ACTIVITY: 3 – DAY DISTRICT-BASED TRAINING AND UPSKILLING OF KEY STAGE 1 TEACHERS AND
SCHOOL HEADS IN LANGUAGE LITERACY AND NUMERACY (ELLN) IN THE DISTRICT
DIVISION: LEYTE
DATE: AUGUST 10-12, 2022
VENUE: ALBUERA NORTH CENTRAL SCHOOL CONFERENCE HALL, ALBUERA, LEYTE
DURATION: THREE (3) DAYS
PARTICIPANTS:
ALBUERA NORTH DISTRICT GRADE 1 TO 3 TEACHERS AND SCHOOL HEADS
PROGRAM OBJECTIVES:
The objectives of the training and upskilling, all key stage 1 and school heads shall be able to:
1. Strengthen the teachers’ capacity to teach and assess reading and numeracy skills;
2. Boost the knowledge in teaching reading and numeracy;
3. Learn the different strategies and approaches to be use in teaching reading to learners
especially during the limited face-to-face-classes;
4. Help the teachers on how to deal learners in a positive way.
GENERAL COMMENTS AND ISSUES ENCOUNTERED:
The training-workshop was a big success and no disruptions/untoward incident happened.
NARRATIVE:
The Department of Education (DepEd) Early Language Literacy and Numeracy Program (ELLN)
focuses on capacitating the Kindergarten to Grade 3 teachers and instructional leaders on the basic
knowledge and pedagogical skills in literacy and Numeracy having a common goal which is to make
every K to 3 learners is a good reader and numerate.

In response to the call, the Albuera North District conducted the 3-DAY District-Based Training
and Upskilling of Key Stage 1 Teachers and School Heads in Language Literacy and Numeracy (ELLN) in
the District, last August 10-12, 2022 at Albuera North Central School, Conference Hall, Albuera, Leyte.

The topics for Day 1 were Pre-Reading and During Reading, Post Reading, Differentiated
Instruction, Explicit Teaching and Comprehensive Rapid Language Assessment. It was
discussed/facilitated by the excellent and brilliant speakers. The participants attentively listened.

On the second day, another set of topics were discussed. The Phonological Awareness,
Vocabulary development, Two-Track Method, Fuller’s Approach and Administration of Regional
Numeracy Test. The participants were required to make their outputs based on those topics.

On the third day of the training, was still the continuation of other relevant topics. The
Marungko Approach, Phil-IRI, Early Grades Reading Assessment and Action Plan Preparation. The
participants actively shared their ideas and raised queries for clarification. They are also asked to make
outputs.
The giving of impressions of selected teachers, giving of awards and certificates to the
participants and facilitators were successfully done during the Closing Program. The three-day training
was really a big success!
