Form - CWTS102 Essay #2-SUYAT

The student essay analyzes the story of Mang Deolito, who was unable to attend school as a child because he had to work numerous jobs to support his family financially. This prevented him from learning to read and write properly. Though he continued working hard, Deolito was eventually able to enroll in a position as a forest guard, where he had a successful career. However, he still could not write and had to rely on his wife to pass a promotion exam. The reflection notes that poverty greatly impacts children's access to education in the Philippines, and that while Deolito showed great tenacity, more government support is needed so that all children can go to school and have brighter futures.

COURSE / SECTION: CWTS102- A74
ACTIVITY TITLE: Case Analysis
CASE STORY TITLE: No Read, No Write: Story of MangDeolito

Conflict Identification
The story of Mang Deolito have a big conflict about him being unable to go to
school. He went into different kind of jobs at the delicate age of ten in order to provide
assistance for his younger siblings and his parents. His morning job is a kargador at the
nearby hacienda, which allows him to sell various types of crops in the community
market, and his nights are spent working as a farmer at a nearby farm. There seem to be
numerous things that he does for money, but this prevents him from attending school and
learning how to read and write properly. He is also frustrated since his parents are
prioritizing his younger brothers when it comes to getting an education.

Plan of Action
In the meantime, he continued to work hard to support his family and promised
himself that he would go to school on his own terms. When Deolito had gathered the
strength and resources to do so, he decided to take a chance and apply for a position as
a forest guard at the Freeport Zone of Subic Bay. Deolito has been employed by the
organization for more than a decade as a result of some good fortune and sustained
effort. From that day forward, he had a successful career and a fulfilling work, but he still
couldn't write and had to rely on his wife to pass an exam for a promotion.

Reflection
In the Philippines, poverty has a significant impact on the probability of a child
getting an education. There are many children who are compelled to labor from an early
age in order to contribute to their family's financial well-being. A large number of children
in our country continue to struggle with this type of problem because our local
governments do not provide adequate support. As a matter of policy, our government
should deal with this issue since children should be educated in order to have a brighter
future. However, on the positive note, Deolito possesses a strong sense of tenacity,
which has enabled him to acquire greater fortune. It is certain that we will face many
difficulties during our lives; yet, we must remain resilient and keep pushing ourselves to
achieve greater success.
