Department of English
Undergraduate Program: B. A. in English
Course Outline
Course Overview
This is the first course in the Advanced Grammar and Academic English: Writing
specialization, and it is a more advanced writing course that gives emphasis on the different
parts of grammar. In this course, the grammar part will provide students with a comprehensive
review of the grammar and writing skills necessary to be successful in their academic and
professional life. Learning how to properly use English grammar will not only help them excel
in writing academic essays and passing entrance exams, but more importantly, it will help them
improve their everyday, work-related writing and email correspondence. Divided up into 24
easy-to-understand lessons, this grammar course concentrates on usage, the mechanics of a
sentence, spelling, and a general review of grammatical problem areas. Each lesson focuses on
frequent errors, illustrates concepts with real-world examples, suggests strategies, and provides
review worksheets, activities, and assignments to ensure skill mastery. Lessons also offer
additional study guides for further learning. This course is ideal for all types of students who
want to get an edge on taking a high school, college, or job-related English exam--as well as
anyone wishing to update and improve their grammar and writing skills. It will help students
raise the level of their writing and make them more aware of the type of writing they can expect
at an academic level. They will learn what a thesis statement is, and how it is used in a sentence.
In the Advanced Writing Course, students will write different types of essays and expand
various writing skills including error correction, grammar usage, punctuation usage, style,
summarizing, and paraphrasing. The course will help students to improve their ability to write
different types of essays and fine-tune their writing skills. A variety of writing concepts and
techniques are illustrated to guide you in developing clearer, more organised writing. Also,
They will have the chance to practice effective revision of their work with the guidance of their
tutor.

Introduction
This first week’s lesson plan focuses on empowering students to know about sentences and
their uses in sentences. The lesson plan also enables them to reconstruct their ideas by writing.
There are two reference books to guide them. Sentences are just the source of expressing human
emotions. While a student is writing, s/he should give more emphasis on sentence structure.
