Lab 2 Diffusion I KMnO4

The student conducted an experiment to observe the diffusion of potassium manganate (KMnO4) crystals in water. They measured out 10cm of water in a beaker and added KMnO4 crystals using a straw. Over time, the crystals dissolved and caused the water to take on a purple color as the KMnO4 particles diffused through the liquid. Diagrams showed the mixture before, during, and after diffusion was complete. In their conclusion, the student stated that there must be millions of tiny particles in each KMnO4 crystal that continue to divide into smaller particles.

DATE: September 22, 2022
TOPIC: MATTER
AIM: To observe diffusion of a solid in liquid
MATERIALS/EQUIPMENTS
 Measuring cylinder, Beaker, straw, Water (H2O), Potassium manganate (KMnO4)
PROCEDURES:
1. Measures 10cm of water.
2. Strew was placed with potassium inside.
3. Droped water slowely to it make effect.
OBSERVATIONS:

DIAGRAM BEFORE DIFFUSION (A), DURING DIFFUSION (B) AND AFTER DIFFUSION IS
COMPLETED(C)
DISCUSSION:
Reaction of KMno4 Cyrstales and H2o on beacjer form a purpul coler solution.Solution is dov high to
low concertration region.

LIMITATIONS/ERRORS:
1. If the water is disturbed then diffusion will have been altered and the
experimenter will not be able to have an accurate observation of diffusion
CONCLUSION:
_the must be million of tiny particles in just one crystal of KMno4 which keep on dividing them self
into smaller particules

REFLECTION: leads to diffusion of postassuim permange in
