PRACTICE PAPER 03

Time Allowed: 2 hrs Max. Marks: 50

SECTION – A (1 mark)

1. Find the value of ‘p’ such that the line passing through the points (– 4, p) and (1, 3) is parallel.

2. Find the distance between the lines 3x + 4y = 9 and 6x + 8y = 15.

3. What is the eccentricity of hyperbola whose vertices and foci are (± 2, 0) and (± 3, 0) respectively ?

4. What is the length of the latus rectum of the ellipse 16x2 + y2 = 16 ?

5. Find the ratio in which the line segment joining the points (2, 4, –3) and (– 3, 5, 4) is divided by the
plane x + y + z = 8

6. Find the point on z-axis which is equidistant from (1, 5, 7) and (5, 1, – 4).

1 1 1
7. If E and F are events such that P(E) = , P(F) = and P(E and F) = , find P(E or F).
4 2 8

8. In three dimensional geometry, write the equation of x-axis.

9. A card is drawn from a well shuffled deck of 52 cards, then find the probability of red king card.

10. A bag contains 9 discs of which 4 are red, 3 are blue and 2 are yellow. The discs are similar in shape
and size. A disc is drawn at random from the bag. Calculate the probability that it will be not blue

SECTION – B (2 marks)

11. Line through the points (–2, 6) and (4, 8) is perpendicular to the line through the points (8, 12) and (x,
24), find the value of x.

12. Find the equation of the parabola that satisfies the given conditions Focus (0, 3); directrix y = –3.

13. Find the point on y-axis which is at a distance 10 from the point (1, 2, 3)

14. Show that if x2 + y2 = 1, then the point x, y, 1  x 2  y 2  is at a distance 1 unit from the origin.
15. A card is drawn from the pack of 52 cards. What is the probability that it is a king or queen ?

16. Find the probability of getting a total of more than 10 in a single throw of 2 dice.

number formed is divisible by 4.

SECTION – D (6 marks)

21. A line passing through the point A (5, 0) makes an angle of 30° with the positive direction of x-axis. It
is rotated at point A through an angle of 15° clockwise direction. Find the equation of the line in new
position.

22. Find the equation of the circle whose centre is on the line 2x – y = 3 and which passes through (3, –2)
and (–2, 0).
