Steps for Installing Cake Printers
1) Install new printer, connect power and network, the network
cable MUST BE in a switch port on VLAN25, then turn on printer
2) Obtain IP address of new printer using above instructions
3) Ask associate to bring up SMART login on nearby terminal
a) NOTE: If the terminal window times out at any time during
this install, you will need the SAME associate to log you
back in so you can pick up where you left off.
4) Log on to SMART terminal as user: rollouts - Password: R011ouT
5) Select: “Thin Client”
6) Select: “Install Network Devices”
7) Select: “Printer Installation Menu”
8) Select: “Install”
9) Select: “Install Printer Not Using Queue”
10) Select: “Dynamic DHCP - New VLAN25 - Not Using Queue”
11) Select: “cakepr0X Cake Printers”
12) Select: “cakepr01 Cake Printer 1”
13) Enter the IP Address for cakepr01 at the prompt, and if it
is a valid IP address, the script will respond with something
similar to this:

The current hostname for “The IP Address you entered” is:

ZBR5924362.sXXXXX.wal-mart.com  XXXXX represents store #
You are about to change the hostname to: cakepr01
Do you want to continue? [y/n]

14) At the above prompt, type: y and then hit Enter to continue
15) Repeat steps 12 thru 13 above for cakepr02 (if required)
16) The printer will reboot, wait until it is back up to
continue the remaining steps
17) Select “PrinterStats” to see if your Cake printers are
showing a Status of “UP” on the network on VLAN25. Refer to
“Figure 1” for an example of how this will look on the SMART
terminal and the Troubleshooting Tips if it doesn’t show a
Status of UP, or if you have issues getting the hostname
assigned. Once the Cake printers show UP, follow the steps
below to send a test print job to each of them.
18) Select: “TestPrint”
19) Validate the test job did print on each Cake printer.
a) NOTE: This only validates the printer is on the network and
working from the SMART system. It will still need to be
setup and validated from the application.
20) Select: Exit
21) Press “F3” a couple of times to exit session

Troubleshooting Tips
1) This printer install script will ensure the printer IP Address
entered is a valid IP address, and it is on VLAN25. If the IP
address is not on VLAN25, this program will report what the
first 3 octets of the IP Address of VLAN25 are. Then you will
know until the IP address being pulled by the printer begins
with those first 3 octets, it is not on the right VLAN.
2) If the IP address provided is not valid, or on the network,
then this program cannot set the hostname on the printer.
Please ensure the printer is pulling an IP address before
continuing. If it is pulling an IP, and it isn’t on VLAN25, as
stated above, this program will report what the IP address
should begin with to assist in getting it on the right VLAN.
3) If the IP address provided is on the network, but it is not a
printer and/or it is not a Zebra (or Lexmark) printer, then
this program will not attempt to set the hostname. Although
this Install script works with Zebra and Lexmark printers,
only Zebra printers were approved to be used as Cake printers.
4) After selecting “PrinterStats”, If a Cake printer does not
show Status “UP”, Press <Enter> to continue, and select
“PrinterStats” again for a refreshed view. This step can be
done at anytime to refresh the view.
5) If the Cake printer still does not show Status “UP”, Press
<Enter> to continue, and validate the IP Address shown for
that specific Cake printer matches the IP Address that was
pulled from the printers network setup page printed earlier.
a) If the IP address is correct, try powering the printer off
and back on, then when the printer display says “Ready”,
check “PrinterStats” again.
b) If the IP Address is not correct, Select the Cake printer
from the menu again to reinstall with correct IP Address.
6) If the Cake printer still is not showing Status “UP”, ensure
there is a link light on the network card where the network
cable is plugged into the printer.
a) If there is no link light, troubleshoot the cable and switch
port.
b) If there is a link light, reprint the network setup page and
validate the printer IP address is getting defined. The
printer IP address should begin with the first 3 octets of
the VLAN25 network, which this program will report to you if
the address entered is not on the VLAN25 network.
