This module will help you understand and appreciate our folk music from
Cordillera Mindoro, Palawan and the Visayas to strengthen your cultural identity
as Filipino. You will be introduced to various musical instruments and expected
to have fun in knowing them as you go through the activities.

The module contains:

MUSIC TRIVIA: Don’t you know that our country is blessed with
a rich musical culture. Different ethnic groups have been using
music in performing rituals and different celebrations even
before the Spaniards came. Songs about life and death, lullabies,
courtship, marriage, rituals, and songs for their everyday work like farming,
fishing, hunting, or simple chores at home are usually accompanied by
instrument ensembles.

MUSICAL INSTRUMENTS OF THE CORDILLERA, MINDORO, PALAWAN, AND THE

VISAYAS

A. CORDILLERA – their instruments function and played during

ceremonies, rituals, and celebrations.
- musical instruments are classified into:
1. Metal Instruments (gongs) – one of the common instruments
is the Gangsa ensemble that consists five to six flat gongs played in
standing or bending position.
a. Gangsa Toppaya – gongs played by
striking with the palm while rested on the

Silos, Jr. was known as the “Father of Rondalla”.
