Define control volume and control surface.
A closed volume drawn within a finite region of the flow. This volume is defines
as a control volume, V.
2 2 CO1 U
The closed surface which bounds the volume. The control volume may be
fixed in space with the fluid moving through it; it is define as a control surface,
S.

What is finite volume method?
The finite volume method is a method for solving partial differential equations
7 like the Navier-Stokes equations in the form of algebraic equations. The 2 CO1 R
physical parameters are approximated at discrete nodes surrounded by finite
volumes within the problem domain.
8 Write the equation of momentum in steady state. 2 CO1 R
List out the use of FVM and FDM
The FVM is a numerical method used to evaluate elliptic, parabolic or
hyperbolic partial differential equations in the form of algebraic equations, on
the basis of conservation laws.
9 2 CO1 R
In telecommunications, frequency-division multiplexing (FDM) is a technique
by which the total bandwidth available in a communication medium is divided
into a series of non-overlapping frequency bands, each of which is used to
carry a separate signal.
What is the fundamental governing equation of fluid dynamics?

Define well-posed problems.
In the solution of partial differential equations it is sometimes easy to attempt a
solution using incorrect or insufficient boundary and initial conditions. Whether
the solution is being attempted analytically or numerically, such an ‘ill-posed’
problem will usually lead to spurious results. Therefore, we define a well-posed
11 2 CO1 R
problem as follows: If the solution to a partial differential equation exists and is
unique, and if the solution depends continuously upon the initial and boundary
conditions, then the problem is well-posed. In CFD, it is important that you
establish that your problem is well-posed before you attempt to carry out a
numerical solution.

What are the Advantages of CFD over EFD?
15 2 CO1 R
Substantial reduction of lead times and costs of new designs.
Ability to study systems where controlled experiments are difficult or
impossible to perform
Ability to study systems under hazardous conditions at and beyond their
normal performance limits
Practically unlimited level of detail of results.
What is CFD?
CFD is the simulation of fluids engineering systems using modeling (mathematical

numerical parameters, and grid generations, etc.)
