Histogram Graph: A histogram is a

graphical representation of data points organized

into user-specified ranges.
A histogram is a graph that shows the frequency
of numerical data using rectangles.

Example 1: The following table gives the lifetime of 400

neon lamps. Draw the histogram for the below data.

Lifetime (in hours) Number of lamps

300 – 400 14

400 – 500 56
500 – 600 60

600 – 700 86

700 – 800 74

800 – 900 62

900 – 1000 48
Example 2: In a mathematics test of 100 marks. Few
students got under 20 marks and a few got 70 marks or
above. Group them into intervals of varying sizes as
follows:
Marks Number of Students
0−10 4
10−20 7
20−30 10
30−40 10
40−50 20
50−60 20
60−70 15
70-80 8
Total 90
Stem And Leaf Graph:
A Stem and Leaf Plot is a special table where
each data value is split into a "stem" (the first digit
or digits) and a "leaf" (usually the last digit).
For e.g"32" is split into "3" (stem) and "2" (leaf).
• It gives a concise representation of data.
• The data are grouped and all the original data are
shown.
• Does not work well for very large data sets.

Example 1: Construct a stem-and-leaf plot for the

following set of data:
{28 13 26 12 20 14 21 16 17 22
17 25 13 30 13 22 15 21 18 16 21 18 31 15 19}

Stem Leaf

2 011122568
3 01
Example 2: A teacher asked 10 of her students
how many books they had read in the last
12 months. Their answers were as follows:
12, 23, 19, 6, 10, 7, 15, 25, 21, 12
