Course Description (Goals and Objectives)

We all know than in digital communications the electronics elements communicate using binary arithmetic. Basic
Electronics is one of the important core subjects, in the field of Electronics, Telecommunication, Electrical,
Computer Science, Information Science and Mechanical Engineering. The course will teach you how to design
circuits that use this binary arithmetic and how simple Boolean algebra plays a crucial role in the design of these
circuits.

The course introduces the concepts and fundamentals of Electronic devices, Digital circuit fundamentals, Principles
of digital electronics, signal transmission in communication systems and Boolean algebra fundamentals.

The objective of the course is to understand the efficacy of Electronic principles which are pervasive in engineering
applications.

Discussion Board Participation: 10%
Assignments: 90%
100%
*Students can check their point total through the Course Menu in Blackboard at any time by clicking Tools>My
Grades.

This course can be taken as part of the Embedded Computer Software certificate. In order for the class to count
towards your certificate it must be taken for a letter grade or as pass/no pass. Classes that are taken as NFC cannot
count towards a certificate. You can change your grading option any time BEFORE the last day of class through My
Extension.

90 points (90% of grade)

I expect a 1-2-page paper for this assignment with references if appropriate for the assignment. The assignment is
due by 11:59pm on Wednesday of the specified week posted on Canvas.

Assignments are to be saved in Microsoft Word as a .doc file. Please name them as week1-lastname.doc and use
the Assignment tool within Canvas. When you click on the assignment name in the Assignments area, you will see
the assignment directions. Under that is a link to complete the assignment. Click this and then you’ll see a Browse
button, click this, and locate your assignment (the Word document) on your computer and open it. This will upload
your assignment. Click submit when you are done uploading it. I believe you will learn most from this course from
the Assignments, so they are 80% of your grade.

Netiquette
In an online course, the majority of our communication takes place in the course forums. However, when we
have a need for communication that is private, whether personal, interpersonal, or professional, we will use
individual email or telephone. Our primary means of communication is written. The written language has many
advantages: more opportunity for reasoned thought, more ability to go in-depth, and more time to think through
an issue before posting a comment. However, written communication also has certain disadvantages, such a lack

of the face-to-face signaling that occurs through body language, intonation, pausing, facial expressions, and
gestures. As a result, please be aware of the possibility of miscommunication and compose your comments in a
positive, supportive, and constructive manner.
