lengths. Mark the ceiling with plumb to F.C.
and fix ceiling channels with self-expansion
screws.

 Place & fasten the F.C. with self-expansion

screws at every 600mm centers on 50mm
face of channel.

 The height needs to be checked for each
individual panel before inserting, follow the
same method for all panels.

 Clean the floor channels, tongue and groove

portion of panels for firm fixing.

 Lift & keep the 600mm side of panel parallel to

floor. Keep the groove side of panel towards wall
or column end.

 Insert the panel by tilting it into ceiling channel

first and then position the same from 14mm side

5.2 Aerocon Panel Jointing Procedure for RE (Reccess Edge Panels)

TOOLS:
For SmartGlu & Smartflex application : Use only Flexible Steel Knife
For leveling with wall-putty : Use Ordinary Putty knife

STEP-1: Applying Jointing compound on T&G

Product Used: SmartGlu (Water-miscible Powder)
PREPARATION OF SMARTGLU: Mix SmartGlu in 70%
water (or as required for desired workability) Make a
slurry.
METHOD: Application by Brush on Both Tongue &
Groove side & Immediately fix the Panels.

Updated: Aug 2017 PageI9

PRODUCT MANUAL: AEROCON PANEL PARTITION WALL

STEP-2: INFILL Step

Product Used: SmartGlu (Water-miscible Powder)
PREPARATION OF SMARTGLU: Mix SmartGlu in 35-40%
water (or as required for desired workability) to
prepare a non-flowing paste.
METHOD: Fill the paste tightly into the grooves, as well
as the recessed area, duly flashed with panel surfaces.
Infill Setting Interval before Next Step: 60 minutes.

NOTE:
Local TOUCH-UP - if any required: After setting, inspect
and wherever required fill up shrunk area if any, to
uniformly flash with panel surface.
Touch-up Setting Interval before Next Step: 30 minutes

STEP-3: RECESS TAPING (60mm)

Product Used: SmartFlex White Paste AND

SmartPoly 60-mm Tape

METHOD: Paste SmartPoly 60mm tape (over dried-up

SmartGlu) by using ready to use SmartFlex as an
adhesive paste.
Immediately carry on to overcoat tightly - just in order
to uniformly wetting the SmartPoly 60mm tape.
Consume no extra material.

Setting Interval before Next Step: 30 minutes, or till

touch dry.
NOTE: If the material feels tight, OR in very dry/hot
situations, may add 5-10 (five to ten)% external water -
if required.

Updated: Aug 2017 P a g e I 10

PRODUCT MANUAL: AEROCON PANEL PARTITION WALL

STEP-4: 2nd Layer Taping (16mm)

Product Used: SmartFlex White Paste AND

SmartPoly 16-mm Tape

METHOD: Paste & tightly wet SmartPoly 16mm tape

with SmartFlex as an adhesive paste (In very dry/hot
situations can add 5(five)% water if required).
Immediately carry on to overcoat tightly - just in order
to wet the SmartPoly 60mm tape uniformly. Remove
any extra deposition or spills.

Setting Interval before Next Step: Allow dry & shrink

for minimum 3 (three) hours – no upper limit of
interval.

STEP-5: Shrink Compensation Coat

Product Used: SmartFlex White Paste

Method: Apply a Tight coat of SmartFlex – Just enough

to re-wet the shrinkage, and no more - all along the
SmartPoly 16mm tape already fixed. Remove any extra
deposition or spills.

Setting Interval before Next Step: At least 2 hours, no

upper limit.

NOTE: At this stage Joints will look like about 0.5-1 (half
to one) mm thick lines - raised above the original panel
surface.

Updated: Aug 2017 P a g e I 11

PRODUCT MANUAL: AEROCON PANEL PARTITION WALL

STEP-6: FINAL FINISHING STEP = Seamless LEVELING:

(IT IS MOST IMPORTANT TO FOLLOW EXACTLY AS
EXPLAINED BELOW. DO NOT APPLY THICK WALL PUTTY
OVERCOAT LAYER AS PER CONVENTIONAL PRACTICE.
BECAUSE ANY THICKER THAN REQUIRED WALLPUTTY
WILL EVENTUALLY CRACK OVER THE RESILIENT JOINT).
Product Used: Ordinary White Cement based Wall-
putty typically 800gms/Sq
METHOD: Level out seamlessly using ordinary powder
wall-putty – carefully to the thickness of raised-up
Jointing line. Do not overbuild.
Putty Coats:
A) Ordinary leveling: 1 or 2 passes are fine.
B) Best Level-5 type finish: For such finest finish,
local touch-up coats are usually applied (usually
after 24 hours shrinkage time) on various parts
of Panel surface by skilled workmen. This is a
standard method for fine finishing like applied
for any construction - and not specific to Panels
or Joints.

Final Sanding with #300 grade fine sandpaper.

INSPECT & ENSURE: After final sanding Joints MUST be
seamlessly smooth & perfectly plain leveled. At the
same time a dark impression line MUST remain visible.
This impression after final sanding signifies correct
jointing & leveling.

NOTES:
- inadequate level filling over the panel surfaces out of
putty-shrinkage. This is normally supposed to be
inspected and taken care next day, before painting.
- conventionally, for fine finish (level-5 type), a 2nd &
sometimes even 3rd coat local finish with thin putty
coats are customary at the descretion of painter.
Similarly like paint makers, it is neither
possible, nor expected, from smartbond end to define
final finishing. It falls purely under the skillset of
concerned painter.

All skilled painters know above standard practices.

Updated: Aug 2017 P a g e I 12

PRODUCT MANUAL: AEROCON PANEL PARTITION WALL

JOINT PRIMING: When dry, directly apply 2 coats of

raw (i.e. undiluted) water-based primer - only along the
visible lines - at 1 hour interval to visually cover joint
mark. Use a soft hair 2” brush.

When fully dry, smoothen the brush/roller marks (if

any) with #320 sandpaper.

NB: Strictly no more putty application after this and

before painting.
Recommended Painting Procedure
Apply primer and paint on whole surface as per normal
good practices.
NOTES FOR PAINTER: The surface is already leveled; do
not apply any more Wall-Putty layer.
A GLOSSY PAINT IN ANY INSTALLATION - WHETHER
PANEL OR NOT - NEEDS FINER LEVELING AND SANDING
WITH #300 GRADE SANDPAPER FOR BEST FINISH.
(NOTE: Gloss brings out very minor undulations visible
even on block walls.)

Avoid any cement based thick rendering or texturing

because these are crack-prone non-resilient materials –
unfit for Panel/Board joints.

PANEL TO PANEL/WALL PARTITION CORNER JOINTS:

If joint gap is less than 2mm, fill with SMARTPOLY + SMARTFLEX. Use a corner knife or finger. If gap is 2-3mm, use
standard jointing method. In both cases lay tape in L shape with joint in the center. Level as described.

MANAGING TERMINAL GAP JOINT WITH CONCRETE, WOOD AND CONSTRUCTION STEEL MATERIALS:
 Fill and finish terminal gaps up to 3mm wide with SMARTPOLY + SMARTFLEX. Use a corner knife or finger
 If Terminal gap is between 4mm to 11mm wide, add equal qty of ordinary sand to SMARTGLU and fill. Finish
with 30-40mm wide SMARTPOLY tape (available on request) and SMARTFLEX compound
 If Terminal gap is between 12mm to 25mm wide, further add 6mm downgraded stone chips and fill. Finish on
both side edges with 16mm wide SMARTPOLY tape and SMARTFLEX compound.
If the gap is more than 25mm wide, prepare 1:3:6 cement-sand-chip mortar duly adding 12% (by wt. of cement in mix)
SBR mortar and fill using masonry method. Hydration cure. After 3-4 days, apply SMARTPOLY + SMARTFLEX skin on both
side edges of the concrete fill. Finally finish with 0.5mm thick flashing wall-putty similarly like standard Joint Leveling
