A: Inquiring and analysing

Steven explains and justifies the need for a solution to a problem and constructs a research plan,
which states and prioritizes the primary and secondary research needed to develop a solution to the 8 8
problem independently. Steven analyses a group of similar products that inspire a solution to the
problem and develops a design brief, which presents the analysis of relevant research.

B: Developing ideas
Steven develops a design specification which outlines the success criteria for the design of a
solution based on the data collected, presents a range of feasible design ideas, using an appropriate
medium(s) and annotation, which can be correctly interpreted by others, presents the chosen design 8 8
and outlines the reasons for its selection with reference to the design specification and develops
accurate planning drawings/diagrams and outlines requirements for the creation of the chosen
solution.

C: Creating the solution

Steven constructs a logical plan, which outlines the efficient use of time and resources, sufficient for
peers to be able to follow to create the solution, and demonstrates excellent technical skills when 7 8
making the solution, follows the plan to create the solution, which functions as intended and is
presented appropriately and explains changes made to the chosen design and plan when making
the solution.

D: Evaluating
Steven describes detailed and relevant testing methods, which generate accurate data, to measure
the success of the solution, explains the success of the solution against the design specification 8 8
based on authentic product testing, describes how the solution could be improved and describes
the impact of the solution on the client/target audience.

Assessment Explanation
MYP Assessment

Assessment in the MYP aims to:

• support and encourage student learning with teachers facilitating year round assessments and providing
regular feedback on the learning process

• inform, enhance and improve the teaching process with teachers regularly reflecting on teaching and learning

• provide opportunity for students to exhibit transfer of skills across disciplines, such as in the personal project,
interdisciplinary unit assessments and other projects and exhibitions

• promote positive student attitudes towards learning and develop good study habits inside and outside the school

• promote a deep understanding of subject content by supporting students in their inquiries set in real world contexts;
local, regional and global

• promote the development of communication, collaboration, organisation, affective, reflection, information literacy,
media literacy, and critical thinking skills

• support the holistic nature of the programme by including in its model principles that take account of the
development of the whole student, encouraging and supporting students to be inquiring, knowledgeable, caring,
balanced, principled, reflective risk-takers, communicators and thinkers

In Terms 1, 2 and 3, academic progress is reported through publishing students assessment scores. Each subject is
assessed through 4 criteria (a minimum of 2 times per year): A, B, C and D. The maximum score for a criterion is 8.
Students are expected to get at least a score of 3.

The End of Year Report is published at the end of Term 4. This report contains a Final Subject Grade for each MYP
subject. This grade is determined by teachers who carefully consider the academic progress data through terms 1, 2,
3 and 4. The final subject grades are not an average of the progress scores. The maximum grade for a subject is 7.
The passing grade for all subjects is 3.
