Q. No.1: Describe Store Retail Formats.

Ans.: Retailing is the practise of selling goods and specific services to customers. It
typically involves a business established for that specific purpose selling single units
or small lots to numerous customers. The first time anything of value was bartered for
something else might be considered the beginning of retailing in the broadest sense.
When the first marketplaces were established and peddlers started peddling their
products, retailing officially began many thousand years ago as a specialised full-time
commercial occupation. Several retailers focus on products that are bought in bulk,
while others, most remarkably Walmart, built incredibly huge superstores that sell
slightly cheaper groceries in addition to a wide range of other items.
Types of Store Retail Formats:
There are different types of Store Retail Formats:

1. Convenience store: A convenience store is a small retail establishment that sells

things that are needed on a daily basis, such as food, toiletries, soft drinks, etc. These
convenience businesses could also provide more fundamental services including
photocopying, courier services, and phone booths. These shops typically operate near
a busy commercial area or a popular residential neighbourhood. They are referred to
as convenience stores since they provide convenience in addition to performing
another primary duty and are typically situated near petrol stations, shopping centres,
highways, etc. In many nations, 7-Eleven is a well-known example of a chain of
convenience stores. 7-Eleven has more than 70000 stores worldwide and is virtually
everywhere. Along with its own trademarks including Slurpee, it is also recognised
for operating around the clock.
2. Supermarkets: Supermarkets are self-serve establishments that offer a variety of
goods, including food. Typically, supermarkets contain four primary sections: meat,
dairy produce, self-service food, and domestic goods. Either the founders manage
them or they are leased out. Merchandise is typically exhibited in supermarkets in
large quantities and at low costs. They are generally situated close to residences to
make access easier. Whenever you encounter nationally recognised brands in a sizable
structure with easy parking, it is most likely a supermarket. Their "cash and carry
policy" is frequently rather stringent. However, given the prevalence of internet
banking, this might not always be the case. Some examples are Reliance Smart, V-
Mart, etc.
3. Departmental Stores: Department stores are huge retailers that provide a variety of
goods in many departments all under one roof. Each section specialises in particular
types of goods. Accounting, administration, and physical location are all handled
differently for each shop. As a result, a department store manages several business
divisions, works with a variety of goods, and is divided into departments for the
purposes of controlling accounting, promoting sales, and running the shop. Shopping
centres may also be used to describe department shops. For instance, Reliance Trends,
Shoppers Stop, etc.
4. Specialty store: A company that specialises in selling a single item or a small
selection of items is known as a speciality store. Specialty stores are frequently retail
establishments that concentrate on certain product categories. Small quantities of
goods are sold in retail establishments for immediate consumption rather than for
future resale. Although they focus on one particular area of items, specialty shops can
also sell a wide range of products. Small retail stores, large chain stores, or locally
owned businesses could all operate specialty stores. Furniture Stores, Coffee Shops,
etc. are the best examples of Specialty Stores.
