ACTIVITY 2: Introduction to Human Computer
Interaction
Duration: 2 Hours
Learning Outcomes
This Tutorial encompasses activities 2A.
By the end of this tutorial session, you should be able to:
1. Explain the role of ergonomics in interface design 2.
Describe Models Of Interaction:
a. Norman’s execution-evaluation cycle
b. The interaction framework
Activity 2A
Answer all the questions.
1. Identify the meaning or ergonomics :
To determine the optimum size, shape and form of a product, and make it easier for
people to use.
2. Match the examples of ergonomics issues with its suitable definition.
Arrangement of Use of red for warning, green for okay,
controls and awareness of colour-blindness etc
displays
Surrounding Seating arrangements adaptable to cope
environment with all sizes of user
Health issues Controls grouped according to function
or frequency of use, or sequentially
Use of color Physical position, environmental
conditions (temperature, humidity),
lighting, noise
3. Fill in the blank of Norman’s Execution-Evaluation Cycle in Figure 1 below:
Figure 1
4. Identify factors in Execution phase and Evaluation phase of Norman’s
ExecutionEvaluation Cycle.
Execution Phase Evaluation Phase
Goal Perceiving
Intention Interpreting
Specifiying the action sequence Evaluation
Executing the action
5. List the advantages and the disadvantages of Norman’s Execution-Evaluation
Cycle.
Advantages:
An intuitive and easy means of understanding the interaction
Disadvantages:
Concentrates only on the user’s view of interaction
6. In Abowd and Beale Interaction Framework, there have four parts that are: User,
Input, System and Output. Fill in the blank those parts in the Figure 2 below:
