IO MOCK PROCEDURE & SIGN UP
Re- read the IO task sheet, HERE. Then:
1. Decide which text you’d like to work with for your IO mock: this Hughes poem or this
Persepolis extract. Annotate the extract and determine a global issue you’d like to pursue
(with sufficient proof to support your discussion of this issue in the extract, of course).
2. Then, select a non-literary text that relates to the global issue featured in your extract (see
IO task sheet, linked above, for GIs suggested by the IB).
You can choose from the videos, PSAs, speeches, and art work we have looked at in
class, OR there is also the option to choose a photograph to link with either work, as you
have some background with visual analysis that can be applied to these works.
* Remember that you have to refer to the larger body of work for whatever text you choose!
* Also, if it’s a long text, you will need to select an extract of no more than 40 lines.
Some suitable photographic works include:
Gordon Parks Photography (links to Hughes)
Hoda Afshar Photography (links to Persepolis)
Ugur Gallenkus Photography (links to both Hughes and Persepolis)
3. Sign up for your extract and your non-literary text based on your class, below. Many
people will have the same extract, of course, but the NON-LITERARY texts CANNOT
overlap within OR across classes; first to sign up for it, gets it!
4. Complete the proposal for your IO mock (here) by Wednesday, April 22nd.

5. You will get feedback on your proposal, and then complete a plan for your work. You can
make a copy and use the sample approach to structure with guiding questions here
and/or the blank version here, if you’d like. However you plan, you MUST submit an
outline of 10 bullet points (an assignment will be created with a template for each of you
on google classroom) by Wednesday, April 29th.
6. MOCK IOC PRESENTATIONS: You will get final feedback on your outline, and this
work will all culminate in the presentation of your mock IOC. These will be done as
google meet one-on-one conversations live with your teacher. You may have only your
bullet-point outline when you present, to experience the IO circumstances. This will then
be assessed according to the IO criteria, posted on google classroom.
