PrePex Device for EIMC Post Placement Instructions iQ Version 10 May 2016 What to Expect after PrePex Placement? In the first few hours and days, the foreskin will become numb, dark and dry Or, the skin may become soft and yellow, this is caused by some urine remaining in the foreskin (see photo on slide 4) The skin and device will start detaching 2-5 days after device placement Full detachment of the device and foreskin takes 4-12 days, there is no need for active foreskin and device removal. While Wearing the PrePex Device * Inthe first few days, while the device is in place monitor your Infant behavior and circumcision progress * Pay special attention to the following: i. Any issues with voiding — Frequency, consistency and changes in color ii. Fever i. Any signs of infection — swelling, fever, pus discharge. While Wearing the PrePex Device Do not touch the device - not even through diaper or clothes Do not try to remove the device Do not pull off the necrotic skin or device even if it is almost completely detached Wash your child penis as usual Make sure your child is passing urine. Device Detachment Detachment range is expected from days 4 up to day 12. ‘One day after device Dey2 placement Devs: Day full detechment Healing Process Average time for complete healing: 13 days Daily Routine & Hygiene * There should not be any disruption to the daily routine - washing, passing urine, etc. * Your child should be able to urinate as usual while wearing the PrePex * Wash and dry your child penis carefully but - DO NOT try to retract the foreskin and clean the inside DO NOT try to remove the detaching foreskin and device. Wound Care * Due to the circumcision process the gradual detachment ensures there is no exposed wound or bleeding + Upon complete device detachment it is recommended to apply Vaseline around the circumcision site for a week + No need for dressing application as standard of care «IMPORTANT - While the circumcision site is healing DO NOT apply any traditional medicine on the wound such as — ash, animal dung, mud, herbs, butter, grease, Omo, honey etc. Applying such materials can lead to infection and compromise your child’s wound and health! Keep your child’s penis elevated at all times * In order to eliminate swelling along the ring, make sure to position your child’s penis facing upwards inside his dipper or pants. Pain Management In case of swelling or noticeable pain, you should come back to the circumcision clinic to consult with the staff on appropriate pain mitigation. Paracetamol syrup, or other acceptable analgesics, will be given and you will receive instructions on administration. If your child experience any of the following: * The plastic ring slips downwards to the shaft (base) of the penis * The child does not pass urine / changes to color or consistency of urine * Persistent bleeding * Excessive swelling * Detachment process has not initiated after 12 days * The child fails to settle * Discomfort passing urine if the foreskin is obstructing the tip of the penis + Any health problem that worries you ~ even if it has nothing to do with the circumcision (dizziness, fever, pain, pain in lower stomach area), Call this 24/7 EMERGENCY NUMBER: Or come back to the clinic immediately Questions?
