USB Memory

USB flash drives, also known as pen drives or thumb drives, are portable storage devices that connect to computers and other devices via a USB port. They can store files, documents, photos, and other multimedia content. Flash drives use non-volatile flash memory and have no moving parts, making them resistant to physical damage. Storage capacities have increased significantly over time, from early models that stored 8-32 MB to today's drives that can hold 1 TB or more. While cloud storage is increasingly popular, flash drives still offer advantages of physical portability and private, encrypted storage of files.

USB memory, pen drive or USB

flash drive.
Apart from the pen drive there are many other types of storage units:

 internal drives: mechanicalhard drives or SSD

 external drives: Pen Drives, SD cards, orexternalhard drives

¿What is it?
It is a type of mass storage unit that connects through a USB (hence its name). It can be connected to
all kinds of oedenators or other electronic devices, from mobile phones to televisions or consoles,
through its connector. The information that is entered modified millions of times during its useful life.

They are resistant to scratches, dust and some to water. In addition, its useful life is quite long
compared to other electronic devices, approximately 20 years.
Its capacities and data transmission speeds depend on each of the models, memories ranging from
1GB to 1TB can be easily found on the market. The more memory, the more the flash drive costs.

¿what is it for?
its mission is to allow data to be stored on a portable device and a content size, to carry documents or
multimedia files to read them on any computer, to introduce multimedia files that you can then use in
players, it can also be used to save backup copies and to install another operating system on the
computer,

Operating systems
Current operating systems can read and write to memory simply by plugging it into a USB connector of
the computer turned on, receiving power through the connector itself. Others external storage devices
similar to memory sticks are SD-type cards (mini-SD, micro-SD), CompactFlash, etc. These devices
need special readers installed on the computer:
Securecard (SD card): An SD card is a memory card that can be inserted into a device in order to
increase the device's available storage.
Its a tiny flash memory card designed for high-capaity memory and andvarious portable devices, such
as car navigation sistem, celular phones, e-books, smartphones, digital cameras, music players, digital
video cam corders and personal computers.
compact flash: is a memory card format that uses flash memory technology to store data on a
verysmall portable device. It has no moving mechanical parts and does not need a battery to retain
data. Both ofthem need special readers installed on the computer

History of pen drive

In the year 2000, the companies Trek Technology and IBM were the first to bring the first USB
memory to the market. Each company released one separately. The company Trek Technogy released
a USB memory called Thumbdrive and the company IBM released a model of USB memory called
DiskOnKey.
The company in charge of designing and creating the first USB memory was M-Systems, an Israeli
company that created a Pendrive with a memory capacity of between 8, 16 and 32 Mb. If we compare
them with today's capacity, it is nothing , but by then it was a revolution.
Thanks to the success of USB flash drives, 3.5-inch floppy disks became history as a storage tool in
both companies and home computers. A high-density floppy disk was 1.44 MB in size.
The first USB devices used batteries to be able to operate, since they still did not use the computer
itself as a source of energy to be able to operate, later this changed. Today the Pendrive uses the same
USB connector as a power source.
Over time, the storage capacity of the USB memory has multiplied in a surprising way.

Pendrive USB vs cloud o nube

Currently, there is a strong debate about whether these devices have a future, since there are now
other more innovative options and they present ideal options for storage. Now, we can use the Cloud
as a network storage system, that is, we can have a place to store all the information without the need
to use a physical device.
The pendrive has the advantages that we have the physical support and it is not found on any other
server for private use. In addition to being able to encrypt it with additional software and always keep
it safe. While the cloud comes in handy to access your information from any device.
