UMALI, JEAN CLARISSE T.

BEED IV
NOTICE

What concept have you been emphasized in the task and infographics? Give at least
four.

1. Demonstrate many action research models and the methodology behind them.
2. Discusses the methods of conducting action research.
3. It emphasizes the elements of action research.
4. Understand what action research is and how to use it in a classroom setting.

Since the 3 models are all for action research, what are the common elements of the
three?

The common elements of the three models of action research is Nelson, O 2014
Model that starts with Observe followed by Reflect, Plan and Act.

ANALYZE

Choose the AR sample Abstract that you submitted in Episode 2.

 Analyze the components vis-à-vis only one model out of the three presented.
 If you choose to compare with Model B-Nelson, O. 2014, here are the
components.
Title and Author of the Action Research:

ENHANCING THE PERFORMANCE OF GRADE VI-C PUPILS OF BUYAGAN ELEMENTARY

SCHOOL THROUGH THE USE OF ARTS IN MATH (AIM)
by:LORNA V. WALLIT
Key Components Entry from your Sample AR
OBSERVE The Problem

In Buyagan Elementary School, Mathematics had been

noted as one of the most difficult subject since it consists of
a collection of facts and skills to be memorized or mastered
by a relatively heterogeneous group of pupils.
REFLECT Reflection

The researcher in her role as a Mathematics teacher

concerned herself on how to help the pupils perform better
in the field of Mathematics. This concern made the
researcher planned to find possible solutions that could assist
the Grade Six Section C pupils of Buyagan Elementary
School in enhancing their level of performance in
Mathematics.
PLAN Plan of Action
The action research aims to enhance the performance of
Grade VI-C Pupils in Mathematics in Buyagan Elementary
School through the use of Arts In Math (AIM). Specifically, the
action research sought to: 1) use Arts in Math (AIM) to
enhance the mastery level of Grade VI-C in Mathematics, 2)
improve comprehension skills of Grade 6 on Mathematics
concepts through the use of “Arts in Math (AIM)”, 3) use “Arts
In Math (AIM)” to stimulate, motivate and sustain pupils’
interest in Mathematics and 4) improve the teaching
strategy in Mathematics through AIM.
ACT Implementation

The study was conducted for two quarters from June-

October 2015(1st and 2nd Grading) with 46 pupils as the
target subjects. The study made use of the one -shot
experimental design to look into the effectiveness of “Arts In
Math (AIM)” in improving pupils’ performance in
Mathematics. The findings showed that the use of Arts In
Math (AIM) enhanced the performance of Grade VI-C
Pupils in Mathematics. For the first quarter, there was an
increase of 34.13 in the MPS and 29.79 for the second
quarter. Using the t-test of the difference between means of
correlated data, the t- test computed value of 23.71 for the
first quarter and 32.37 for the second quarter is more than
the critical value of 1.676 at 0.05 level of significance with 45
degrees of freedom.

What have you understood about the concept of Action Research and how will these
be utilized in your practice?

The action research is applied to enhance educational practice. To address the

problem and make a change and solution to it. It allowing us to grow personally and
professionally. Action research can identify the issues that require immediate action, I
may apply it in my practice teaching. I think action research has made a significant
contribution to my career as a teacher in the future, helping me to better myself as a
teacher and my pupils.

REFLECT

As a future teacher, is conducting Action Research worth doing? Why?

 As a future teacher, conducting Action Research is worth doing.

Why?

 Because it is used to address practical problems in classroom. As like I said above,

action research has made a significant contribution to my career as a teacher in
the future, helping me to better myself as a teacher and my pupils too. Because
of action research I became aware that there are many problems that
elementary pupils had.

How can AR be useful for every classroom teacher?

 The identification of problems that need to be solved is action research. Every

teacher in the classroom will profit from this since they will be aware of the issues
that need to be addressed in the classroom in order to benefit both the children
and the school.

WRITE ACTION RESEARCH PROMPTS

OBSERVE

Remembering my classroom observation in FS 1, I noticed that there are many

questions that I raised in my mind. These include:

a) How can students focus during discussion?

b) How can students motivate to take part in activities?
c) How can students learn to make a simple sentence with correct grammar and
spelling?

REFLECT

Think deeply about those problems, perhaps something must have been done to solve
the problem or answer the question, like:

PLAN

a) By making a unique ways of teaching using eye-catch instructional material or

visual aids.
b) By giving a condition like rewards to the students who joined.
c) By assisting them and teaching the correct spelling and grammar repeatedly
until they get it.

Now, that I am in FS 2, I plan to make a plan for my solution to problem (choose from a,
b, c) because they can continue to utilize it till they are old. Person can speak effectively
and humanely if they can construct a statement using good grammar and spelling.

ACT

My action will come later, given enough time in FS 2 or during my Teaching Internship.

PARTICIPATE AND ASSIST

What five problems have you identified from the words that you have encircled?
Make a statement. Write in the space below.

The problems I identified are:

1. New Normal
The pupils' studies made a major change that had an impact on students’
learning.
2. Comprehension
Low comprehension means didn’t understand what they read.
3. Behavior
Different behavior can affect the flow of the discussion.
4. Reading Difficulty
Many students are struggle with reading.
5. Focus
Students are getting bored easily so they don’t pay attention in the class.

MAKE A CHOICE FOR YOUR ACTION

A. Conduct tutorial lesson.

B. Show video lessons to help enhance comprehension.
C. Make a learning task to develop comprehension.

Suppose you chose the letter A. Conduct a Tutorial. So you have identified the SOLUTION
that matches the PROBLEM which is Difficulty in Comprehension.

The Problem is: The Action is:

Difficulty in Conduct a Tutorial

Comprehension of

Can you also choose letter B. Show video lesson as a SOLUTION for the same Problem?

Explain: Yes, show video lesson will help the students to enhance their reading
comprehension. Through videos with students will catch their attentions and know the
things they need to do when it comes in reading because it uses appropriate images
and accurate sounds how to read the words and understand it.

The Problem is: The Action is:

Difficulty in Comprehension Showavideo

Difficulty in Conduct Tutoriallesson
of Reading
Comprehension of
What about letter C as a SOLUTION to the same PROBLEM? Why?

 Yes, making learning tasks to improve comprehension is important too. through

different tasks, students will challenge their understanding in reading and to
improve it.

The Problem is: The Action is:

Difficulty in Comprehension Making learning tasks to

of Reading improve comprehension

NOTICE

What have you noticed of the problems identified above? Can there be more
than one solution to the problem? Explain.

 There are many solutions to that problem. Nowadays, students are good in using
computers, including laptops, smartphones, and other devices. There are
numerous tools available to assist pupils in enhancing their reading
comprehension. Some apps contain electronic dictionaries that will improve their
reading comprehension while others are entertaining logic puzzles.

ANALYZE

Let us try to look into the following scenarios in the daily life of teacher. This scenario might
also be similar to the class you have observed and noticed.

Scenario A: Miss Fely is grade four teacher in a typical elementary school. She has forty
learners I her class. One half of them cannot classify animals into vertebrates and
invertebrates. She has been repeating the same science lesson for two weeks, yet no
progress was observed. This situation has been bothering Miss Fely.

 Can you identify, Miss Fely’s problem?

 Miss Fely’s problem is the difficulty of some students classify animals into
vertebrates and invertebrates.
 Can you find a solution to solve her problem?
 Yes.
 Give your two suggestions
a. Show video lesson and presentation.
b. Give a learning task and activities that they can easily classify animals like
matching type.
 What solution can solve Miss Fely’s problem?
 I think the best and effective way Miss Fely should do is show video presentation
since grade 4 pupils pay attention when it comes in entertainment.
How?
 Miss Fely should find great videos about vertebrates and invertebrates. The visuals
used in the video should be suitable to their ages and interests, therefore, students
will pay attention to the lesson because it uses audio-visual materials.

Are they matched with the problem?

 Since Miss Fely’s problem is students’ difficulty of classify animals into vertebrates
and invertebrates. I think the solution that I propose is match with the problem
because it will use different way of teaching where the audio-visual materials are
present. It will be very helpful since the Grade 4 pupils preferred watching videos
to their smart phones, television and in YouTube. Through this solution I propose
they will focus and understand well the classifying of animals into vertebrates and
invertebrates.

Scenario B: Sir Ryan teaches in a disadvantaged urban community. Most of his learners
come from families that are disrupted, either with single parent or with their guardians
who stand only as parents. They are deprived of the necessary food, clothing and shelter.

 Can you identify the most probable teaching-learning problem/s in the class of
Sir Ryan?
a. In my opinion, the issue here, most of his learners come from families that
are disrupted. I think Sir Ryan’s students are lack of parental supports morally
and financially.
b. Also, the other issue here is deprived of necessary food, clothing and
shelter.
 Can you propose a solution to solve one of the problems that you have
identified?
 There are many solutions to solve even one of the problems that I have
identified. Sir Ryan can approach his students, motivate them and give
words of wisdom or a quotes that will inspire them and change for the
better. Sir Ryan can approach parents and talk to them through simple
conference or meeting and tackled the major problem that he noticed
most of his students. If a family enjoys good company at home, it will benefit
their child's academic performance.

REFLECT

After reading the two scenarios given above, how would identifying problematic
situations and finding solutions to these problems help you to become a better teacher?

 As a future teacher, I believe that being conscious on your surroundings or

environment is important, therefore, you can observe and identify critic
problems in the class. Finding a solution is like answering question
accurately. So as a teacher, think over a solution that will benefit your
students and help to be a better one.
WRITE ACTION RESEARCH PROMPTS

Using any one example of problems in this activity, answer the AR prompts that follow:

OBSERVE

What problematic situation prevails in the classroom?

 The problematic situation prevails in the classroom is the relationship,

connectivity, home, social status and active participation and paying of
attention, and lack of comprehension. I noticed most of students in Grade
2 are difficulty of reading.

REFLECT

What changes do you want to achieve?

 I want the pupils to feel a connection to their teacher. Because the teacher
is the second parent, I hope they learn to be genuine and develop a close
bond with them so that when a problem arises, the teacher can more easily
provide a solution. I want to tell pupils that don’t be shy asking help to the
teachers, they are go to the school to learn and not to impress. I will
encourage them to participate to activities that will develop their reading
comprehension.

PLAN

What strategies will you use to improve the situation?

 First, I will observe students who have difficulties in reading. Next, I will go to
have an interview or short conversation with students that I seems have
difficulty in studying especially in reading. After that, I will test them reading
a printout short story and ask some questions. Then, I will let listen and show
to them how the story read accurately through the audio-visual materials.
Finally, I will test them again to read the printout story and answer the
questions after.

ACT

What would be the title of your Action Research should you conduct the study?

“The Effectiveness of Audio-Visual Material in Reading Comprehension of Grade 2

Pupils”

Add: Solution/ actions

 I will propose it the principal of the school and do all my plans.

PARTICIPATE AND ASSIST

What will you do to assist your mentor in setting up a conducive learning environment in
the following conditions:

1. Bulletin Board Display

 I will assist my mentor by proving necessary needs. Additionally, I'll make
suggestions for things connected to the current theme, including pertinent
posters, sayings, and photos. If I see anything odd or incorrect being done
by my mentor, I will also comment on it.
2. Small Group Discussion
 I'll help my mentor prepare the topic and the materials for the discussion.
I'll engage the pupils and encourage them to express their thoughts on
the subject.
3. Checking class attendance in a virtual classroom (i.e. google meet or zoom).
 I'll approach my mentor for permission to be the one in charge of keeping
track of students' attendance in class. Additionally, I will assist my mentor
in setting up the computer and the presentation's flow while she discusses
it.

NOTICE

Learning Environment 1:

 What have you noticed of the display in the class bulletin board? What message
or theme does it convey?
o I have noticed that the display in the class bulletin board is full of activities
and very eye-catchy.
 What makes it attractive to the learners?
o I think is the combination of colors and the use of animated cartoons as
design that cope to their ages.
 Does it help in the learning process? How?
o Yes, because there are bulletin board in every subject, they see learning
materials that posted in the bulletin boards and also the activity they have
done is attached.

Learning Environment 2:

 If the teacher is using a distance delivery of learning through the modules, where
is most likely the learning space of the students?
o Literally, in their home since face-to-face classes were not allowed.
Parents are responsible to students’ learning.
 Can you describe?
o Although learning from home may seem comfortable, the environment
must be conducive, much like the school setting. Students should
complete their modules in a calm setting with no outside distractions so
they can concentrate on them.
 How can you a teacher help to make such environment conducive for learning?
o As a teacher, I merely make a visit to each of my pupils at home to ensure
that they are in a conducive setting. I'll inquire of them what they demand
in order to concentrate, comprehend, and complete the modules.

ANALYZE

The example above, describe two contrasting situations. The first shows the learners are
in the same room or space while in the second, the learners maybe in different learning
spaces like homes, study hubs or in extreme cases parks or under the trees.

As a teacher, in which of the two situation would you prefer to manage for learning?
Choose between Learning Environment 1 or Learning Environment 2?

Explain your choice: Why?

 I will choose the Learning Environment 1, which the learning environment is in the
school or what we called face-to-face class. I believe that school is conducive
environment where the students need it to learn well and focus on their studies. Unlike
in modular learning that they can’t understand well because they can’t focus
because of the environment they have which is their home.

REFLECT

Based on my noticing and analysis, I realized that

a. Conducive environment is important to students’ learning.

b. Student make a huge adjustment from face-to-face class to modular learning.
c. Student with modular learning can’t understand well the lesson unlike when they
are in the school with their teacher.

WRITE ACTION RESEARCH PROMPTS

OBSERVE

What probable problem may result from the two situations of the learning environment?

 In Face-to-face class:
o Allowance
o Peer pressure
o Lack of learning resources
 In On-line/Modular class
o Lack of internet connection
o Attendance of the students
o Various learning style
o Power interruption

REFLECT

What solution can I think of to solve the problem?

 First, I think to solve the problem as a teacher, I should communicate with my students
to monitor them if they have difficulties in learning. Second, as a teacher, I must be
prepared, I should have various of plan to meet all my learners. Third, as a teacher, I
will build a strong connection and relation to the parents, sharing thoughts and ideas
for the children’s welfare, therefore, I know how can I help my students even they
have different personalities and interests.

PLAN

How should I do it?

 Just like I said, I should be flexible one. As a teacher, I believe that the best way to
address the issue is to monitor my pupils' progress by keeping in touch with them. In
order to satisfy the needs of all of my students, I must be well-prepared as a teacher.
I will establish a close relationship with the parents and share thoughts and ideas for
the welfare of the kids, I will be able to aid my students even if they have diverse
personalities and interests.
In not less than 300 words, write an essay on the topic: “My Conducive Lerning
Environment”

“My Conducive Learning Environment”

By: Jean Clarisse T. Umali

They frequently state that teachers serve as the second parents for students,
guiding, helping, and teaching them to become better people. Children do attend
school to learn, study, and make friends, and this is true. Have you ever wondered
why pupils focus more on studying in school than they do at home? Students just pay
more attention to what they are studying at school because they need a conducive
environment, and school provides one. Because the teacher is not present to assist,
help and support students in completing their modules, many students in the
pandemic of modular and online learning lose all interest in, lack motivation, and get
anxious about learning because they do not comprehend it properly. Therefore,
students do not sure if they doing right or not.

Then, what indications were available that the environment was conducive
for learning? First, a positive environment for learning should be flexible, with space
for small groups and moveable walls. Provide a large learning area with both indoor
and outdoor activities for the students.

Second, having an open environment entails having study corners or

spaces with several things put on the wall that could catch students' eyes. The
pleasant and vibrant environment make students feel comfortable being around,
which encourages engagement and the development of creative ideas.

Third, it should have access to resources like open-ended audiovisual

content. It's crucial to have simple access to an internet connection. Additionally,
schools and teachers should prepare a variety of teaching aids and resources for the
education of kids.

The fourth component of a conducive learning environment is a physical

classroom that is safe and clean. One illustration is a room with good ventilation. The
structure is in good condition, has plants all around, encourages personal hygiene,
and offers alcohol at the room's doorway to promote good hygiene and virus
prevention.

The last component of conducive learning environment is having a good

psychological atmosphere where the teachers and students are friendly and very
accommodating. It practices everyone’s politeness and hospitality and that are
characteristics that we have individually.

Given the concepts and infographic, how can you participate and assist in a
face-to-face learning environment?

 As a future teacher, I can participate and assist in a face-to-face learning

environment by giving students a conducive learning environment. I will
encourage students to participate and cooperate to all activities, let them share
their insights and understanding. I will guide them to what things they have difficult
to deal in every subject.

ANALYZE

What do you think brought the changes in the face-to-face learning environment now?

 I think that the use of technology in the classroom, which creates productive
learning environments, is causing changes in the face-to-face learning
environment. Because of the downloadable arts that are readily available online,
the walls' creativity has enhanced their beauty and attraction.

From the changes that you identified, choose one that you can do. How will you do it?

 I believe the only thing I can do at this time is set up a conducive classroom. I will
upgrade or replace those elements that can improve the learning of the students,
and I will only include the necessary elements that I know would benefit the
learners.
REFLECT

Do you think making learning environment conducive for a face-to-face

classroom will enable the learners to achieve better learning outcomes? Yes. Explain your
answer.

 For me, a conducive classroom would significantly affect students' learning and
personalities. They can concentrate on their lecture because they act similarly at
school, particularly during activity time.

WRITE ACTION RESEARCH PROMPTS

OBSERVE

What common problem have I noticed in a face-to-face learning environment?

 When students are not interested in the lesson, they easily get bored and begin to
chat with their seatmates instead of paying attention in class.

Can I translate this problem into a question?

 What can we do to help students focus in the lesson?

REFLECT

How would I solve the problem?

 Since students in primary levels always want fun, I will use audio-visual materials
that suitable to their ages and will catch their attention to listen.

Will it improve my teaching? Yes. How?

 Because if I saw my students are amaze and active in my class, this is the best
opportunity to discuss my lesson well because there is no noise that will distract the
whole class.

PLAN

What will I do to solve the problem? Describe briefly how you will do it.

 To solve the problem, I will find more creative displays that I will show to the
students through audio-visual materials. I also find unique motivations for students
to become active in learning.
PORTFOLIO ENTRY

Title: The Face-to-Face Learning Environment

Describe the physical environment:

 Many educational images, including the flag's insignia and emblems, are put on
the walls inside the classroom. There are also interesting bulletin board designs. The
seats for the students are desks that may accommodate two students. It is
followed by the teacher 's table. All of the students can definitely see the big
screen TV that is located in the front. Additionally, their classroom is well-ventilated.

Describe the psychological environment:

 The psychological environment refers on being accommodating of the teachers

to their students. When discussing time, teacher never forget to ask each student
if they understand the topic. They also say the attitudes have the students in a nice
words and not offended. They teach good values and let the students to share
ideas and opinions.

Describe the social environment:

 Teachers and students seem very hospitable and polite to everyone. Students are
very interactive and friendly at the same time. They have a peaceful environment
with clean and discipline surroundings.

NOTICE

Unlike the traditional face-to-face classroom environment, online or virtual

environment is a bit difficult to manage. It is because Virtual Learning Environment (VLE)
is imaginary and not in the physical sense. It has no corners or walls and it can be set up
with the support of technology.

As a teacher, what have you discovered to be easy to implemented in your virtual class?

 I discovered that virtual class is so hard to manage because not all students have
stable connection, plus often power interruption. The easy I have implemented
rules to the students is the attending of virtual class even not so long. I recorded
the class then monitor who joined.

How did the students show their active participation in the lesson?

 Students show their active participation in the lesson if they are always present to
the meeting and on time. Use raise hand emoji to interact with the teacher or
asking and answer the question. Student/s direct message the teacher whenever
there’s a clarification.

ANALYZE

Which of the following is/are your analysis/analyses of on-line learning environment?

Check one or more.

_✓_ It was difficult to observe the physical behavior of the students.

_✓_ It takes time for students to learn how to use the platform.

_✓_ Students who are alone in their home space find difficulty to make responses.

_✓_ Internet connectivity is a great factor to support a conducive environment.

REFLECT

As a future teacher I feel that the on-line learning environment can be safe if

 The teacher knows how to use gadgets and applications and if the students are
using it appropriately, responsively, and ethically.

I think that teaching in a virtual environment is

 Challenging, just like what I said above that in virtual environment students in your
class must have strong internet and stable connection to avoid lagging that
affects student’s learning and understanding.
WRITE ACTION RESEARCH PROMPTS

OBSERVE

Identify the problems brought about by the on-line learning environment.

 Slow of internet connection

 Computer illiterate

REFLECT

How would you solve this problem?

 Student must try if they are computer illiterate to practice it and be familiar with
technology. They can ask help to the elders or peers to assist them in virtual
learning. Students should have a plan A and plan B if they know that there is a
slow internet connection in their area, they can sit in with their classmate with
strong connection of internet.

PLAN

What initial plan do you intend to do to solve the problem?

 My initial plan I intend to do first, all concerns must tell to the principal or other
government related. Second find learning system except virtual learning for the
students who have lack of internet connection and computer illiterate, School
and teachers can implement flexible learning, therefore, students will learn
equally.
