What is strategic management?

• The analysis, planning, implementing and control of long term business goals
/objectives, and strategies with environmental fit.
• A set of decisions and actions to formulate and implement strategies that will
provide a competitive superior fit between the organization and its environment
so as to achieve business objectives.
• The activities associated with planning including setting goals, objective,
developing plans and achieving them.
• A process used to help managers answer strategic questions such as:
üWhere is the organization now?
üWhere does the organization want to be?
üWhat changes and trends are occurring in the business
external environment?
• The art of formulating, implementing, and evaluating cross-
functional decisions that enable an organization to achieve its objectives.
