Subject: Applying for the Stipendium Hungaricum Scholarship (University of Pécs)
Dear Administrative Committee,
To whom it may concern,
With this letter, I am expressing my profound interest in becoming a doctoral candidate at your
university. I am applying for the doctoral programme at the Education and Society Doctoral
School of Education. The idea of attempting to get a Ph.D. scholarship has been on my mind
since my M.Ed. graduation. Two weeks ago, the sending partner in Myanmar offered an official
announcement about the program. Then, I started browsing the website, reading the application
guideline thoroughly, choosing a priority, filling out the online application, and uploading the
documents. The Hungarian Higher Institutions' Education Management and Information
Systems are very impressive. I sent e-mails to professors and associate professors. They are
so kind-hearted that they reply to my e-mail. The supervisor's statement is received from the
University of Pécs, preliminarily supported by my prospective supervisor Dr. Bálint Ágnes.
Studying abroad for a doctoral degree at a European university with brilliant education quality
has always been my dream because of its offers. Among the universities in Hungary, the
University of Pécs, having a high reputation, makes an excellent aspiration for international
students. Besides, it offers programs taught in English that will facilitate international students in
getting content knowledge and international experiences. Moreover, I enjoy meeting people of
diverse cultures and inquiring about their respectable cultures because the experiences could
increase my appreciation for other cultures. In addition, studying in Hungary will make me a
more competitive individual and raise my self-confidence and independence. Hungary is a
diverse, multicultural nation with many fun experiences for international students. If I am a
scholarship holder, I can focus on my academic advancement, all my tuition fees and my
accommodation costs will be supported. For these reasons, I would like to study in Hungary.
My four-year learning experiences as an undergraduate pre-service teacher have prepared me
for my teaching profession; not only did I develop a proficient understanding of academic
subjects, but also a keen interest in educational sciences. Since 2012, I have worked as a
teacher in three government high schools. Then, I continued my studies for the M.Ed. in 2017
and graduated in 2019. After that, I continued working as a teacher for over one year. In 2021, I
became a teacher educator at Mandalay Education Degree College. I have devoted my time
and effort to education for almost my whole life. I am satisfied with my teaching experiences. I
am always eager to learn new things, make adjustments, and seek help. That is why I deserve
this scholarship in the field of educational psychology.
I want to pursue my professional development in educational psychology. My preliminary
research topic is "Factors affecting self-regulated learning." This study will have both theoretical
and practical significance. Therefore, this research may provide insight into self-regulated
learning issues within teacher education spheres.
While studying in a foreign country, I expect to encounter challenges such as overcoming the
language barrier, coping with cultural misunderstandings, getting used to currency differences,
and having health issues. We have to adjust and adapt ourselves. We could use some online
tools to facilitate us. Since we have to stay there to learn new skills and qualifications, we have
to know everything that will help us survive.
The scholarship will push me further toward my Ph.D. degree. Five years from now, I see myself
actively engaged in students' autonomous learning at the education degree college, doing
action research in my research areas, and utilizing my new knowledge, skills, and qualifications
more confidently and sincerely. I feel blessed that I am allowed to apply for a scholarship to help
fulfill my dream. Studying in Hungary will significantly benefit me and give me better insight. This
scholarship will help me achieve my plans and long-term goals.
Sincerely,
Hnin Nu Nu Hlaing
