Agatha Christie was born in 1890 in Torquay, England to a privileged family and grew up with a sister and brother. She worked as a nurse during World War 1 and later in a hospital pharmacy, where she learned about poisons that she would use in her writing. Her first book, published in 1920, was an immediate success. She divorced in 1930 and remarried, traveling widely to Egypt, Syria, and Iraq where she continued writing. Agatha Christie became world renowned, publishing 78 crime novels, 150 short stories, and 19 plays before dying in 1976 at the age of 85.

Early life: grow up in a privileged family, older sister and younger brother Monty.

Job: nurse, work in a hospital / while husband was fighting during WWI
Career: Later, work in the hospital pharmacy, she learnt about all the poisons and medicines, she use in her
books. She said ‘poisons are my favourite means of murder’
1920, write first book – The Mysterious Affair of Styles – an immediate success

Later life: divorce and remarry 1930 with an archaeologist. Travel a lot – Egypt, Syria and Irak. Always take her
typewriter with her, never stop writing. Exotic titles such as ‘Death on the Nile’ – ‘Murder on the Orient
express’
Death: January 1976 – of old age
Agatha well-known worldwide, write 78 crime novels, publish 150 short stories and create 19 plays.
