of Pontevedra, Inc.
For Junior High School Category: There will be only 2 participants per grade level (Board 1 and 2)
For Senior High School Category: There will be only 2 participants per Section (Board 1 and 2)
This game tournament will be held simultaneously on September 23, 2022 at the Function Hall of the School
Game Tournament starts promptly at exactly 9:30 am
Toss a coin to determine which player will have the first 'move'.
Numbered Chips using 1 to 12 will be used for a game
Moving a chip means sliding it diagonally in the forward direction only except when taking an opponent's
chip or if a 'dama' chip takes an opponent's chip.
The two players alternately take turns in moving a chip (pass is not allowed). · A player who touches a chip
('touch move') is required to move unless it is not possible to do so.
After each 'move', a player has to record his or her 'move' in a score sheet (only one score sheet will be
used by the two players).
Each player is allotted one minute per 'move' including the recording of the 'move' and the corresponding
score in the scoresheet. In as much as taking a chip or chips is mandatory, then the one-minute per 'move'
does not apply in this situation. In taking an opponent's chip, the 'taker' chip jumps over the 'taken' chip and
uses any of the four operation symbols of +, -, x, and -:- where the taker chip lands.
A chip is declared 'dama' if it stops in any of the following squares of the opposing player: (1,0) (3,0) (5,0)
(7,0) Similarly, the opposing player's chip is declared 'dama' if it stops in any of the following squares: (0,7)
(2,7) (4,7) (6,7) · A 'dama' chip can slide diagonally forward or backward in any unoccupied square as long
as no opponent's chip blocks its path. It could take a chip or chips whereby its corresponding sum,
difference, product or quotient is doubled. Similarly, if an ordinary chip takes an opponent's 'dama' chip, its
score is also doubled. Correspondingly, if a 'dama' chip takes an opponent's 'dama' chip, then its score is
quadrupled. · A 'taker' chip can take one chip or more than
one chips with the required option to take the greater number of chips. · Between "a 'dama' chip taking an
opponent's chip" and "a chip taking an opponent's chip", the former prevails. · A 'taker' or 'taken dama' chip
should be identified by encircling it in the scoresheet.
The game ends if: the 20-minute game period lapsed; · the moves are repetitive; ·a player has no more
chips to move; · an opponent's chip is 'cornered'.
The remaining chip or chips of the players are to be added to their respective scores. If the remaining chip
is a 'dama', then its score is also doubled.
The player with the greater accumulated total score wins the game.

CHESS GAME TOURNAMENT
JUNIOR AND SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL CATEGORY
Mechanics of a Game:
This game tournament is open to all bon a fide Junior and Senior High School students of St. Michael
Academy of Pontevedra, Inc.
For Junior High School Category: There will be only 2 participants per grade level (Board 1 and 2)
For Senior High School Category: There will be only 2 participants per section (Board 1 and 2)
This game tournament will be held simultaneously on September 23, 2022 at the Function Hall of the School
Game Tournament starts promptly at exactly 9:30 am
Toss a coin to determine which player will have the first 'move'.
Chess Game Rules
Basic rules
Chess is a two-player game, where one player is assigned white pieces and the other black. Each player
has 16 pieces to start the game: one king, one queen, two rooks, two bishops, two knights and eight
pawns.
Aim of the game
The object of the game is to capture the other player's king. This capture is never actually completed, but
once a king is under attack and unable to avoid capture, it is said to be checkmated and the game is over.
Start of the game
The game is started in the position shown below on a chess board consisting of 64 squares in an 8x8 grid.
The White player moves first. Then each player takes a single turn. In fact, a player must move in turn. In
other words a move cannot be skipped.
Playing the game
A move consists of placing one piece on a different square, following the rules of movement for that piece.
A player can take an opponent's piece by moving one of his or her own pieces to the square that contains
an opponent's piece. The opponent's piece is removed from the board and is out of play for the rest of the
game.
Check
If a King is threatened with capture, but has a means to escape, then it is said to be in check. A King
cannot move into check, and if in check must move out of check immediately. There are three ways you
may move out of check:
• Capture the checking piece
• Block the line of attack by placing one of your own pieces between the checking piece and the King.
(Of course, a Knight cannot be blocked.)
• Move the King away from check.
Checkmate
The primary objective in chess is to checkmate your opponent's King. When a King cannot avoid capture
then it is checkmated and the game is immediately over.
Stalemate
The game is drawn when the player to move has no legal move and his king is not in check. The game is
said to end in 'stalemate'. This immediately ends the game.
Time control
A regular chess clock is used to limit the length of a game. These clocks count the time that each player
separately takes for making his own moves. The rules are very simple, if you run out of time, you lose the
game, and thus must budget your time.
Special moves
Castling
If the necessary conditions are met, a king and rook can move simultaneously in a castling move. The
conditions are as follows:
• The king that makes the castling move has not yet moved in the game.
• The rook that makes the castling move has not yet moved in the game.
• The king is not in check
• The king does not move over a square that could be attacked by an enemy piece; i.e., when
castling, there may be no enemy piece that can move (diagonally, in the case of pawns) to a square
that will be passed over by the king. In short, you cannot castle through check.
• The king does not move to a square that could be attacked by an enemy piece; i.e., you may not
end the castling with the king in check.
• All squares between the rook and king before the castling move must be empty.
When castling, the king moves two squares toward the rook, and the rook moves over the king to the next
square; i.e., white's king on e1 and rook on a1 move to: king c1, rook d1 (long castling); white's king on e1
and rook on h1 move to: king g1, rook f1 (short castling). The move is similar for black.
En Passant
A pawn, attacking a square crossed by an opponent's pawn which has [just] been advanced two squares in
one move from its original square, may capture this opponent's pawn as though the latter had been moved
only one square. This capture may only be made in [immediate] reply to such an advance, and is called an
"en passant" capture.
Pawn promotion
On reaching the last rank, a pawn must immediately be exchanged, as part of the same move, for [either] a
queen, a rook, a bishop, or a knight, of the same colour as the pawn, at the player's choice and without
taking into account the other pieces still remaining on the chessboard. The effect of the promoted piece is
immediate and permanent!
End of the game
Winning
The game is won by the player
• who has checkmated his opponent's king.
• whose opponent declares he resigns.
Draw
The game is drawn when the king of the player who has the move is not in check, and this player cannot
make any legal move. The player's king is then said to be "stalemated". This immediately ends the game.
The game is drawn upon agreement between the two players.
The game is drawn when one of the following endings arises:
• king against king;
• king against king with only bishop or knight;
• king and bishop against king and bishop, with both bishops on diagonals of the same colour.
The player to move can claim a draw if
• the same position with the same player to move is repeated three times in the game
• there are have been 50 consecutive moves of white and of black without
o any piece taken
o any pawn move
Losing
The game is lost by a player who has not completed the prescribed number of moves in the allotted time,
unless his opponent has only the king remaining, in which case the game is drawn .
